Twinkle Hijacks Twitter Usernames - Unacceptable
Someone is using my Twitter name on Twinkle therefore I am getting flooded with @messages to her in my Twitter account. She's not even on Twitter so I can't message her at all anyway. I have no way of finding out who she is or, indeed, of contacting her at all.
This is completely unacceptable, Twinkle. You can't release something that effectively hijacks someone else's account on a completely different service.
Sort. It. Out.

Inappropriate?I agree that this is a serious issue. I was lucky enough to secure the same name on both services, but I have received replies from confused people wondering where I came from and what I'm talking about.
I have turned off the local feature completely on twinkle and just use it for a twitter client with the people I already know because as far as I'm concerned, Tapulous has failed on the most fundamental basics that should have been addressed. Some of the features are amazing and way ahead of the game, but when those basics arent there then what's the point?
Give me blocking ability. Separate Twinkle/Twitter. Let me click through @names.
Its pretty sad when I still have to go to the web client to perform these functions.
I’m tired of having to complain about these things.

Inappropriate?I just registered a Twinkle account solely to ensure nobody else snagged my Twitter username. Now back to Twitterific.
Tapulous: failing to separate your system and Twitter is a serious problem.
I’m astonished this wasn't caught in testing.
-
Inappropriate?I totally agree.
I used to have the same username for both, but now that I have been able to get the original twitter username I wanted (the person who had it was inactive for over a year and a half, so twitter gave it to me) my accounts no longer match. I tried canceling my tapulous account and signing back up with my new twitter name, but surprise! Someone already has it.
There's no way I'm changing my twitter username back just so it matches twinkle, and I'm afraid I'll start getting @replies from twinkle that shouldn't be coming to me.
Why doesn't twinkle just use our twitter account info and avoid all this trouble? As more and more people start using twitter and twinkle, the more this is going to become a problem.
Giagia is right: Twinkle, you need to get this sorted out.
I’m pissed, and wonder why Twinkle didn't seem to see this coming.

Inappropriate?this is also happening to my friend. She signed up for a twinkle account and now her pings are showing the twitter user with the same name and all his updates. Can someone let us know how to fix this?
This looks like an old thread that hasn't been touched but it seems to be a serious problem!
I’m very worried about this!
-
Inappropriate? You're right, this IS an old thread. Why hasn't anyone from Tapulous even addressed us on here yet?
What worries me is that it may be something we have to deal with. I mean, what are they going to do? In order to fix the situation they will have to tell Twinkle users that don't own the corresponding Twitter username that their account is going to be deleted so that it can go to the Twitter user. And even though this whole thing is Tapulous's fault, they're not going to want to piss off a bunch of their Twinkle users.
I think they should do away with the separate Tapulous username and make people use their Twitter account for Twinkle. I know Twinkle functions as a stand-alone platform on the iPhone/iTouch, but its mainly a Twitter client and should function as one.
I’m angry and frustrated.

Inappropriate?A great deal of Twinkle users do not have a Twitter account. To fix the problem, tweets now only go through the associated twitter account. If you're still seeing problems like this. Please let us know.

Inappropriate?Ed., thanks for responding. The main problem here is that because you recreated the namespace, yet still use Twitter as the channel AND use @ as the identifiers, there can (and are) duplicate people being addressed now when you say, for example, @ed.
Frankly, I feel this is pretty irresponsible product design and disappointing from a company that puts out great, well thought out products. Why would you have people Twitter "@" replies from your system to Non-Twitter names?
My suggestion would be if someone is replying via Twinkle to a Twinkle-only user, it either doesn't go through Twitter at all or doesn't use the @ syntax.
I’m annoyed and disappointed.

Inappropriate? The need to create a Tapulous account in the first place is the biggest reason why I've finally just deleted Twinkle from my iPhone and purchased Tweetie instead. Frankly, I don't want a Tapulous account. I have a Twitter account, isn't that enough?
And this hijacking business is ridiculous. It's a shame, because Twinkle was the best Twitter app around for a long time, and though it was free, I would've paid for it.
I’m annoyed
