Tweetsville crashes upon fetching the timeline
Bought Tweetsville yesterday and after I enter my username and password it starts to load the timeline and then it crashes on my iPhone 3G. Restarted the iPhone, reinstalled Tweetsville & even installed it on a spare iPod Touch as well but it's not working...

U.S peeps...this just worked for me..hope it does for you.
my region was already correctly set to United States, but i switched it to United Kingdom and launched Tweetsville. It worked and loaded my tweets.
I then went back to settings..switched the region back to United States and then launched Tweetsville again.
It still worked. It is now working consistently every time I launch it.
good luck.

Inappropriate?i can't reproduce this, hmm any other steps?
-
Inappropriate? It seems it's a known bug with iPhone's Region Settings. If it's set on "Greece", Tweetsville crashes upon tweets fetching. The developer said that a fix is coming!
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?ah okay. cool.
-
Inappropriate?i have this same problem. i am in the united states and my region is set accordingly. i've tried restarting the phone, and have also logged in with a different user's account that was only following a few people. the app crashes each time.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I also am in the US with region set accordingly and it crashes upon launch
Update - created a brand new twitter account, no followers, not following anyone, no image/url/description anything, tried to use it and got the same error. The twitter username is AnotherPaul - if you want to see the profile.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I'm also in the US and it crashes right after logging in and attempting to download timeline.
-
United States region btw -
Inappropriate? We are aware of the problem now, and have a fix
-
a fix that is going to require a software version update...or one that can we can perform on our devices? -
+1 for Italian settings. Exact same problem (and attempts to resolve it -- apart from the spare iPod) as described at the start of this thread. -
Inappropriate?I will post here tomorrow morning with an update on the issue, we have a fix .. not sure how it is being pushed
-
Inappropriate?well, i got it to work by changing the region set to english (US).
working great now and waiting for your fix to get back to my own settings :)
I’m excited

Inappropriate?+1 here. Changing to US region (Settings -> International -> US) from Canada works after deleting and reinstalling the application.

Inappropriate? The fix is a client change so we have to make an additional release. We are in the process of doing so.
-
I have the same problem. You know, for commercial software, even if it is only 3.99, it would be a godsent to have a support email so we can send you crashlogs which help you track down the problem. It is a funny feeling having bought an app which you can't even launch once ;-) -

Switching Regions kind of worked for me too. At least i could load the timeline once. Quiting the App, changing the Region back to Germany and relaunching the app made it crash after the first refresh of the timeline again... -
Switched from the region Germany to United Kindom. Started the app and it worked. After switching back to Germany it still works
Update: Didn't solve the problem - when I wanted to update my timeline or reload the replies the app began crashing again... -
My Regions were already set, but I went into settings and just reselected them (English/1/US), and now it's working. -
Did the same thing as Shultz and it seems to have fixed the problem (at least for now). I'll try again tonight after I sync with my laptop. -
Inappropriate?same here - iphone from orange switzerland with 2.1 software installed. It is the first app I paid for and now it doesnt work, mmh...
I’m angry

We look forward to that! I have the same problem! -
Inappropriate?First app I have so many problems with -- even in jailbreak-times before 2.x I never had such problems with an app
I’m angry
-
Inappropriate?Zach, we'll be looking for the update soon. Shame that your company couldn't see this before the first version was sent. Seems to be a pretty basic function of Twitter -- the timeline.
I’m frustrated, confused and annoyed that I wasted valuable time.
-
We apologize for any inconvenience, please bear with us as we make the update and fix any bugs. This is a site for reporting errors, please refrain from posting opinions. We are aware of the situation. -
Inappropriate?Zach: I don't think you should be telling users not to post opinions when we all just paid $3.99 for something that doesn't work. My opinion is that I''m annoyed.
-
I apologize for sounding like that, but all I meant was you are free to post your opinion anywhere but that it does not help us to post it on get satisfaction. -
And just FYI, the number of users having problems is extremely minimal compared to the total user base. -
Thanks, Zach. I've got the situation taken care of. Looking forward to the fix and trying the app. I'm sure it's great. -
Inappropriate?@Zach I don't think so...
The number of users having problem is greater than you could imagine...
HERE you will find only the "smarter" users, but for every user reporting a problem here on Get Satisfaction, there will be hundred of silent users havin' the same problem...
I’m frustrated
-
Giovy... trust me I know... but we hope you smarter users understand that when you submit updates it takes a few days to get approved. So we apologize for any frustration but there is not too much we can do immediately to remedy the situation. -
Inappropriate? If anyone has a crash log feel free to send it to z@tapulous.com that would be super handy.
-
Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem. Also happens with Twitterrific, so possibly it's twitter related? This all started happening on Nov. 12.
-
UPDATE: Toggling the region settings seems to fix the issue. -
Inappropriate?Same problem in Portugal. Toggling the region settings made it work to load the timeline but when I tryed to post it crashed. And also if I try to refresh the timeline.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?yet another frustrated user - switching back and forth between US and German settings - each time I'm back to German, the app starts crashing againg.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? The fix is coming soon guys!
-
Inappropriate? For the time being, switching from US to UK, launching the app, then switch back from UK to US worked for me.
I’m glad
-
Inappropriate?crashing in the same place and i'm a UK user... still having to use twitterific...
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Tweetsville crashes 2 issues
1.when enter username and password and fetch timeline (first time launch Tweetsville)
or
2.when you quit Tweetsville (first time work) and relaunch Tweetsville. It's automatic fetch timeline (no need to enter username and password)
both issue can fix by set permission "database.db" inside Tweetsville Documents folder -
Inappropriate? This is getting ridiculous. It's been more than a week since I purchased this app and haven't been able to use it even once. I keep checking for updates daily but nothing tweetsville specific appears. You guys keep saying its been submitted and all but the weird thing is that other applications with updates submitted after yours (eg, tap tap 1.5.1) have already made its way onto the appstore...
I’m pissed off
-
Standing ovation for Boris... and I'm going to post a very, very negative review on the AppStore for this application, to let people know (and save money). -
@Giovy: i've allready reviewed and warned users in the swedish appstore that the app doesn't work. -
@Giovy: i've allready reviewed and warned users in the swedish appstore that the app doesn't work. -
We cannot control the apple review process.. I am sorry for the delay in it being accepted. -
Inappropriate?Don't forget to update the review when the update arrives and hopefully fixes the problem...
I’m living with wrong regions and it works somehow
-
Inappropriate?Zach while I agree you cannot control the apple review process I recommend you feedback something to them cause it simply doesn't make sense.
Look at this app called "Night Camera". Released on Nov 16 and mind you at least works and 2 days later a feature is added and on Nov 19 gets added to the system. If you do not believe me check it out here.
http://appshopper.com/photography/nig...
Now on the other hand you have tweetsville which doesn't even start, released on the 12th and till today no updates at all.
http://appshopper.com/social-networki...
Given the fact that Tapulous has made a few successful apps for the iPhone (1 of which apple uses in its ads frequently) I find it very hard to believe that you do not have the ability to rush this update through especially since this would be considered a critical update.
Does the fault really lie with the apple updating process or you guys?
I’m confused
-
We have submitted the application days ago, I promise you that. The review process is a mystery. -
all the app programers are complaining about apple and the delay until updates are available in the app store. BUT: why not testing better and releasing a few days later?! never heard about testing? especially if you are SELLING the app.... anyway, we are WAITING. see my posting in German here http://www.flog.in/stories/5333331 -
Inappropriate?also waiting.
(note to self: never buy anything from tapulous before LOADS of research again)
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate? The update came out yesterday just that with the new 2.2 software the update servers are being hammered and you are not promoted. Search for tweetsville in appstore and re-download it. It will detect it as a previous purchase, not charge you, and update accordingly.
BUT since the start of today (where I updated to iphone 2.2) the only app to keep crashing over and over again is tweetsville. I mean come on? The guy who coded this actually got a job back in apple and is now working in the itunes department?
The software is buggy as hell. Nothing has crashed since 2.2 came out and now you are going to ask me to wait another 2 weeks for a tweetsville update?
I'm sorry guys but I'm going to have to try tweetie out first.
But I'm impressed with the way u guys reply (zach & ed) and that is with manners.
I'm sorry but this app needs a complete rewrite.
I’m frustrated
-
I am sorry to hear that you are still seeing frequent crashes, we have done a bunch of testing internally (even 2.2) on tweetsville. I am trying to find a common tie between everyone posting in this thread as I cannot reproduce the crash for the life of me! -
i'm also still having issues with tweetsville, and still on 2.1 (waiting for jailbreak). could this have any implication ??
it's also the only one that keeps crashing, and i'm also impressed with the team's replies... -

Inappropriate?I'm another one with the same problem. Tweetsville worked fine when i first installed it after a day it started to crash when calling the timeline. I uninstalled and reinstalled and again it was fine for a day but once again it crashes each time it finally loads my timeline. Sometimes it'll load but the moment I try to scroll in the timeline poof it crashes.
Although on 41 report the problem on Get Satisfaction if you look here http://search.twitter.com/search?q=tw... you can see the more problem is more widespread.
Personally I really like the promise of this app but I'm anxiously waiting for an update.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? As someone who had the crashing problem and was never able to even try the app before 3 a.m. this morning, it's working.
To make it work, I needed to remove it from my iPhone and redownload. Since you've already purchased it, you'll get a message that you can redownload it for free.
At that point, it worked.
However, I'm reading on other boards that folks have done exactly what I have done and the problem returns.
If this happens to me, I will delete the app from my iPhone and never speak or think of it again. So here's hoping for the best.
Please try deleting the app and redownloading it if you haven't already and I wish you the best. -
Inappropriate? Thanks will try this one. if it doesn't work I want my money back.
Thomas
I’m disappointed
-
Ideally if it doesn't work you can forward over a crash log to z@tapulous.com the more information we have, the more likely we are able to determine where the issue is. We have been seeing a lot of out of memory errors, which means users haven't restarted their phones in a while. -
Inappropriate?Everyone make sure they get tweetsville 1.1, it appears that the 2.2 update to the iphone is bogging down their update servers so you may not get notified of the tweetsville 1.1 update.
-
Mind sharing a crash log with us? -
Inappropriate? If anyone could send us their crash logs, it would really help us sort out this sporadic, yet annoying bug. Please send them to ed@tapulous.com
-
Inappropriate?OK, I was having the crash upon loading timeline issue prior to the 1.1 app update. After the update, it worked fine.
However, after loading the iPhone 2.2 update today, when I scroll quickly through the timeline, it crashes. If I scroll slowly through the timeline its fine.
Also, how does one find the crash log?
Thanks. -
This is a good tutorial on getting crash logs http://www.ispeeddial.com/how-to-find... -
Have you restarted since 2.2 -
OK, I need to amend my discription. Speed of scrolling does not matter. It is getting down to a certain point in the timeline then it crashes. I restarted my iPhone and was able to duplicate the problem.
Also, I am not finding a MobileDevice folder the the crash log area. -
Can you go on real twitter and find the post that is killing it? -
OK, found the crash log. Was looking in the root library folder, not my user library folder. Sent it to the e-mail address requested. Yes, i can find that post/posts. Also, I unloaded/re-loaded Tweetsville on the iPhone with same results. -
Inappropriate? Why does one has to restart after updating to 2.2 -- isn't restarting part of the update-process?
-
Probably... but they may have opened a bunch of other apps prior to tweetsville. -
Inappropriate?I have version 1.1 and just updated to iPhone 2.2 and Tweetsville crashes upon startup. I can't even get the app to start up to change the location setting. This is very frustrating.
I’m mad
-
That's wacky behavior, would you mind just trying wiping out the app and reinstalling it? If you do, let us know how that goes! -

Inappropriate?Dear tapulous- how can I get a refund? I just paid for software which hasn't worked for me at all- and if you're looking for your _paying_ customers do act as live beta testers- and make them pay for it is unethical and bad business. Please refund my 4 bucks.
I’m incredibly frustrated
-
Like we have previously said, we can not issue refunds. We are not using live users as beta testers and have launched this app in partnership with an external developer. We are doing our best to get updated code in to resolve any issues you may be having. -
really we're not your beta users? Then why are you asking all of us to send in crash logs? And why does this thread have so many people sharing the same frustrations? The fact that your application won't even load on a vanilla iphone with limited apps installed should be reason enough for you to refund my money. I paid for a product- a product you have yet to deliver (an application that I can manage my twitter account). I mean _THE APP WON"T EVEN LAUNCH_ -
No, you are not. We have a beta team that tested the application and we tested the application internally. We were unable produce the same crashes as many users in this thread are seeing. Release 1.1 fixed some issues that we were able to find via crash logs, which our more helpful users willingly sent to us. If you would like to help us identify the lingering issues, we would be more than appreciative. -
Turmeric, when you bought the App, you received an invoice which contains a Link to "Report a Problem". Use this link to request a refund from Apple. Apple is charging, so you need to contact them for refunds which will eventually show them, that the Appstore urgently needs a way to download Demo Apps prior to a purchase. Some people had success getting refunds from Apple already. -
Inappropriate?Just wanted to offer some good news to contrast all the complaining: Tweetsville works great for me after the upgrade! Crashing on loading the timeline all gone.
Well done, guys! Thanks a lot!
~G
I’m happy!

Thanks simplygrey! -
Inappropriate?Ed, Zach (and others)
I've still got crashes. Running 2.2 with clean install of Tweetsville on a 3G iPhone.
I think I've found a pattern with when Tweetsville tanks on the timeline (at least for me). I follow @mashable and EVERY time one of his posts shows up in the timeline Tweetsville doesn't seem able to render the post in "timeline view". It's even more apparent if you switch from timeline view to the detailed poster view (double tap on any visible post and scroll up/down with arrows at top right), but it's quite obvious that something is not interpreted right because no information fills that form.
So, since I'm not gonna stop following @mashable, I'll continue using other twitter tools and check back here to see if the following things are confirmed:
1. others who follow see the same (or similar pattern) in which tweets cause Tweetsville to tank. @mashable may not be the only poster, nor could it be anything in his post. it just seems that of the 200 posts that I looked at just a second ago, the ONLY ones with missing data in the detailed view are from him.
2. A CLEAR explanation for what is causing the problem is described by Tapulous, just so I can rest easy knowing what the problem was and that it didn't just "magically" go away. I write software as well and problems that just disappear by themselves are VERY suspicious ;-)
3. some more robust error-checking for when Tweetsville encounters a "strange" tweet and flags it gracefully instead of tanking.
I'm willing to provide logs if you can describe to me how/where to find them. I have SSH access to my iPhone and know my way around the command line fairly well.
You can try replicating this by following @mashable, or inspecting the XML structure for his tweets. I doubt it's something terribly wrong since all my other twitter tools on the iPhone digest his tweets just fine.
d me if you have questions or comments.
Other folks, I'd like to know if you guys see similar patterns ?
Cheers,
@FrankSnyder
I’m hoping to help debug this
