TTR3 - "3" for 3 years-old kids?
Omg it's not a praise, so dear Tapulous-addicts, please stay away from here ;)
Yeah great great, new music, new menu and "more social" [...]
But did you guys ever thought about the "good" players who still play TTR because it's fun to tap to that great music? It seems like you didn't.
Two good points first: One thing, which makes me happy about TTR3: The game performance incredibly improved on Easy, Medium and Hard. Of course some skipping problems which can be fixed in the next updates. Also, you finally got rid of that senseless Kids-Mode.
But now: You messed up in many other things. Why did TTR3 get so childish? I mean, this intro-jingle, which soo doesn't fit the rest of the modern menu (thanks to my jailbreaked device, i already removed that), this Avatar (-Store) stuff (they're so ugly when i join a room and see tons of them) , the locked Medium/Hard/Extreme Rooms, this all reminds me of being in a kindergarden.
PLUS: Why this weapon stuff? Do you think that's a fair online competition then? No matter if you want TTR3 to be more social, but you missed the main part of it: Playing it to get highscores and showing your skills online. You can even have fun online without the weapons. And what about the ranks? Why aren't they back? Sorry but online play doesn't make sense anymore in TTR3.
Why 16x? This is just a senseless new feature and you don't know if that leaderboard score was cheated or if the one just activated the 16x on the best moment. Also, there's no proof that you really FC'd a song then! If someone activates 16x when there's a tough part of the song he not really FC'd it , if you get what i mean.
Annd why do the taps come down so fast in Extreme-Mode? I mean, the songs are tough enough on Extreme. And it would be okay if it wouldn't lag like fuck. The performance dramatically decreases on Extreme compared to Hard (iPhone 3G). It drops, it freezes and skips and it's impossible (for me) to get a good accuracy --> a good score.
There are still some other tiny problems but these are the most important to me. If you wanna keep all your fans and not only wanna see little kids battling on the streets with their awesome online weapons and how they argue which Avatar looks cooler then please think about TTR3 and it's future again

Lmao @ Andrew - I love how you used me as an example for your own sake and Luis, I eat bananas! hehe :P
Anyway, My main frustration is towards the OS Im usin (3.0), which is a huge factor in to why I can't enjoy TTR3 to the extent that I had hoped.
However, there are still things that will take a bit of getting used to, some things I could do without even:
Avatars : The idea is nice, it adds creativity, but if there was an option to switch from the avatar to our own displays, that would be nice, especially since there's the online in-game ranking using the avatars. I recognize players by their original pics. Also, an option to change the entire avatars style would be great cuz I chose the wrong girl and I'd love to get a different one :P
- Profile : I think the actual profile picture should be towards the top if anything, rather than way at the bottom
Extreme mode : Its hell for me because with 3.0 everything skips, glitches drops, and the taps are moving too fast. I'd like the original speed better, but I don't wanna make any 'for sure' conclusions of it until I test it with 3.1.1
Chat : I love how there's chat in the lobby of the waiting room, awesome feature, I just think there should be a little colors, its too vivid and a little too animated
Online mode : I gotta get used to the bombs n lightning bolts, but it's cool for less serious play, just having fun. I hear that there are rooms that don't have the weapons which is great, for more serious play/competition, but the lack of rank doesn't fulfill the notion of true
Performance : Workin on 3.0 isn't helpin me much but there are some performance issues that need to be fixed. The loading of menus such as the store, the chart, awards, etc, is way too slowly. I think the best loading is that of the tracks (maybe b/c I only have 3 tracks per difficulty, but still seems faster than ttr2). I really like organization of the track list, and that there are tabs rather than pressing back
>>
- I actually like homescreen graphics. The wheel thing is so cool to me.
- The restart at the end of the game and the pause menu is just perfect.
- Scores automatically sent to world leaderboard is convenient for me cuz I send all my scores anyway
- the Inbox is so convenient too, love that feature

I love the game except for only:
-16x - Giving you invulnerability for the entire 10 seconds is pretty lame and you end up with a lot of FCs (according to the game) that really were not FCs. It should offer no invulnerability whatsoever, not even at the very start, like 8x does. If you lose it, too bad.
-Most themes - I wish I could play the extreme songs in the default TTR3 theme with the added speed. The speed is only a visual thing btw, the timing of the notes does not change, so all you noob emos complaining about the speed need to stfu.
-Online Mode - It's aimed at newer users of course, but a set of rooms that utilize classic, unfettered (as in, no items/gimmicks) TTR2 gameplay would be nice.
Side notes:
-The tap accuracy notifiers are working perfectly fine. Not sure what everyone is whining about (do you really need a rainbow array of colors for feedback? gtfo)
-16x is a good tool to have, if it's fixed and it offers no invulnerability of course. It makes the gameplay more strategic and you have to actually use your brain to deploy it at the perfect time.
-MsQueen doesn't eat ice cream, she eats PBJ sandwiches.

I think that ttr3 is such a let down from all the hype and the hopes we had.
I will start with the things that I do like:
The very difficult extreme songs are great
I love the speed that the notes come at
In app purchasing is kinda cool
Theme isn't bad (ttr2 and 1 were better)
THERE IS NOT ONE TRACE OF LAG! on my 3gs and it runs perfectly
Things I don't like or dislike:
Avatars I don't really like but that must have some appeal and was a decent idea, though I do not care too much for them
The new music isn't bad
Achievements could have been better, though they are a step up from ttr2
Things that crushed me and ruined my favourite game:
16x...really? I want ttr to feel less like guitar hero and this f*cks over the leaderboards so badly
Online, NO RANKS? and weapons...don't like it at all...locked rooms? such a pain
too many themes...I HATE em all haha
complicated menu and over-designed home screen and screen for when you finish songs
THE TAP PERFECTION INDICATORS ARE SHIT!!!! THIS WAS WHY I PLAYED TTR2 SO MUCH!!! I COULD IMPROVE AND LEADERBOARDS COULD BE COMPETITIVE!! ITS NO FUN TRYING TO IMPROVE ONCE I FC A SONG.*****************************
I had nightmares last night. TTR2 was nearly perfected and I thought that ttr3 would have been even closer to to being a perfect game! I was SO let down.
This was honestly a step down from ttr1 in my opinion. I realize that all these changes are making the game more fun for the average consumer and that this game is a GOLDMINE for tapulous. But at what cost?
I was talking with many of the best taptap players in the world last night and not a single one of us was happy about the layout, online and well...everything about the game other than the songs being hard. Poor MsQueen was hurt so bad, she had to go eat some ice cream to feel better. :'(
I think that if Ed and Zach go on their ttwp accounts and use the chat to talk to us (the biggest tapulous fans), they would learn a lot and get their act together.
I appreciate and respect all of what you guys are trying to do. I just think that it could appeal a little more to the top players (as there are soooo many of us now).
I have faith that you will make it better, as you have always fixed everything! So please listen to our cries for help. If MsQueen becomes obese and dies there may very well be a lawsuit. ;)
I’m giving it a chance but I am MORTIFIED

Inappropriate?gosh, this is not very encouraging... maybe I won't download the game...
I said when they were first mentioned that I would hate the avatars, and I've got a feeling that on my 1st gen, this game is gonna be just as laggy and droppy as ttr2, if not more than it... not to mention it would really cost me $6, as I haven't gotten system 3 yet (due to having heard sucky things about that as well)
I’m disappointed
-
Not sure about the graphics performance on older devices, but it doesn't seem any worse than TTR2 on my original iPhone or iPod Touch 2G.
The big disappointment in my opinion is that all the same issues we discussed with TTR2 still exist. In fact, I think the drops are actually worse. It's a bit harder to tell if taps are being recognized in adjacent lanes with the new theme, but I suspect that's exactly what's happening
WHY DOES THE VALID TAP AREA OF ONE LANE EXTEND INTO THE ADJACENT LANE(S)!? THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE! -
"WHY DOES THE VALID TAP AREA OF ONE LANE EXTEND INTO THE ADJACENT LANE(S)!? THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!" You know what else doesn't make sense? THE VALID TAP AREA GOES THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN, I've lost my streak FAR too many times trying to pause because of this! :( Haven't had any lag (except online) or dropped taps. (I'm on a Touch 2G) :) -
I also noticed that if a finger is touching way higher than the middle of the screen, all taps are misses! -
Inappropriate?Yeah, the online is really laggish, and I dont like the weapons that much, it doesnt always let you show your skills, same with the 16x, it almost is complete cheating.
-
Inappropriate?FEEDBACK:
- Speed of the spheres is fine it's just the rate changing not the actual timing.
- Songs ARE NOT hard enough. (excluding one or two)
- Liked it better with the more obvious colour coded timing recognition spheres.
- 16X is nice but ruins the the skill required for a deserved FC.
OVERALL: HARDER SONGS!!! -
Inappropriate? It's really funny. I like it. When I throw the bomb into successive tap and then the 1st going down.. Feel like I shoot him in da head :P
-
If you're on the first place and someone sets a bomb when it's impossible to pass it then you're pissed :P -
Im not pissed. Im laugh. This is a game play it for fun. -
Inappropriate?16x can make better score but not highest. If anyone want to be a top of Leaderboard he need to FC and think about how to place 16x for the highest score. First day I play TTR3 I think its a child game but really its not.
I tried so hard to beat Brain_t91 on "Get Crazy" even I didn't FC it and use 16x in the right place that I thought it could be but I really can't get highest score. I need to FC it and use 16x and see this is the best I can do with FC + 16x I still can't beat him..
What I want to say is " The player from TTR2 who had a good skill can play TTR3 as good as TTR2 " If you had good accuracy, Fast finger, you can play well as before another option is need to think how to use 16x in the right place and time without miss the tap. If anyone think TTR3 is for for 3 years-old kids... then try to beat Brain_t91 -
Do you really think everyone makes a plan like "on note 438, i gonna hit that 16x button". NO. It's totally luck if you get highscores like that unless you played that song about 748 times and know every sinhle note of it.
And 16x, as mentioned many times before, is just a ridiculously new feature which just makes the game easier and complicated. Easier in you can cheat up your score when hitting the button on a hard part, and complicated, because you lose the overview of the scores.
ACCURACY and SKILLS aren't the main part of the game anymore. "being social" - like sending pms (which still twinkle does 100 times better), throwing bombs and other stuff at opponents (how social LOL) and creating your own avatar, which looks pixely and just looks gay in online mode - THAT is tap tap revenge 3. -
"throwing bombs and other stuff at opponents (how social LOL)" I'm laughing my ass off!
Yeah I'm just pressing the x16 button when I know that much notes come down I'm not counting or anything.. -
I hate how there's two different leaderboards >_< i thought they replaced the arrows with taps already, so what's the point of 2 leaderboards? -
looks like someone modified the tap file xD -
LoL Maverick ... -*- -
Inappropriate?TTR3 is like the Brawl of the Super Smash Bros series (truth). You got all these hardcore Smash Bros Melee (TTR2) fanboys that are all for the competitive play and like the simple yet innovative layout, and when something new comes along and changes it they start ranting about it (see: smashboards.com for SSBB and getsatisfaction.com/tapulous for TTR3).
Then you have a larger majority of the casual players that play TTR/SSB for the fun of it and the good music, and they welcome the new changes.
Also No Items, Default Theme, Extreme Only, Final Destination.
Now I'm going to stop comparing TTR to SSB.
My biggest gripe with TTR3 is the paid music. There's just so many and I'm not going to pay for them. But this is just a personal thing, I'm sure there are a lot of people out there willing to buy all of them and I'm not going to complain. My complaint is that the few tracks that appeared in TTR2, that I still have in TTR2, I now have to purchase in TTR3.
As for the 16x, I like it, but I do think that the whole "10 second invulnerability" is pretty bogus. Especially since you can get it three times per song. That's 30 seconds of not having to worry about hitting all the taps! If Sololuna was in TTR3, no one would have a problem "FCing" it at all. If anything, a quick 1 second period of not missing taps would be enough.
Items in online play don't bother me that much. Except for when you're on an extreme song and someone uses a bomb when you're on a roll of taps and can just barely avoid it. If anything it makes online more lively, TTR2's seemed so dead in my opinion! The avatars do bother me. When I look at the side and see people's avatars on the live rankings, it means absolutely nothing to me because I don't know whose is whose. Choosing your own icons to appear in the rankings would make people much more identifiable.
The speed on extreme is ok to me. I don't get why people complain about it. The timing for the taps are exactly the same, the only difference is that you don't have six years to prepare yourself for the incoming taps like you did in the slow TTR2. It adds to the enjoyability and if you can't tap them at that speed you shouldn't be playing on extreme.
Menu is fine to me.
Avatars are fine to me, although I don't like the fact that they're used in online play in place of icons.
Oh, and another huge complaint I have is the quality of some of the tap tracks. I've seen some absolutely horrible ones that don't even match the beat of the song, and I've heard of worse ones from others. When I was playing "Sugar, We're Goin Down" on extreme for the first time, I literally stopped playing half way through the song to make sure I didn't accidentally choose Medium for the difficulty. Songs like "Louder Than Boom" seem like they just tried to throw in as many taps as possible to make an impossible track than making a tap track that matched the song at all.
But overall, I do like TTR3, and it's an improvement to TTR2 in many aspects, but some features in 3 kind of lower it's rating in my opinion, and many other's opinions. -
I agree with much you say, MajorasMask. Especially, I couldn't agree with you more about the avatars during online play. You see the avatars do-se-do-ing off to the side, and it's less than helpful. It looks like a bunch of (mostly) light-to-medium-skinned heads with (usually) darkish hair on (generally) dark backgrounds. If you were trying to keep track of yourself versus a friend, good luck with that. I'd much rather see people's user icons there and in the game waiting room. -
Inappropriate?Did anyone notice that when you play a song (a real extreme song) on ttr3 and then go back to ttr2 and play an extreme song (like heretics and killers maybe) everything seems SO SLOW. it's like super slow mo. I see everything now. It's insane. But there are so many notes it's still difficult to manage.
I’m amused and a little surprised...
-
Yeah that's true :D It's kinda funny.. -
I love the TTR3 speed though, cause now I can count how many taps I need xD -
Lol it's just something I found funny? And what about speed and countng? Lol you can also do that in ttr2 -
Inappropriate?I am not a top player but I am a top fan and supporter, and as such my opinion should count for something. I am a decent player, a diligent one, and one who
"coulda been a condenda" without some of the "improvements." Actually I'll never give up despite all the crap. If I didn't work so hard, I'd be better (you know, hours a day practicing, and stuff I will never be able to do).
I planned to say nothing negative for quite a while, because I know that it takes time to adjust to change, and because I have so much respect for Tapulous; but since everyone else has spoken up: I HATE THE AVATARS, 16x, accuracy indicators (Luis you are kind to everyone who tries sincerely but you lack compassion at times if something doesn't bother you - and come on, how much could?), especially the invulnerability, and most of all I HATE THE WEAPONS. I have the same Smash Brothers and Guitar Hero feelings mentioned earlier. I miss the stars and feeling of accomplishment that goes with them and the themes are so tedious - this started in ttr2 and I just prayed they would go away. Online ranking needs to come back.
Basically it's like this: I FEEL I HAVE BEEN SOLD OUT!!! I'll shell out bucks for songs, ok fine, but I am a serious person and this is now a baby game. I'm close to tears over it. I'm not going anywhere, but I'm very sad...
I’m miserable beyond words
-
first of all there are rooms where there are no weapons. In there there's also no 16x star. If you hate the avatars just don't use them, no one force you to use them. And why should someone be sad about that? If no one would've suggested these things before the release of TTR3 and it would've been the same as TTR2 not a single person would've been sad, right? The things you want are still there, so there's no need to complain.. -
LOL Mav actually stripped his avi in protest of them. Hottest. Avi. Ever. <3333 hahahahaha
But it is NOT the same as ttr2, regardless of expectations. -
Fine. Rooms without weapons and 16x. But what about single player
mode? Every single song has 16x. Shouldn't we use 16x because we don't like it? No that wouldn't work.
And we're NOT forced to use avatars? So ttr3 didn't force you to choose an avatar the first time you started it or what?
And who is sad about that? Read the very first post.
"The things you want are still there" - That may is true, but less is more sometimes. TTR3 could be good even without the avatar ans weapon stuff.
And Emerald hehe :) what's avi? <3 -
An Avi is a short version of "Avatar" :)
Also, read the last words of the last post of Deborah, it says " I'm very sad..." :)
Are 2 clicks to create an avatar really too much for you? -
Tbh yes! Because it just looks ugly in online mode. I mean, what's more specific/more "you" than your own profile picture? An avatar which represents you not as much as a picture of yourself :P -
some people don't want to post pics of themselves so they make avatars, is that so hard to understand? -
Some people prefer uploading a picture they like, no matter if a picture of theirselfes or a logo etc. instead of using an avatar.
If you read the whole topic again you'd see that most of the people agree with that. -
Inappropriate? Some people hate complaining. I like to complain, because once I've done it, I feel better and then Tapulous fixes some of it and the rest I get used to.
I made the most of my avatar, which I chose to be dark-skinned because my skin is fair and I just didn't want to pretend I was trying to make it look like me. I really wanted one as black as the night, but that wasn't being offered yet. Then when I put on high heeled shoes, my ankles were white, which doesn't look to cool.
Look, the things I already bitched about, plus the whole "experience points" nonense, we've all seen it on video games, and we know that it is a sales technique. Then there's the "achievements," all of this we were forewarned of in ttr2 and I pretended not to know what was coming because I couldn't face it, but now it's here and I hate the feeling of being played by the company when I just want to play the game.
However, in another post I gave up the whole thing because let's face it, Tapulous doesn't exist for our pleasure. and after I made my complaints, some of which will be addressed, I saw that they will sell it a hell of a lot better this way. I'm amazed at all the noobs online already.
One thing: PLEASE PUT THE ACCURACY INDICATORS CLOSER TO THE TARGETS because I can't see both now, as they are too far apart, and I mess up because of it.
My point though is that it's true that the game is still there, and once I got used to the weapons (they can't really do too much damage) and the avatars and the other shit I hate, I was able to ignore them pretty much and just concentrate on my game. I also found new challenges in the music. So as long as the basic game still exists I'm ok with it.
One last thing: I HATE all the themes. They are distracting. I don't care how well done they are - the Lady Gaga ones are pretty awesome - they are just a nuisance; another obstacle to overcome just to play the game, but I'm sure if they sell TTR3 they'll stay, and I'll get used to them too.
I’m getting better all the time
