Twinkle not locating me
it's "Attempting to locate" me but it hasnt in over an hour. Are Twinkle servers down? or is there something horribly wrong with my phone. I just restored twice, so if its not Twinkle or Tapulous servers... its hardware failure which is bad.
I should also mention that every router in my house is in the SkyHook database (so locating me should pretty much be instant).

FIXED! Hey guys its not the App! IT's Skywook/Your wireless network. Skyhook is the GPS that finds u on a iPod touch,(More info on Skyhook below*) but Skyhook is Wi-fi GPS so your network your on is probably not in Skyhooks database.
But don't Worry! you can add your Network to Skyhook so when u and other people use it, it will locate you! Here's the website to add your location: http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitw...
*Apple uses Skyhook for iPhone and iPod touch to find you in ALL of the applications that uses GPS or as Skyhook calls there Wi-Fi GPS, WPS. But they hire drivers that have GPSes and Wi-Fi routers to find Wi-Fi spots in United States Metro areas, See coverage area here: http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitw...
Those are just areas they have found but add yours with the link above this link.
Now iPhone use the WPS (Wi-Fi Positioning System), GPS (only on 3G), and Cellular Towers for your network (Network as in cellular provider)

I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?same here... it cant find my location and I'm in a pretty big city.
-
Inappropriate?I've had a few problems with Twinkle saying I'm somewhere I used to be. My solution was to go to the maps app to check my location and then back to Twinkle - seems to work for me.
-
Inappropriate?I can't get it to locate me either! And it's preety much useless with out a location. I live in a small rural town in michigan but I don't think that's the problem. Is there anything I can do or should I just wait for an update?
I’m Confused and frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Killer is right... go to maps and get current location - then return to Twinkle and it should know where you are... works for a temporary fix.
I’m confident it will be addressed
-
Inappropriate?I tried using maps to locate me and it couldn't find me either!!!! Now what do I do?
I’m very angry
-
Inappropriate?I am either on Edge or Wi-Fi with my "Old iPhone" - works great. Upon my last use, I was in Encinitas, CA on Edge - just started the app on Wi-Fi and saw it refresh to Riverside, CA-ish (nobody Twinkle's in Temecula).
Is everyone here having problems on iPod Touch or 3G? Provide as much detail as you can so the Tapulous team can help.
I’m Brand new free app - very cool new take on Web social interaction - beautiful interface - for me, Twinkle is a welcome app.
-
Inappropriate?does anyone know what to do when it doesn't show anything at all? It just keeps saying that it's trying to locate me and failing!
I’m Getting fed-up!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Inappropriate?oh I should probably add that I have an iPod touch!

Inappropriate?Yes you do! its comes on ur iPhone/iPod touch follow the link: http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitw...
And then fill it out and then in a few weeks it should work.
Skyhook has partnered up with Apple and uses WPS in there devices, so no need to install or anything.

Inappropriate?Nice one jarhead, that was really easy to fix although I've got to wait a while for it to really work. Shame it doesn't work a bit sooner.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?yeah Skyhook has to take your MAC code (individual code for a Router) and your wireless network plus where you are and put you there. Now it took a while for it to work for me, so far all 3rd party apps work for it but Maps seems not to but idk y. Also they are lazy so they don't give u your EXACT loaction but pretty close.
-
Inappropriate?how do I find the mac ID??? I tried to follow the link that explains is but I still couldn't find it!
I’m anxious
-
It's on your wireless router. Do you have a wireless router? -
I thought u said all iPod touches had their own wireless sky hook, I do have a wireless router but it's not skyhook... -
Ok, look at the video on http://skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/ it will explian. any wireless router can do it, it doesn't matter. just look @ the video. -
Inappropriate?I just submitted my info to Skyhook.. but i doubt it helps. I turned off wifi and had it locate me and it's STILL saying i'm in PA!!
-
Well if you read the Email skyhook sent to you, it said it will be at least 2-3 dys b4 they get it in there database then it takes about a couple of weeks (Depending on when Apple checks for new locations from SH) and they put it to your device, or at least should.
Bow I submited my location b/c Maps wasn't finding me but, after they got my location Maps still can't find me but all 3rd Party apps can, my guess is Apple whenever they come out with a new update they add the new locations to it. -
Inappropriate?Twinkle was unable to find me last night or this morning. I did my usual fix of going into maps but it turned out to be a more general problem as even maps couldn't locate me. After a bit of tweaking everything's fine now. If Twinkle can't find you, try locating yourself in maps first, failing that, shout at it very loudly (doesn't solve it but gets rid of some of the stress!)
-
Well if you submit your location to Skyhook in a few weeks it should work. Now one setback is that Maps is a Apple app (duh) and will not be able to find your location, most likely, when your only connected to that wi-fi, but all 3rd party apps should work ok with finding you. I don't know when Apple updates there Maps app with new locations so Maps may not be your #1 location finder when using wi-fi. -
Inappropriate? How do you find the MAC id for the iPhone? I'm not using my router. I'm still using Edge.
-
Well you can't submit your location if your not using a wi-fi network, Which do u have iPhone or 3G? -
I'm on the first gen iPhone using the Edge network. There are very few wifi spots at my location. Edge worked well with Twinkle's location finder until about a week ago. -
Well try using 3G if there is anythere, But I think when you turn off 3G to save battery it turns the GPS off. B/c it should locate you no matter what unless ur inside. GPS does't work inside WPS does. -
Inappropriate?I'm STILL getting the same thing. I sent my MAC Address over a month ago. Wifi, it still says i'm in PA. I turn off Wifi and it ONLY locates me when i open the Map.app first, then Twinkle. This is a total joke of an app. WTF. I turn on Wifi on ANY other app i use, and it locates me perfectly.. this app can't locate me even with Wifi turned off.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I know I sent mine in a while ago, But in the message Skyhook sent, it said that it takes THEM like 2 weeks, and that the DEVELOPER (Apple) has to update THERE database to get the info. All i can suggest is to go to Mc. Donald's (or some place with wi-fi that has a skyhook location attached to it) and locate yourself in Maps then use Twinkle or any other app with WPS.
Here's the catch DO NOT go on Maps and locate yourself if your on your home network or your location will be lost (The one you got @ Mc'y D's or where ever). The 3rd party location feature is built off Maps so when u find a location in there it stays till updated. Get it?
-
Inappropriate?Well, it won't even locate me on 3g or Edge. Nothing works unless i open the map.app first and locate myself. If i try on Wifi, it's wrong location. Any other app i use i can locate myself on Edge, 3g and Wifi. I just don't get the problem. The MAC Address seems like a good reason for Wifi.. but why the others?
-
Mhhmm... I think it MAY be Twinkle and hopefully they will fix this soon.... really I don't see why it would do this.. -
I'm not exactly sure why that would be happening. Try deleting and redownloading the app from the appstore -
I went further than that.. i restored. Still does it. ONLY Twinkle won't locate me without going into the Maps app first. Wifi is hopeless, Edge/3g is the same without first locating myself on Maps.app =[ -
Hm, alright. Sorry that's not working for you. We're looking into that for the next twinkle. -
Inappropriate?I have an IPod Touch and I submitted MAC and location to skyhook about 3 months ago, and they havn't added me yet. So I think Apple should rethink that whole skyhook thing...
I’m frustrated with skyhook.
-
Well wt do u suggest they add a GPS to the iPod touch! yeah think of that the iPod from being tiny to kind a bigger -
Adding a GPS to the iPod touch would be sweet. I'd buy one. -
Me two, only problem, like i said, it would be bigger and more expensive. -
It wouldn't get bigger than an IPhone, and it shouldn't cost that much if the 16GB 3G is only $300. Maybe we should start a petition! -
Do it. totally. I'd buy one. -
Inappropriate?true dat
-
Inappropriate?I'm using an iPhone and its the 3G networking. So I highly doubt if its just WiFi.
I’m anxious
