Post scores from online play to the leaderboards
The other day I was playing Bloodmeat in online play, and managed to rack up a score that was actually higher than the one I submitted to the leaderboard from playing offline (FC'd it - did not use any catch up taps). Afterwards, I thought damn, I wish I could submit this score right now. I was wondering, if you had a way to see whether a player did not use any catch up taps - if they could be able to post their score to the leaderboard for that song? Or maybe only if they have auto register scores on... something along those lines.

Inappropriate?i like this idea but going through all the all the trouble to find out which players used a special tap or not is a lot of work.
1 person thinks
this is one of the best points

Yeah, it would be nice, but there really is no sensible way right now to tell whether a run used catchups, and besides, think of all the score submissions--that's a lot of pinging/accessing the server by that amount of people (could hurt performance/flood the service perhaps). -
Inappropriate?well i don't want to get too technical (i write code for a living :-p) but if every player is treated as an "object" that has attributes (i.e. "score", "rank", etc.) they could just add another attribute called ("used_catchup") and set it to true when they tapped a catchup tap.
so in the end of the game... if player.used_catchup = false then let me upload my score!
each player has to ping the server every what 15-20 seconds or so during the game to get the scores of all the other players in the room, and also send their own score, so i don't think sending just the score at the end would kill the server. even at the end of the game, sending a submission would be done by the people who didn't use a catchup tap, which i'm assuming to be on avg like 8 people per game... not a whole lot extra.
buuuut anyways i was just hoping the tapulous guys would see it and be like hmmm maybe we could do that. i'm not familiar with their code design so i don't know if it would be quite as easy to implement as what i suggested.
if it isn't too costly for them to do, i think it would be a helpful feature. i think i'd actually play online a lot more often, since i consider leaderboard scores more important than online ranking (at the moment). -
I do think that your idea is good. But the issue with it is that there is the chance that people could have recieved catch up taps but their score would still have been high enough to make it to the leaderboard without the catch up taps. I think its easier and simpler to do it the way that I mentioned below. -
very good point pyro i hadn't thought of that -
Inappropriate?I REALLY like this idea. Cuz last night i just got what would have been a 4th place on Bite to Break Skin online.
This could be implemented by creating an on/off setting in the game for catch up taps online. That way people who don't need the catch up taps can play without them and if they get a new highscore then they can submit it to single player scores. And the scores would also ideally appear in the song selection screen in single player. -
cool, i like this idea too -
I agree also. It would solve 2 problems. The one about good players getting catch up tapps and great scores online that can't be submitted. -
Good solution! Personally I think the catch-up taps are just dumb but I guess this is a family oriented show & I suppose some people find them more fun. -
The main issue I have with catchup taps is that it forgives you for messing up in the beginning, but if you mess up towards the end of a song, you're out of luck. I remember coming in first once when I screwed up in the beginning of a song. The guy who was in first the whole time might have made a mistake towards the end, but he might have still been in the lead, and thus he gets no catchup tap to get his streak back. But since I missed a couple taps in the beginning, I was able to get a catchup tap, and i subsequently finished the rest of the song with no mistakes. Basically what i'm saying is that i may have made more mistakes than the guy in 1st, but I had my multipliers longer because I made my mistakes in the beginning rather than the end of the song.
With no catchup taps, I probably would have came in 2nd or 3rd, or possibly 1st with a much closer score.
Maybe that's a good time to get a +0 at the end of the song ;-) -
Yea, i think Ed said that they were going to fix that and not have catch-ups in the beginning of the song. But they apparently didn't get around to it for this update. -
Inappropriate?I would like this idea :D
I would have came top 10 somewhat for Bloodmeat .. but i was playing it online :D -
Inappropriate?I've got quite a few high scores in online play and playing battles. I really think that not only should Tapulous make it so that battle and online play high scores will register, but that auto-register would actually be auto-registering without having to enter the leaderboard. I end up accidently not registering my score probably one out of every fifteen games or so.

Inappropriate? This idea is pretty great since u usually play better online caz u want to beat people
