This game is 'wrong' :-)
Playing the 'wrong' contest...
I'm not getting enough visual feedback for when I'm correctly hitting a tapper. I'm wondering if the tunnel of light getting stronger is feedback for correct taps? Beyond that, the game is wrong in it's beats. Maybe it's the hardware, or my wetware, but why isn't there a way to calibrate the beats? If I am .25 seconds off on all the beats, shouldn't the program recognize this and calibrate? Or why isn't there a calibration screen of beats that I am tapping to and the program calibrates so that it knows what my taps are.
Want proof?
After spending hours trying to get my high score higher (I was tapping every *#$% beat), I read some of the message boards and one suggestion was to try to tap without the beat. So I tried tapping without listening to the music... and whadyaknow... instant high score. You know the game is broken when you are supposed to be listening to the music to tap to rhythm, and you stop listening and get a better high score. I find I have to tap later than the beat I am hearing. I am listening on headphones.
At the least, have the tappers change color or something for when they are supposed to be pressed. The splashes don't do that much because you don't know if the splash you see is the biggest splash available.

Inappropriate? When I tap the tap and holds at the beginning I find they last no where near as long as they should, I also find that ignoring the tune for this song helps. Was part of the 'irony' that the tap sheet doesn't match the song?
I was 54th last time I checked, hope I haven't gone down (up) because I can't be bothered to do it again.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?I've only found one instance in one song in the entire Extreme catalog where there are spheres that don't follow the music, and that would be Bite To Break Skin. But let me get your feature request straight: You want the game to recognize your taps as perfect all the time? I'm not sure what you exactly mean by "calibrating."
The only calibrating I know of is changing my play to do well in a song, not having the game accommodate to my lack of timing. -
DX I'm a professional musician. There are inaccurate or purposely misplaced tappers. I actually think they are fun, and make this less predictable, and present a further challenge, which some of the easier songs can use. -
I suppose it depends on whether or not your an 'artist' or a 'scientist', I would prefer it if each note was in the exact right place especially with the complicated and rapid tapping bits. Perhaps one or two 'cheeky' out of sync notes during the easy/slower sections of a song would 'personalise' them a bit but when playing 155, or however many there are now, different songs it would be hard to memorise 'inaccurate tappers'. -
It might help if you guys gave an example.
Actually, I kinda wonder if we should start a new thread... like a "is this inaccurate?" thread...
The only thing that bugs me so far is The Sound of Settling... I get the feeling there was like a beat deleted out of the one section and then added back in later, because the taps don't go where they logically should go. -
I notice just be before and after the quieter bit in Wrong, after the first verse, some of the taps are very slightly out of sync with the music, also after the second verse in the chorusy bit when it becomes a bit more intense.
There is always going to be some slight deviation, perhaps it's because I played the song (too) many times in a row, I was so used the tune and tappers that my brain could pick up on where it might not be 100% in-line.
The human brain is a remarkable thing, whilst most people cannot consciously tap (see what I did) into it's full potential with training people can use it to identify the exact frequency of a note or notice minuscule changes in things. I'm pretty sure that with many OCDish people you could remove less than mm from the bottom of a chair they often sit on and they would 'feel' like something was wrong. (Classic fiction reference there if anyone fancies it). -
Lovely thread here. It takes OCDish people to play this game anyway, and music is an art and not a science. If I were to place the tappers, I would have to make many decisions based on aesthetics. Some of the choices made in these songs are great, some good, some not so good and others, as has been noted (you like puns, R0ck1t), just WRONG.
Furthermore, these guys listen to our comments and complaints and address them, and play the game themselves. It's one big tappy family. -
Oh @Deborah, this post is just great! I totally agree with you. -
Nice to get acknowledgement instead of challenge for a change! -
Inappropriate?Yeah I agree with DX on that point (Do you play COD4 of 360 by the way?), you can't say that the game needs to adjust to you, that's just silly.
However in 'Wrong' some of the spheres are definitely out of time, I remember it being in a section that repeats 3 or 4 times. When I played it about 5x through to get in the top 100 I just accommodated for this. Although I must get about 1/3 or a 1/4 hits non-perfect anyway so It can't have made a gigantic difference.
I’m indifferent
-
Nah, no console gaming for me. I do play Quake Live and a few other FPS shooters for PC though :) -
Ahh just I know some friends who don't shut up about a guy they play with DX in his name. I don't console game either (Seeing as the wii doesn't really count).
I really only play AA and COD4 on PC, FPS' are always better on PC due to the mouse and extra buttons, plus none of that auto-aim rubbish. Although I'm told there's a lot less jumping and going prone on consoles, especially when throwing grenades.
Wait what's this topic about again? -
Inappropriate?I think what Spiral is getting at (or what I think he Should be getting at :P ) is there should be a way to offset the audio and video (just like you can in all those other rhythm games (DDR, rock band...)). I agree the game shouldn't just figure that out by itself, but I think manually adjusting the whole thing could be a feature.
-
Hmm perhaps, I used to have my thumb positioned rather high and I found it difficult to get perfects when tapping in tune, when I noticed that problem It was fixed but now it's more uncomfortable, I even resort to one handed, three finger tapping for the 'three note' songs because my hands seem to big for the phone.
I imagine this sort of feature could cause a whole lot of problems online though, then again I didn't program the game so it might just be possible to add user controls to a variable. -
I've found the splashes to be very helpful. I know what the biggest splash looks like. Another complicated thing is that the tappers are not all plotted out accurately, as I'm sure good players know. Some of the "deviant" tappers are great (little jokes on occasion, or echoes of a previous part of the song), but some of them are truly ill placed. In this case I study the placement and find I can get a perfect score when I know the difference between the beat and where the tapper has to be hit. This is not clear language. I hope it's understood. -
Inappropriate?Thank you for the discussion of this issue. Here is one theory about what my experience is.
In my head, I register a tap as occurring when the middle of my finger, closer to my bone, makes contact with the glass. However, the iPhone works by recognizing something that can conduct electricity as a touch. So as soon as my skin touches the glass, the application is registering as a touch, but my head is registering a touch a bit later.
This is my theory, or it could be I have a different iPhone, or the headphones I use with my iPhone take longer to deliver the sound.
And there are times when I am playing when I want to really tap hard, and times when I am tapping soft... is the game scoring differently based on what my head thinks a tap is and what the iPhone thinks a tap is?
In any case, it's very frustrating to separate the beat of the music with the tapping of my fingers. The fun of this game is to make your fingers dance with the beat. When the beat isn't happening with where your fingers are tapping, the fun is lost.
This isn't as much of a deal until you start competing for online scores.
What is so frustrating is I can complete a perfect game, tapping all the tappers, and have the revenge mode on all the time, and score 400k (200k less than the top score) then I can complete another perfect game, and I score 500k... without any idea why one was better than the other except for the fuzzy notion that I must have tapped better on one than the other.
This is why I think the feedback is so terrible. There is no feedback for a perfect tap. There is a tap, and then some are scored better than others, and if you look carefully, you may notice that one tap has a higher splash than another, but not really sure if that was as high as the splash could go, because maybe there is a better tap with a higher splash. Maddening.
There needs to be some indication of a perfect tap. Otherwise, how do I know if I am tapping on the right beat or if the tapper is just off beat. I don't mind it being off beat, but sometimes it is difficult to tell if I should tap to the beat I'm hearing, or if the tapper is off beat.
Some indication besides an arbitrary splash. How about an option, to set how sensitive the perfect tap is? What if I didn't want the game to register a tap unless it was a 150 tap or above? This would allow me to get feedback on taps I was making and taps I was not making.
I'm not saying change the scoring, just allow me to register what kind of tap I want to score.
Or... back to the calibration. Have a calibration screen with a consistent beat and tappers, and let me tap to the beat. The software then knows what my perfect beat is, and then when I am tapping in the game, it can adjust to the beat I am tapping to. This would solve the issue of the iPhone registering a tap as soon as the skin touches the glass, and my head registering a tap as soon as pressure is felt from the glass to my bone. -
Very interesting, and a good idea at the end, but the code for an auto-calibration feature would probably be quite complex. Also I doubt the headphones are delivering delayed sound because unless you have some fancy headphones with their own processor or sound remixingthingymagig electricity travels quite a bit bit faster than sound. (Although the time difference over the 30cm from your head to the phone would be almost un-measurably small, I'd do the calculations but I'm supposed to be doing coursework).
As for feedback I think perhaps something similar to the dance dance revolution arcade game where you have Perfect, Good, Ok, Bad and Miss would be a great addition, as long as you could turn it off, personally I'm now used to the splashes, but when I was starting (awesome as I am), such a feature would have helped me understand the game considerably.
See what the 'public' think, I'm sure if enough people like the idea it could be put into a future version, I'm gonna make my guess at 2.4 or 2.5 :P. -
@ Spiral: You're thinking too much into it. I have no issues with the game whatsoever, other than the occasional bit of lag in difficult songs. -
You see, DX here is an intuitive person. He isn't analytical. If he were, he'd know his brain was adjusting for all these factors you mention. I'd rather have my brain do it than devise some weird system to compensate. The human brain is a wonderful thing... -
OMG another one!! -
This isn't to suck up, because it's merely the truth.
I don't know how many songs DX is the top scorer on, but I bet it's a lot. Same with Ceegers and other top ranking players who've posted here. Hear it from them, some of you are over thinking this: many of us who score well over 200k below the highest score just need more practice. I mean sure, there is a song here and there with a few out of sync tappers, but if they can score into the millions then perhaps so can we with much more practice. I'm still frustrated that I can only manage to score into the 600k's but I've only had TTR2 and Tap Tap Coldplay for three weeks, so I'm giving it more time.
But I do agree that there should be one SOLE colour that designates a perfect tap. Or perhaps some kind of subtle zig-zag pattern on the edge of the blast that indicates it.
Btw, how many different blast sizes are there (if anyone is OCD enough to notice :P) -
I believe there's 3 sizes, and then I think you can get no score and no splash, but keep your streak. not sure. -
Ah right, I forgot this one .. thx for amusing me ;D ....
BTW this is also something mostly misinterpreted by some (I guess) .. I didn't agree with Deborah entirely, her comments have just a poetic beauty that I liked ... also her language is quite clean, which is nice compared to all the comments of those many kids around here.
Go here for an FAQ list: http://tapulous.com/support/ -

What's the point of that, Carlos? .. I don't know why you're talking to me like this again. Scale down your arrogance. -
Goethe, I mean no hostility here as I would like to be amongst the good sides of fellow TTR Players. I said that because you stated on a previoous post that you like inputting, sometimes just for the sake of inputting. I never meant for it to be an arrogant comment; I guess that we're still acquiantances to talk like that to each other. -

Inappropriate? My suspicion, however, is that something like that (displaying how you did in something significant like a word) is likely to be a cause for lag. (similar to the occasional lag with the 2X etc. showing up). Maybe they can make it subtle enough to not cause lag...
But actually, now that I've been looking at it, the splash is a decent indication if you really focus on it. But that does kinda draw your focus away from your future notes :P -
The splash is entirely adequate. I can judge from there and still look at oncoming tappers. I'm sure you can too. -
Inappropriate?"Wrong" has a delay yeah, a lot of songs have them, I would suggest Tapulous takes 1 weekend off to correct all those misplaced beats without changing the amount of them (because that would be unfair). Also I reaaaaaaly want them to make an auto-updater. A few days ago, Double Down Under had been fixed, but still we had to redownload it manually, it just has to be automatic, that's a MUST!
-
Yes - sweet idea. -
Inappropriate?DX. What is your highest score on Wrong.
Until you are competing for scores, you probably won't notice that you aren't tapping perfect. I'm tapping perfect in my head, but the game doesn't recognize it as perfect.
R0ck1t:
There are two types of calibration, auto and manual. The auto may be too complex. However a manual calibration would not.
Have a section of the game that plays a steady beat.
User taps out the beat.
Presses done.
The software has measured where it thinks a perfect tap is to the feedback of the users tapping. Let's say its 330 ms.
It then applies this delay to the scoring of the game. -
Highest score in wrong is roughly 616k. -
Spiral, I don't think you realize that DX is currently ranked the best Tap Tap Revenge 2 player in the world. What he says about this game is the truth and makes complete sense. -
Enrico Caruso was the best tenor in the world and there has been no better since. He wrote the crappiest book on singing every written. DX may be the best player, but that doesn't make what he says right. He knows very little about the petty problems of those who have to work as hard as they do to accomplish what he does intuitively and naturally (not to exclude HIS hard work and practice of course). -
Increased my score in "Wrong" to just below 618k (617,997 - 1st place :P).
Deborah, I still don't think you understand where I'm coming from. My view might be careless/thought-free to you, but I just think it's simple:
If there are early, late, or tappers that don't have a corresponding beat/sound/instrument, you play to those with very slight adjustment (whether conscious or not).
There is really no need to go on a musical lecture or 100-page thread to solve the issue (plus it's more stressful). It's like trying to cut off your own head to alleviate a headache, when you can just get more rest, eat better, or take a pill :).
People are free to think anything about my opinions or posts, but for many that have followed my advice (particularly in regards to grip) have found success more than failure. -
I'm sure you are a good coach, DX. But my game gets better from analyzing and not from intuiting. That's just me - and maybe one or two others. You're the greatest - so what about the grip? I need all the advice I can get. -
Indeed! I haven't read that reply ... "Until you are competing for scores, you probably won't notice that you aren't tapping perfect." ... LMFAOOOOOO
*cough* so waiting for the interview *cough* -
I'd say we all listen to the facts here, which are coming from DX. Obviously he's telling something right when he's number one at this game. Not to mention I fully agree with his reasoning and where am I? Number 2 in this game. Where are you guys trying to force your opinion down on us? Pff, who knows.
No need to sound harsh, but there is a difference between science and a video game...we don't give a piece of dust about some random Enrico Caruso dude and his crappy book especially when that has absolutely nothing to do with a video game where you try and tap every note on an iPod screen...this game is about your own timing of when to tap a note. Tapping to the beat can be one way to do this well, however it is not something to rely on. If you have a problem with this game as much as the topic poster does because it doesn’t have every note to the beat perfectly, then go find a different game to play.
One thing to help is count to the beat of the song in your head, and tap to the beat your counting. This has helped me become the champion of non-arrows in Tap Tap Revenge 1.
By the way, Goethe, quit it with your "lmmfao
"omg you are SO right!" "I LOVE that response!!!" comments on every one of Deborah's post like you're trying to hook with her to get a green card to come to America. It’s getting really annoying.
If you're using sounds the music makes as a way to determine when to tap a note, then you need to stop and adapt to a strategy where you tap based on timing of when you tap based on where the note is onscreen. Or simply a different way to play. Especially when it is NOT working out for you guys. Listen to DX. He knows what he is talking about. Don't argue it. I've tried, and I end up getting proved wrong. Also, he's the one who has changed many player's style of gameplay with his grip which has completely helped other players...like you, goethe. It has even helped me with a few songs (mostly in Tap Tap Dance) -
@Krohn many of your posts are annoying as well .. and if I like one's post I express that .. don't mind what you think about it, you don't have to mind my posts .. it's not your forum, tho you somehow feel like being part of Tapulous .. btw I don't need Deborah to get a green card :P
To your first paragraph: Yes you both are the best TTR2 players, but not everything you believe must be the ultimate truth. You must be catholic and believe just anything what the Pope says, just because he's the Pope ... so you don't need to use your own brains.
And although you're so great and we, that are talking here are so "Pff, who knows" .. why am I in the top 10 for weeks, why am I in some leaderboards, why am I able to beat you once in a while online and also offline (of course I know that you could just like DX improve most of your scores ... but maybe not each and every). But all this shouldn't matter. It's no good argument to say, we're the best, we're the truth. You sound to me like a teenager. Grow up skater boy! -
BTW Krohn, you might not have been smart enough to figure out that my first comment to this reply referred to your comment, not Deborah's ... -
I'd like to cite Ed's reply below here to show you how intelligent people act ...
"This might be worth checking into some more. [...] Anyway, thanks for all your input! " ... and not just saying, this or that opinion is fact ... -
I'm athiest. thank you very much. I'm sorry, but I highly doubt some guy was able to touch a blind man and make him regain sight. I highly doubt some old dude could walk on water. and I highly doubt some guy who got tortured could just wake from the dead. it's called no. not to mention religion is extremely hypocritical and the reason so much violence occurs in the world today.
Also, I am a teenager. I am 15. You're a college student up at four in the morning for whatever reason on a tap tap board telling me to grow up. I think you should get back to academics and not get at me saying I'm dumb and that I should grow up. Quit claiming that DX is shoving his oppions down people's throats when everything he's ever helped you with has got to where you are in this game now.
So if anything, maybe you should grow up, ya nazi. -
Oh no, don't twist my words .. I'm not arguing with DX here! Nor did I claim seriously negative about him ... the only thing I said is, that I disagree and that some points of his post doesn't make sense in my opinion. Don't talk for him, he would tell me himself.
Although you don't like, when I appreciate the content of post ... what you say in your first paragraph sounds good and I'm absolutely with you that religion can be rather dangerous!
ROFLOL you just demonstrated how dumb you are by calling me "nazi" just because I'm German. -
That nazi part was a joke dude XD don't trip...I wasn't being serious -
ok guys really... why? -
@krohn7master I totally admire you and DX and the other "greats." I love your teen age, your atheism, your sarcasm, your naivete, your active imagination, your certainty, and most of all your scores. Without you where would Ceegers, goethe the green card-seeking nazi and I be? I forgot to mention that I loved your "shake" video and how you crack me up! LOL -
Inappropriate? Here's another theory about why the game is ambiguous with it's top scoring.
This is a free game. They get their money from advertisement. The more times a person plays a song, the more money they get. It could be the developers are evil geniuses and have 'tapped' into creating the perfect addictive game. Just enough feedback so you think you are doing perfect, until you get to the end of a song and realize, you were 100k away from perfect. But you don't really know what you can do to improve... so you play the song again and again and again. :)
"despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage..." -
This is a conspiracy theory. We are dealing with honest businessmen here. -
Honestly, that would be pretty funny. But seriously, that's not what we're doing... :P -
Inappropriate? So this has been a topic of discussion ever since the beginning of Tap Tap Revenge 1. Since then we have played with moving the tap areas up/down, shifting the tap-sync ever so slightly, and only recently giving dynamic feedback on tap perfection.
I do agree -- some sort of "Perfect" message/indicator would be helpful to discern which taps really are perfect, and which are close to perfect.
Here are some potential solutions:
Add the perfect indicator (beyond the size of the splash) so you know exactly what you got on that tap. 100%, 75%, etc...
Add some time/placement calibration in settings. I think this would work best if all our tap charts were extremely precise. It wouldn't work if you're seeing some taps ahead, and some taps behind (btw - is this the case sometimes?)
As a final note - the tap charts are all created visually (and of course audibly) so Nick can actually line up the tap with the beat or instrument in the track. Maybe the few milliseconds for eye-brain-finger tap instructions + device lag adds up to seem like the game is off sync.... This might be worth checking into some more.
On that note -- has anyone noticed a difference in these lags per device? (iPhone 2.5G/3G, iPod 1G/2G)
Anyway, thanks for all your input! -
Ed, until the last update, I saw no problem with the taps for a long time. Nick is some sort of genius. As I said elsewhere, he lines up the taps with great skill, a sense of humor and creative choices. Unlike others, I find the splashes to be a very adequate guide as to accuracy. I think the problem is in the stability of the latest update or the latest shifts made. I recently upgraded from the old iPhone to the 3G. I didn't notice any difference in how TTR2 performed. I also had no complaints about the first update. It is since the last one that I noticed all the problems. I suspect some recent change, rather than anything about the devices. -
Hm, recently I'm also wondering why I mess up so many notes I didn't mess up before the update ... for instance, the first part of Rude Boy Come Test .. I never had that much problems to manage it -
playing the beginning of it just now, I'm not personally having issues with that song... -
Maybe just imagination ... -
I don't think it's imagination. I am also having trouble with songs that didn't bother me before. -
yea, i think that the main thing would be to let people know visually when they get a perfect tap. Because then even if (when) some of the taps are slightly off the music players will be able to self correct -
Ok, it's definitely imagination (paired with frustration I guess) ... recently I scored my best result ever on Rude Boy Come Test ...
But I don't agree yet, that all notes in all songs (especially easy, medium, hard ones) are annotated perfect or that you can tap each perfect by tapping right at the moment as the sphere passes the center of the target ... I don't care the first cause, but the second is a bit cumbersome as you can't always trust the visual feedback.
@Pyro637 Isn't the flashing circle who's radius depends on how perfectly you tapped yet a visual feedback you're asking for?!?? ... We're talking about TTR2, not TTR here. -
@goethe: Thats not very obvious...at least for me. A lot of the time my fingers get in the way and its hard to tell what size it is. I think a better way to do it would be to have different colors. As long as those colors are not too distracting. -
Inappropriate?I fully realize I can come across as blunt, maybe offensive, but I call a spade a spade. The reason I find no problems with the game and the grand majority (as in, 99%) of the tap charts/tracks is because I spot what instrument the spheres are trying to match, not especially *the* general beat. Some times the spheres follow the drums (or only certain PARTS of the drums), the guitar, bass, etc. It's not hard to figure out and adjust accordingly.
If the spheres and arrows were to follow every instrument or beat within a song, this game would be quite unplayable, even for the top players.
Furthermore, I am amused that I still see the "well I play/study music in real life" thing come up. Excuse me? Last I checked we are in a game forum, not the Symphony Orchestra. The day we have to hook up a violin to the dock port in the iPod or iPhone in order to play, that's when that lame argument will hold any water.
No, I don't study music, but I enjoy it--just as I enjoy playing games.
It just happens that both are completely different things :)
PS: Maybe people are having issues because their hand-eye coordination isn't great? It could very well be that the time it takes for your brains to send a motor signal to the fingers is so long that you think the game is off-beat ;) -
LOL nice that you said "what instrument the spheres are trying to match" ...
The human visual system isn't that slow that it takes so much time before you realize that you just hit the screen ... even if it would, the delay would be almost constant ... otherwise the images you "see" in your brain wouldn't be smooth ... or movies would have to be sampled irregularly ... this doesn't make sense DX ;)
So even if there would be a reasonable delay between when the eye captures the sphere in the target, the brain processing the signal, sending a command to the finger to tap and the finger taps finally, you would still be able to see when you actually hit the sphere ... so all the processing time before doesn't matter ... if it took to long you would be able to recognize this and think, damn, I tapped to slowly or too late ... on the other side you could certainly tell, hey, I just saw the sphere under my finger as it hit the screen, why am I losing my streak?!?? WTF!! -
Yeah, if you actually read my post, you'd see that I made it clear that the spheres cannot possibly match every beat or instrument, so by default they can only try to match parts of the beats or instruments, etc. -
I understood your post this way: You're saying that not every beat of every instrument can be annotated by a note to tap (that's fine and I totally agree) ... but the ones that are annotated are matching their corresponding beats in the sound signal perfectly ... isn't that what you claimed? ... Otherwise you would agree with Deborah and me ;) -
But if you meant by parts of a beat, that the sound signal (a time signal) of a single beat occupies a specific amount of time, and thus the time when a sphere has to be in the middle of the target cannot be deducted perfectly, I agree with you ... however, these are such short time intervals that I don't think that it matters anyway ... so there's still the proposition, that not all tap notes are annotated correctly (with the aforementioned acceptable inaccuracy) to the sound signal of their corresponding beat .. otherwise the human wouldn't notice it .. you say, you don't notice any inaccuracy, but others claim they do ... and I assume a trained ear of a musician might recognize that more easily -
My "wrong" tapper below, is just an orphan - it is not trying to match a beat or an instrument or a voice. -
Certainly I put it a bit to far again (just remember the discussion about quitting ;P).
My first comment mainly referred to your PS, not the actual reply. I'm not sure if this was clear. I just wanted to stress that that's definitely not the reason why I'm observing that a tap isn't recognized .. I don't say that it should be accounted for as a perfect one, I'm just talking about losing the streak in cases where I clearly see that the sphere was within the target as I tapped. I would assume that I shouldn't lose it in this case. That's my concern. -
Goethe, I'm a studying musician as well, not quite university level, but I've done enough piano to have a really trained ear (relative pitch, intervals, the works, but nothing insane). But still I attribute my sub-par score to lack of hand-eye co-oridination. Perhaps why you and I are not being accurate in tapping notes is because as we were trained, we are supposed to FOLLOW the beat. DX here is saying that if there in inaccuracies in the song, part of reaching the high score is adapting to the song and perhaps isolating what hear from what you see. The gyst of what I'm saying is that is DX can adapt, then why can't we.
BUT I do agree to some extent that work can be done to improve the tracks. But seriously, I think that if we continue complaining, Ed's going to report to his manager that they need to put a price on this game, because some of us don't appreciate that going through everytrack making sure tappers are placed perfectly requires an extensive amount of time and resources. -
Hey Carlo, I don't know if you re-read my posts already and realized that you mostly misinterpreted them. First I never said I'm a musician, I just mentioned that a musician might notice inaccuracies others, who are less trained in this, might not recognize. Moreover, I already noticed that I actually don't mind if the notes are annotated correctly as long as I can rely on the visual feedback, which means that I can tap when the spheres are in the center of the target. But I also say that their are such misplaced notes, and just can't agree when someone denies this just because it might be unimportant to him.
I also just wanted to say, that the hand-eye coordination is in my opinion even not an argument that someone might recognize problems with the recognition of his taps as I certainly can see when my finger hits the screen .. independent of how long it took until it started to tap. In the moment it hit the screen, I can clearly say if the sphere was within the target or not. If I lose my streak although I saw the sphere within the target, I wonder why. That's my concern, nothing else. Hope I made it clear, finally.
I know that my comments on this reply are strangely phrased, that's why I posted the third comment. The reason is that I'm in computer science, specifically pattern recognition, image processing and also a bit speech recognition. That combined with the fact that English isn't my native language just makes it cumbersome for me to make myself clear. The technical English is just what I'm more familiar with.
To the point about the complaining. I can't see why people have so much problems when others report problems or ideas of improvement with a software on the corresponding support and discussion forum. No one of us so called whiners, ever said that we think Tapulous is doing a bad job (I would exclude the overhasty release of version 2.1, though) or that any of the TTR games is lousy. Even because we don't think so, we're concerned and want to help the guys to make the most wanted, best and most beautiful game available on the iPhone/iPod Touch as we all just love it. That's something we all here have in common! Nobody could deny that there is room for improvement. Calling someone a whiner or his comment childish is often just a bad argument that fills the room of having no argument or used to avoid to agree with the so called whiner.
PS I really enjoyed reading your comment, especially because you asked before in the other thread if someone might give you hints on TTR Coldplay Edition ... have you ever looked at the extreme leaderboards with arrows on? ;D ... as I said, it amused me, don't worry! -
well said, goethe :) -
Makes sense, you're studying computer science. As I already posted at the bottom of the thread, I apologize for my nonsensical commenting.
And why did you enjoy reading my comment?
I do play with arrows and I check the leaderboards often...what's the point? -
As you're such a great Coldplay fan .. why don't you play TTR Coldplay Edition .. I thought you're talking about this version. I never realized that there are more than just Lovers in Japan available in TTR2 as I haven't played at least half of the Hard tracks and mostly none of Medium or Easy ... -
Inappropriate? If you knew what I know you wouldn't say that, DX. Not all the tappers have anything to do with an instrument. Quite a number are straight out of Nick's head - and there is NO doubt about that. If I were as good a player as you I wouldn't care as much about what is wrong either. In fact, I study the songs and find the mistakes so I can play them better. You are more intuitive as a player, and younger with better reflexes and you do all that unconsciously. Congratulations.
I’m not thrilled.
-
Inappropriate? There's still the laggy performance that disturbs the accuracy of the visual feedback. The notes could be annotated as precisely as possible to the digital samples of the sound signal, still the spheres won't be right in the middle of the target with the correct timing all the time.
So, we have some clear influences on the precision (maybe among others):
- The annotation of the notes
- The potential delay of the visual feedback
- The response time of a tap event
Not all of these might have a noticeable or crucial impact, but in my case the visual feedback lags quite a lot even in single player mode. I wish, I could record a high resolution video ... the notes aren't moving smooth at all for me, they're just jumping step-by-step a lot ... I'd like to restore the original firmware (cause my device is jailbroken) and install only TTR2 to see if it helps.
That's why I tap to the music in first place, and consider the spheres being in the target just in second place. Mainly I look above the targets to recognize the tap pattern and then just tap to the music. And of course practice is necessary to know from both acoustic and visual feedback when to tap best. -
I realized today, that what I described in the last paragraph isn't what I'm doing to score well, actually ... Both feedbacks are necessary, but the visual one is the dominant part ... -
Inappropriate?I have an example of a "wrong" tapper: In "Gettin' Up" there is a misplaced tapper at the end of the words, "...and not one tone dull." Check it out and see.
And yes, goethe, i agree with your last paragraph. Also, once I learn where the "wrong" tappers are they become right. More intuitive players may not even notice that they do this.
I got destroyed in the rooms this weekend and today. something is different, and it's not me. I saw one guy rise and fall before my eyes - he must have been up all weekend beating everyone (I kept coming in second to him) and then suddenly, he and I were both off our game. He must be sleeping it off. I didn't see him today. -
Thank you for giving a specific example.
The thing is... just now I've played that song 3 times, and I hear the words "and not one tone dull", but I'm not seeing Anything odd about the taps near it. And I do have a rather musical/rhythmic mind, so I would think I would. What color is the tapper you seem to think is out of place? -
I'm always in revenge mode so it's black, but there are two tappers on the word, "dull." One right after the other. Only one note, one beat. -
....... are we talking about approx. 70% of the way into the song? (like, if I quit right after, my hit is around 71 or 72%)
Cause there are no taps on the word "dull" here... -
being more specific, the 2 taps occurring during the actual phrase (which occurs right after a few arrows, yes?) seem to be following that main bass line, with a long held middle-lane tap which happens to occur on the word "tone", and then the next taps I have are on the left, and they follow that high (probably electric guitar) note that plays a rhythmic pattern
nothing on or directly after the word "dull" -
*bumping because I'm not so sure deborah saw my replies* -
Sorry Ceegers, it didn't load my reply. I had the wrong place. It was "...and not one lull." On the word "lull" are two tappers. One is a definite orphan. It belongs nowhere. And yes they are on the left. I hear nothing - no beat, no voice, no instruments. But according to DX it shouldn't matter. -
Ok NOW I got your spot lol. (immediately after the other lyric, right?)
And I do hear something: that is part of the electric guitar pattern on that one high note (that plays frequently throughout the song).
So in other words, pretty sure that spot is by no means wrong. -
This comment was removed on 04/21/09.
see the change log -
OK you're right. I may find you another error after a good night's sleep. I have to be playing at the time, because I don't remember them. I've often thought of keeping a list.
You could argue that there is a little guitar note there, but it is still an inappropriate tapper because it has no particular emphasis: It is not a tapper to the BEAT. It is a tapper to a string pluck. -
Alright, sounds good :) -
Ceegers, check my edit. -
(thanks for noting your edit)
but so are the 8 or so (however many it is) taps before that. That whole phrase follows the guitar pattern, so to me it's logical to have that tap at the end. -
You're a stubborn cuss. I'll check it again in the morning, but from my lousy memory the tappers were following QTip and not the guitar..It struck me as wrong every time I played it. -
Haha! Well at least you know I'm not ignoring you :P
I can hear what you're thinking. I can see it could be very reasonable to think the tappers are following the vocals. However, if you listen instead to the guitar, you will probably notice it also follows the guitar.
And then the "extra" tap on the word "lull"; this I think encourages the conclusion that those taps were actually meant to follow the guitar, instead of the vocals.
So in other words, I understand now where you were coming from, however I suspect that this and some other spots you thought were wrong are simply because you're concentrating on a different instrument. -
Not ready to concede sweetheart. There are too many of these. On the intrumental break of the easy song, Little Black Backpack, the tappers are following the guitar. There are two riffs where the tappers are off. They are changing the rhythm by one note each time. This is wrong. I like it, but it's wrong. Now I'm listening to "Gettin' Up" again and I continue to maintain that although you can find the guitar part there, the tappers are not following it. So the extra tapper doesn't really belong. I wonder what Nick thinks? -
LOL!
Can I just say I love it when somebody else stays with a discussion/argument like you are.
Now Little Black Backpack, I will agree with you, they're just kinda off.
My defense for the makers can consist of two things:
1. It's easy mode... the way they made it is an easier rhythm I think (hard for me to judge that...)
2. Possibly what they were going for was the start of the slide. Sure the note occurs a little sooner, but it slides up to the next note, and perhaps they were trying to imitate this.
So while I agree, I'm just saying they probably have their reasons :)
Concerning Gettin' Up... I still think the tappers follow the guitar part more accurately than the vocals, even ignoring the last note. (though I will note that now that I listen very closely, there is one tap that is slightly off the guitar rhythm, however I will attribute that to the rhythm they used is also used elsewhere in the song, and it's nice to have a theme going on)
Another example in the song of where it uses a rhythm like this to follow the guitar is about 43% of the way through the song... about 220-230 taps in... Rhythm decently clearly follows the guitar for a while there.
You know, I'm kinda unusual in that when I listen to music, I do not primarily listen to the vocals. For me with this song in particular, my mind is gonna be drawn naturally more towards the instrumental notes and rhythm. For this reason, this rhythm to me just automatically was like, oh yeah, there's that guitar part, definitely.
By the way, I think I'm gonna create a new thread for these kinds of discussions... so maybe we can move there once I make it :) -
"Not ready to concede sweetheart" ... YEAH! I love tough people and people that don't just think "oh, you're way better than me, so I just have to agree with you!!" as others do *cough* Krohn *cough*
By the way, everyone who doesn't want to discuss or to challenge something just could ignore the discussion. -
@ goethe most discussion on message boards tends to end in flames. It would be nice if DX et al had a bit more humility and magnanimity. I almost did concede last night from sheer fatigue, but then I caught a second wind :D
@ Ceegers This is why I was looking for a venue for discussion. Twinkle doesn't do it for me (for one thing it keeps crashing on me) because it is not meant for discussion. Neither is this board. So let me know when another is up and running.
But for now: "Backpack" just has a rhythmic inaccuracy. I wish you would trust me on that one. It doesn't make it any easier - if anything you have to learn to tap correctly after going over it at least once - so that isn't it. As for the sliding, I don't really know what you mean. The tapper is just late twice.
On "Gettin' Up" I'll have to give it even a third listen. What I noticed was that the tappers followed the vocal pretty faithfully for most of the song. I still maintain that the one tapper there is simply misplaced, even if it occurs in the guitar. I'll let you know if I change my mind :)
I would love a comment from the AUTHOR, if he cares to make one. -
Why not discussing here? It's like a discussion forum and the topic is product related .. I'm certain, the company guys can easily ignore this thread if they want to .. on the other side, they get a chance to read along ... don't know why people are complaining they're tired of a discussion and everybody else should stop discussing because of that ... I reply "Stop following!" ... it's that simple
I just like discussions that have one or another climax. The nice thing is that after a climax there's rapid reconciliation ... just as in literature :D
I would say that many people around here are just too premature to stand a real and sometimes offense discussion ... :P -
To come back to our discussion ...
As I said I wouldn't care misplaced notes, where misplacement means that the event of a note to tap doesn't correspond well to any rythm/beat/instrument. But what's more important to me than is, that the visual feedback, the spheres that represent the notes and the moment when the spheres pass the target corresponding to the moment I have to tap, is out of sync ... if last won't be the case, I could concentrate primarily on the spheres and the targets and considering the music just as background (depending on the difficulty .. on easy to hard songs I concentrate mostly on the spheres, on extreme songs I cannot follow each sphere, so I have to consider the music more) and wouldn't lose my streak as long as I tap right when the black sphere is within the target. I'm not sure if this is really always the case ... (today wasn't bad, so I'm a bit more uncertain about this) ... -
Just a word in favor of DX's point of view. If tappers (what you call spheres) are wrong or right, you figure it out sooner or later, and correct for them. Then you sometimes just get on a roll and cannot say what you are doing right, and lo and behold you are killing the room! When that happens I am on top of the world. I don't know why or how I'm doing it right, and as you say I have no time to think of it. I imagine that's how the best players feel more of the time.
I do know that something is wrong since the latest update because, as others have said, I am losing my streak over shakes and taps I thought were accurate. My score is way down, and I'm sitting here analyzing because I don't know what the problem is. -
don't have much time at the moment,
goethe, yes I would agree that this is a place for discussion, but as you can see by their comments, some other people seem to not think so. But it seems to me that's why all of this is here.
Edit: oh, reading down further, I see you addressed that lol :P -
deborah: if you feel like going here: http://getsatisfaction.com/tapulous/t...
I kinda created it for things like this :)
As far as the update goes... personally I had those issues you mentioned before the update too, and I haven't noticed it getting better or worse specifically. What I do notice is my tap and holds don't screw up the following notes as often anymore. -
Inappropriate?yep! something is wrong with me or the game or my iPod, this weekend was the WORST in my life to tap, i hitted every tap correctly to get the full points (1200) during my 8x streak, and most of the time i just got 600 or sometimes ANYTHING! i played a lot of easy songs to practice and the same happened to me! i lost a lot of global score points and i'm pissed off, because i don't think EVERYONE got too good at this game from one day to another is it a fail in the recognition of the taps in the update 2.1.1 or what? is someone experiencing the same as me? i'm a little bit confused =S
I’m so, so, so, SAD!
-

this solves the problem
-
i hope that a lot of people are having the same problem as us, and Tapulous make a correction and give us a new update to tap recognition, those guys are the best i'm totally sure that will help us! it's so frustrating to lose all my points, and rank that i think i deserve it :( HELP HELP HELP D: -
Inappropriate?Could we just end this thread? its getting really annoying. Just end it with the statement that not all taps are 100% perfect. As you can see, some players could cope with the spheres better, than the others, even that they're not 100% accurate. This is a game, we do not take reality as a factor. Saying in TTR that the taps follow the instrument wrong, its like saying Oh wait the BFG9000 is not real omgomg!!! in Doom.
2 people say
this solves the problem
-
I was just about to say this: guys, if you don't tap the beats right, practice more and go tap them right. It IS possible to get full points on many of the beats as long as you keep tapping the beats right. If you are not a topplayer, that doesn't mean you are not ABLE to tap the beats right, look at me, DXC, kiki, L1gh7, cunac and krohn7 for example. Don't we tap them right, yeah we do, so just practice more! -
to clarify, I'm all for that, and I do that. I just like discussing it anyway :P -
@Anoesj You forget something. I'd like to consider myself being part of that list ...
@Korineczek The reality I take as a factor is the definition that when I hit a sphere right within the target, I don't lose streak ...
@both of you: As I said before. If you don't like discussions, just hit the "unfollow" link next to the big yellow button up there and you'll be relieved. -
Sorry goethe, forgot you :(.
(By the way, I wrote "for example")
Re:@both of you: it's not that I don't mind the discussion, it's just the point that we'll finish at. There will be no end of this discussion and even if there is, this will always be the conclusion: if you are not good, practice and try other ways to tap. -
Haha, I didn't mind that you didn't mention me ... I just wanted to make you recognize that the ones you address and the top ones you mentioned aren't a disjoint set ... I'm part of both ...
To the second paragraph: The discussion is over as soon as everybody agrees to a greatest common factor or draws his/her own conclusions, while leaving the discussion. Deborah, Ceegers and probably me are still actively in the discussion. I don't want anybody to tell us "Stop that! It's pointless, it gets us nowhere, it's uneccessary, it's foolish, it's whatsoever, stop that!" ... NO! :P -
Haha, ok goethe ;). -
@Goethe Don't forget your buddy Poolzeit_de in the arrows-off league. Nice idea btw. -
@LukeBierfzl What about him and the idea you're talking about??? -
This comment was removed on 04/22/09.
see the change log -
Yes, it is a game, but it is obviously based on real rhythms, so I don't see anything wrong with talking about differences between them. It's not like we're even upset or anything; we just want to talk about the variations.
Telling us we shouldn't be talking about it is like telling somebody not to criticize terribly-made animation, saying what could be better, just because it's not real. (oh, it's just images anyway, who cares if it jerks around and doesn't look smooth at all?)
(note: I don't by any means think TTR is terrible, in fact I think it's pretty much awesome) -
I think we all agree that TTR is awesome. I don't play any other game - not at all a gamer. However, I do plan to post elsewhere yet again that I am losing my streak after shakes (only left and right) and also at odd moments when I KNOW I have made no error. Better players may correct for this problem, but I can't. And for the record, if I had enough time, even with a significant handicap of poor reflexes, I would leave most of the guys in the dust! -
@LukeBierfzl Hey Luke! Would you be so kind and explain your post to me, please? -
Inappropriate? Can someone please help me with this: When I do everything right with WRONG (hard version) the highest possible streak seems to be 484. If all taps earned the maximum 1200 points that would give a maximum of 580'800 points. How come then that a lot of folks have more than these points? What do I wrong, what do I miss?
I’m rather confused.
-
Seems like you don't have the updated version of the song ... delete the one you have by swiping over it and download it again ... then you'll have tap-and-holds in it ... so the score can be higher than the sum of all taps -
You are also not counting the holds, which happen to earn (I'm guessing) roughly 80k or more. -
Inappropriate? Thanks, goethe and DX-Chain! That - hopefully - seems to be the reason. But shouldn't the players be alerted that songs are updated? Otherwise you try and try and never come close. How many songs do you think are updated since they first could be downloaded?
-
They were ... through Twitter and most importantly by the news feed in TTR2 ...
Double Down Under (Extended) on Extreme was fixed ... no dropping sphere any more ... don't know about any other songs -
Inappropriate? To you elite players out there such as DX, goethe, Ceegers, krohn etc: how long have you been playing this game? Can you give an average duration as to how much time a day you spend as well? I just want to know where I am in terms of other people's scores. Right now, I score a good 550-650k points on a song a know pretty well. And it is discouraging to know that on a song where I got 100% accuracy and never broke a streak, I only got 650k points (Yellow on Hard). The reason why I'm not so keen to complain about the lagging issue is that I have no credibility to base an argument on. But I will say that I wouldn't mind some tweaking with the songs even though I'm not good enough yet to notice the misplaced notes :P
-
I'm not sure if I've been playing quite long enough to be called elite yet lol. I got here only about 2 weeks ago. and with me it's more because I can FC songs like Night Falls rather than amazing tap accuracy like DX has.
And you can't base songs in general off of one score. A song like night falls, sure we can get over a million... but then something like magnetic baby, there's no way you could get a million.
as for playing time... well I'm in college, so it can really vary how much time I have, since various things might be going on. -
I wouldn't say that you should compare your progress with the progress of others and certainly not with the highest scores yet. As long as you improve your scores not just by a few hundreds, you're certainly getting better, don't you?
You might want to have a look at DXChain's YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/Chaindude84) to get further tips how you could improve your scores by improving your technique. Other good pointers are the popping circles that show you how well you tapped a certain note. Play easy, medium or maybe also hard songs and concentrate on those circles and notice when you have to tap to get the highest possible score for a tap. -
As probably the lamest player posting here (and one of ttr's greatest fans) I can say that while I thought I would never amount to anything at this game I finally started getting better at it. My biggest problem now is consistency. I can build up my online score over time and then lose it in an hour, especially when I get slaughtered by the better players, but I now realize that if I keep at it, I can get very good, and it doesn't much matter to me how long it takes as long as I'm having fun and getting better. My analytic mind just enhances enjoyment of the game, but it certainly doesn't make me a better player. -
Well I know. I'm a pretty big Coldplay fan so I've been playing that about 95% of the time over TTR2. But still, my highest score for Shiver is like 605k, 650k for Lovers in Japan aon extreme, and about 600k for Shiver, Yellow, Viva la VIda and Clocks on hard.
And good point goethe. We're not in vacuum here. And I'm a musician, so I should know that. Regarding your responses to my other messages, I apologizing for misunderstanding your point. Perhaps it was gut response to your million on so posts on this thread. But then again, that makes me no better :P
Popping circles, care to elaborate?
And thank you - I already am consulting DX's advice :)
Deborah: consistency is a major issue for me as well. I play mostly solo but even still, it's the irritation I get from not being able to top a score that makes me miss notes. -

I'm not sure if I interpret this comment of you, Carlo, properly after I've read your other replies to me. But as I see, you don't want to get my advice as you're only talking to the master himself. Well, your choice. -
Inappropriate?Hey Carlo, I'm gonna do a Viva La Vida (non-boss version, Extreme) video soon, so sit tight for a few days :)
-
Yep, but seems he doesn't play TTR Coldplay Edition at all :)
On the other side, I'm confused .. can't find any other Colplay track in TTR2? Only Lovers in Japan on Hard and Extreme ... -
Lovers in Japan is a good song on extreme! It's fun :) -
agreed! @ swimminsurfer -
Goethe, may I ask why you think that it seems like I don't play TTR Coldplay Edition at all?
Lovers in Japan is the only Coldplay track in TTR2. They used it as a precursor to promote the game. -
*adds for helpfulness*
look at Carlo's top-most comment in this thread... he says "but I've only had TTR2 and Tap Tap Coldplay for three weeks", hence meaning he does have the coldplay one :P -
@Ceegers and @Carlo, I yet noticed that .. but the comments are, like mine, spread over the entire thread, so, as I mentioned, got confused of what Carlo's now actually talking about.
@Carlo As I said, I was somehow confused and probably I don't know the proper meaning of "over" in "played that over TTR2". I thought you're saying that you're playing Coldplay songs on TTR2 mostly .. which baffled me. The other ironically reason for saying so was just that I couldn't believe that someone who plays TTC a lot writes something like "Perhaps why you and I are not being accurate in tapping notes ...", you see :) .. and this sentence was actually the only thing that amused me. I didn't mind that you thought I'm tapping poor, which I tried to make obvious in first place. But phrases like "Never meant to be a nuisance." and "I apologize for my nonsensical commenting" in your following replies just read like being pure cynicism.
P.S.: Just for you I played now all tracks on TTC with arrows-on. The arrows-off league is also almost finished. Just the extreme songs (and of course Kids difficulty) are missing yet. But this won't last long. So, as of now, whenever you submit a score on TTC, you won't pass to realize the wrong conclusion that I'm tapping too inaccurate or that my hand-eye coordination might be failing. ;P -
Inappropriate?Incredible conversations in this thread!
I don't mind the tappers being off beat or syncopated or just wanky, what I do mind is not being able to tell if I am tapping correct to the tappers.
One problem is I may be tapping to a different part of the song. A guitar note when the tapper is on a beat right next to that note. I'm still hitting the tapper, but it's not a full hit. I keep tapping to the beat that I think the tapper is on, and never realizing that the tapper is telling me to tap on a different beat.
I need better visual feedback so I know how to correct my taps to the tappers.
One suggestion, up/down arrows in the middle of the screen.
If I'm ahead of a tapper, the up arrow appears letting me know I need to tap later. if I'm behind a tapper, a down arrow appears letting me know I need to tap sooner. If I'm right on, then nothing appears.
Another suggestion, ability to turn splashes off, or just show a ring around the tap area, and keep it there, freeze it. Don't animate the splash. This would at least allow me to see if all my taps are at the highest level, and when I make a faulty tap the ring goes down . The graphics will frequently stall or jitter. I'm running TTR2 on a first gen iPhone. Tried all the suggestions about rebooting, battery, restoring, etc. It may be my wifi or cell phone connection is screwing up the processing. I would like to run in airplane mode, but I have to leave the wifi on in order to submit a score.
Ability to attain high score when offline, and submit when online. This would allow me to run in airplane mode and may improve performance.
I still think there is lag in the game and I'm tapping too early. I'm tapping to what I think is the beat, but not getting full score. If I delay my response, then I get a higher tap. But this takes the fun out of the game because I want to tap to the beat and interact with the music.
My apologies to any of the tap gods out there that I didn't know who you were. (DX :) And thanks to the other ones out there who have joined in the conversation. I see your names up on the scoreboards all the time.
All this to say, I've thoroughly enjoyed playing TTR2, Coldplay and NIN! Thank you for making a game that allows me to interact with music I love! I wonder if in the future, all music will be listened to like this. Or if people will be able to create their own tap files for songs, upload them and share them with others. Thank you for the great game! -
this kid's got some good ideas *nods* -
ditto.
I'm still mystified as to why I and some others have experienced greater problems with the most recent update, while others report that it's fine. I'm so frustrated I'm truly about to give up. I was really starting to hit my stride until about a week ago, and now nothing works right. Someone or something has to deliver me or I'm out. -
Inappropriate?I just remembered you can turn on airplane mode and turn on the wifi. I think this is helping me with some of the stuttering. I know when I make a mistake the game will stutter, probably because it's switching the colors of all the tappers from black to color while they are moving.
Just wanted to give a tip out there for others... try turning on airplane mode, and then turn the wifi connection on. -
Inappropriate?Hi Deborah try to play with an iPod 2G. I made the switch two weeks ago and my scores improved (although I would like to see them getting better). I further noted that if the iPod is full it gets slower. And then, there are Good Days Bad Days like the Chiefs said. Don't challenge your fate on a bad day.

You know, I'm am like a gambling addict in this way. I get my score where it's never been and then I keep playing until I hit a losing streak and ruin it. I have done this about ten times. I spend most of my play gaining lost ground because I haven't known when to stop! -
I know EXACTLY what you're talking about ;D -
I knew "someone" would be able to relate to that one! -
Inappropriate?Man I had a whole bad week! I don't know if it's because I turned on Airplane Mode as SpiralOcean suggested or if everyting suddenly got better. All the things I was complaining about seem to be gone, and I'm getting my score back. Thanks for the vote of confidence!!
I’m happier than I've been in a while.

I found a couple other tips to help with TTR2 stuttering.
Turn auto brightness off.
Purchase iStat application. With this app you can free up memory. I found this helped TTR2 run smoothly. Even after rebooting my iPhone, TTR2 would still stutter. But when I go into iStat, free up memory, TTR2 almost always run better.
I resigned myself to the delay of tapping. It sucks that for every tap I'm thinking, delay, delay, watch splash, delay. But I was able to improve my score.
Glad you are coming out of the dead zone. -
