Tap tap misses multi touch notes?
I have reported this on the app store as well but I thought I'd post it here for good measure. Anyway, on an iPhone 3g s under 3.0 whenever I tap 2 'hold down' notes at once it always registers as a miss even when I hit them perfectly... This problem only happens if there are one or more 'hold down' notes that you have to tap, it does not happen with two normal notes for instance. This glitch does not seem to happen on my iPod touch though, just my iPhone.

Inappropriate?Hi Harry - Thanks for the note. We're working on this one... What type of iPod and iPhone do you have?
Also -- did you only notice this in OS 3.0? -
iPhone is a 3gs and the iPod is a touch 2g. This has only been happening on os 3.0 for me -
Inappropriate?Tap Tap Revenge 2 on a 3GS doesn ́t run fine.
Wer have to wait for an Tap Tap Revenge Update or iPhone OS3.1
I hope there will be a solution soon.
I’m frustrated
-
I find o have to hit harder to actualy hit them on my 3gs :( but if u hit harder it registers :) -
Inappropriate?My iPod is a 2nd gen and the iPhone is a 3gs, both on 3.0 I've also tried it on my 1st gen iPod touch and it works fine, even my dads iPhone 3g works fine, it's just the 3gs

Inappropriate?Hi. I've been reading the missed tap and lag issues over the past few weeks. As an Iphone developer myself, I've been on OS3.1 since the beta was released wth a 3GS. While I have seen some very small improvements in the lag and stuttering issues, they are still bad. The missed taps have not improved much either. I've tested all of the proposed temporary solutions posted here, but nothing seems to be a consistent fix either way. The only real fix I have been able to reproduce is either a complete reinstall of the application and songs or in some cases, deleting the individual song and downloading again. Eventually, the issues return. One small obersvation is that things seem to get worse the longer you play in one session and worse yet on most of the DMB theme songs. Letting the iphone sit for a few hours and then coming back to it (without a restart) shows a short term improvement. This could be due to some level of heat related performance impacts. Thx.. I look forward to a solution. Let me know if I can provide any more detailed information. Thx. L.

Hey Robert, I keep toying with the idea of deleting and reinstalling to see if it would help, but I hate to lose all my high score data, so I haven't yet taken that step. When you have done the reinstall, how long did the improvement last?
Thanks. -
Reinstalling made no difference for me. I saw the same behavior with older versions of TTR on a 3GS too. I didn't even attempt to install an older version of the OS & doubt it would go anyway.
I do agree with the "gets worse with time" comment. This has been the case which each version of TTR I've tried. This is one reason I suspect a memory management issue, maybe fragmentation or something like that. I'm not familiar enough with Apple OS to really make an educated guess, just wild ones.
I do think there is a relationship to battery charge - the closer to full, the less frequently the double taps are dropped. On the other hand, the shakes seem to work best on a slightly depleted or nearly fully depleted battery. I can't make any sense out of that one, but I think it may be true. I've been wondering if current supply is an issue since TTR probably hits the devices with pretty high power demands due to pretty much all hardware (except the compass & maybe GPS/location services?) being active at the same time. Just thinking out loud though. Running off USB power doesn't eliminate the issue, but does hold the battery charge high, probably at the expense of some supply noise though.
Another thought that came to mind is the new display coating, but I think that's less likely. I do occassionally notice trouble with the device recognizing touches outside of TTR.
I think one of the best clues is that all these issues occur less frequently if you restart TTR each time you play. Unfortunately even this does not eliminate the problems.
I'm used to debugging these issues with lots of expensive gear & instrumentation, but I don't think the guys at Tapulous have as many options. Not fun!
PS. Another developer claimed 3.1 made a big difference in performance. Your report makes me totally skeptical this is an OS issue. I do think OS changes messed up the arrows, but I think the other issues are old & just being better exposed with the new device. -
I've noticed the "gets worse over time" problem as well, which is why reinstalling seemed like a reasonable approach to get the game to play better (at least temporarily). That it didn't work for you, bufulo, seems confusing. I wonder why installing the game the first time would result in good initial game play but not subsequent installs. I'm not doubting your experience or anything like that, but it seems illogical. Now I can't decide if I should actually try it or not. lol.
Anyway, for me the level of the battery's charge doesn't seem to make a difference. Likewise, having the charger on or not while playing has no noticeable effect. I've seen comments from other people saying for them that these items make a difference, but if there is a difference for me, it's so minute that I can't tell. -
The behavior is definitely illogical, even bizarre sometimes. I'm an embedded systems firmware engineer, so I know enough to be dangerous but I'm not very familiar with this particular platform.
I don't think there is one "bug" responsible for all this behavior - probably MANY & probably both Tapulous & Apple. If the developers focus on why restarting each game generally reduces the issues so much, they'll probably find a major culprit.
I doubt a new version of TTR will come out before OS 3.1. I suspect there are issues with the software that force Tapulous to tweak each version to a specific version of the OS - not good.
PS. I definitely see improved tap recognition with a full charge. I get far more green taps & fewer missed doubles when the battery is topped off. I haven't played enough plugged in because the cord bugs me. -
Inappropriate?Hmm I've tried reinstalling the app on my iPhone and on iTunes as well for good measure, both made no difference... I have also tried restarting and even restoring my iPhone on my computer to see if it was some memory problem that the device could not cope with two hold notes at once, I don't know, it didn't work anyway... I wouldn't be so frustrated with the problem if it didn't happen all the time, it's not just one of those occassional hiccups, it happens EVERY time I try to tap 2 hold notes at once. I've never had lag or stuttering, come to think of it, I've never had any problems ever with tap tap up till now. I really hope tapulous is working on a fix as this problem only seems to effect iPhone 3gs' in my tests and I can't replicate in on an iPhone 3g, a touch or 2nd gen touch...
-
Inappropriate?When are they gonna do a fix for this problem, it seems similar bugs have been going for a while and this new one has completely ruined the game, I just wish they'd do something about it! TTR is one of my favourite games and I can't stand these annoying tap misses! What's the point in playing it if your always gonna get a crummy score, you can't challenge anyone and you can't beat anyones challenges! I really want to use these features but it just isn't worth it... I'm sure tapulous is working on a fix right now, but it seems that this bug is quite unique so it is not on the top of their list to fix it, and that's fair, but if they have tested it on the new iPhone 3G S they would realise how buggy it is and that it despurately needs a fix!
I’m frustrated
-
well, they're working on TTR3 which will hopefully address these issues. Its due to come out sometime soon. -
Inappropriate?Really!? TTR 3! that's much more like it!
-
Rest assured -- we're working on it :) -
Inappropriate?I'm sorry, I just got a little frustrated! It takes as long as it takes =]

Inappropriate?This is by no way a permanent fix but I figured I would post it just to get it out there. I noticed that my phone was acting up a week or two after I had gotten it and just like many others it seems, i got real fed up. However through playing tap tap over and over I discovered that if you treat the two hold taps as two separate individual taps.....even though they are supposed to be tapped at the same time you can circumvent the problem. It has to be done real quick but it will register both notes and you can continue with streaks. Just tap one side first followed by the second tap and the streak continues. Like I said not a permanent fix but it has helped me retain my high score and its even kind of a secret fix that I only know about so that none of my friends can beat my high scores =]. Hope this helps until Tap Tap can come up with a permanent solution.
-
Inappropriate?Haha that's what I do when I play with one hand!
-
Inappropriate?Hi everyone, I've just started playing tap tap again after downloading the Jet themed tracks, and the bug's gone! I can hit 2 hold notes at once without missing them =D I want to know if anyone else gets this, I suggest everyone should download all the new songs, there might have been a hidden fix =D otherwise, keep playing. There is hope that it might fix itself!
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?I've had the same issue for a while now and unfortunately Tap Tap 3 still has the problem. Has anyone come up with a solution yet?
I’m frustrated
-
I've seen it happen with TTR 3 as well, but only online so far. The "doubles" or overlapping touch areas issue still exists as well & I've seen that with offline play. TTR3 really seems to be mostly a new UI, which is mostly better except for the gumballs (tappers) & tom-tom drums (targets). -
Inappropriate?I've found that in ttr3 the problem goes away as long as you're over about half battery (easier to tell on a 3gs due to the percentage meter next to the battery icon) but even when I'm on red, the problem sometimes doesn't show so it really is quite random. Although, I would suggest a restart and a full charge to all those still suffering from this crushing bug...
-
Yes having same problem :( -
Inappropriate?I just downloaded TTR3, and I cannot for the life of me hit 2 hold down taps. I have a 3GS as well, fully updated.
-
really? wow thats too bad... I can do all 2 touches, and about 80% of the 3 touches, soemtimes they drop though :( -
I found this problem goes away (mostly) when plugged into power. The processor doesn't like us very much in low-power mode..
We're working on a way to fix this without draining your battery within 2 minutes.... -
Inappropriate?I find that taps for me (jailbroken ipod 2g) drop during holds. So if there are 2 holds, and a tap, that tap drop...
O-----o==============
O---------------o------------
O-----o==============
^ the middle would drop in this case.
:(
I’m sad
-
Hey Mattster -- what song is this on (so I can test) plz? -
It seems to happen on any song. It happens more frequently online... I worry as I play, especially while holding down notes, because I just know it's going to happen again :P
I'll see if I can find a better example of when it occurs. -
Thanks.. I'm going through looking for this...
O-----o==============
O---------------o------------
O-----o============== -
The language of Tap Tap: Capital O's, tiny o's, dashes, and equal signs. If only I could be learning this instead of Spanish.... it'd be a lot more interested..... *sigh*.... lol....
Xanadeath -
ha ha ha, I know what you mean xan xD
Yes I have had this problem as well, except mine usually look like this:
O-----o-o-o-o -- o
O-----o=============
O---------o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o
Or something like that... (where you are holding middle and tapping on right and left, right usually drops for me) -
Ed, It's not always that, it could also be:
O-----o=====-----
O-----o=====-----
O-------------o-----
Usually if there are 2 tap'n'holds and a note, it drops. Not always, but it's the 90% cause for me. -
Inappropriate?I've been experiencing missed taps since TTR2 (never really got into 1). When playing songs, I seem to miss notes randomly. I'm not sure if it's related to holds or not. Specifically, on TTR3, near the middle of "Tainted Wheat" by RX Bandits, I seem to be missing a lot. I'm playing that song more than others though, trying to get 100%. I'm positive that I'm hitting the notes, but they just don't register.
If it's a processor issue, maybe get rid of some of the pretty effects? I'd rather have a stable, functional game than a flashy, unreliable one.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I've just downloaded the coldplay tracks for ttr3 and they've brought the bug with them =[ I was so annoyed I wished I hadn't got them! I thought ttr3 was meant to fix this bug, thats what i thought tapulous was doing when it got held back. All my songs are effected by the bug and the only way you can get rid of it is deleteing the app and reinstalling it, which would remove all of my progress, I'm guessing, so I really don't want to do that...
You can forget about this 'make sure your battery is charged' nonsense, that's only preventing the bug (it's not complete nonsense as it does work). Once you've got the bug, it's staying until it wants to leave (i.e. at random occasions for no reason) or you have to suffer deleting all your progress, only to get the bug again later on.
Also, I can't see how 'low power mode' would effect the game so much if youre on a 3GS, since you have twice as much processing power than a normal iPhone, the bug shouldn't effect you at all. Yet, here it is. Bad as ever...
Finally, 'm suprised it's taking so long to find a fix for this bug, over three months! As it literally ruins the game. It's like not having a mouse for your computer, you could never use it!
On a lighter note, before I got the bug I did manage to get to no. 1 in the world on fallout boy 'sugar were going down' on extreme =D if only for a few hours! I took screenshots =P -
Inappropriate?Any fix yet?
I also got this problem on my 3G S OS 3.1.2
Same with my brothers(3G S & OS 3.0+)
...and all of my friends with iPhone 3G S at school
I’m sad, annoyed, & frustrated at times
-
Inappropriate?I've had this problem with my 3GS both on TTR2 and TTR3. It's really frustrating, I find that if there are two holds coming up like this (or any other combination of two or three holds):
O-----o=====-----
O-----o=====-----
O--------------------
... and if I tap and hold both it claims I missed both. However, if I simply tap them and don't hold it works 100% of the time. At least it doesn't break my streak, but it's frustrating because I'm missing out on all the points I could be getting by holding these notes...
I’m frustrated
-
Try doing a Backup & Restore (from that Backup) in iTunes. -
Already tried this multiple times, no luck. I've also tried removing the app and re-installing it, no luck there either. -
Is it the same song, all songs, & how often does it happen? If it happens every time on a song, post a video! -
It happens about 95% of the time on any song that I play, I'll try to post a video later today -
Inappropriate?Can't delete posts here now?
-
You have 15 minutes after you post to edit or delete it... -
Yeah, I know. Apparently it's just not working right now. -
Inappropriate?This developed on my Iphone 3gs, i have the same issue with the holding down two notes, but If i hold a tap with a trail, it counts it as missed.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I had this problem too and reported (different string). It became most prevalent after the last firmware update and super frustrating. I have OS 3G S 3.1.2. The weird thing is the app reset me for no reason this past Sat. I'll save the details around that for a new report, but I can at least hit the simultaneously tappers, even trailed ones, with no problem. Not sure how that seemed to magically fix itself. I did not do anything to my phone.
You may already be doing this, but if you are still having the prob you can get past them without entire misses and salvage some of streak and some of the points if you offset the taps. Easier said than done, but it helped me a bit. -
Inappropriate?Same here! There's also this same issue on Tap Tap Dance! And even worse! Tap Tap Dance sometimes could not understand: (one tap on both lines)
O-----o-------------
O-----o-------------
O--------------------
(Thanks [TTWP]Mattster for the template)
I just send an email to Tapulous. Hope this issue will finally end.

It seems like there is no sure way of getting rid of this bug, but, it will go on it's own. Give it time and it will go eventually, you don't have to reinstall or reset at all, just sit it out!
I've had this bug 7 or 8 times now and it always dissapears after a day or two and a full recharge. Hope this helps =] -
This comment was removed on 11/28/09.
see the change log -
Yup, mines a 3gs too =] the 3gs has always had problems with tap tap =[ hopefully tapulous will find out why! Also, you could try soft resetting it, that always helps in some manner, just hold the home and power buttons together untill the screen turns off and don't let go untill you see the apple symbol =] -
Inappropriate?Thank you!
I did not reinstall or reset. fortunately!
OK! i'll try ur solution. However, my iPhone 3GS is now connected to my MBP, and it is fully charged. And there's the bug?
I'll try to report back to you how is your solution within a week.
I’m thankful
