Twinkle update missing my @ replies in nearby/

I downloaded the twinkle 1.3 update this morning and am totally confused. Only a small fraction of the people I'm following are listed as friends even though I'm still getting all the updates in home. Even more confusing is the fact that none of my @replies from me or to me are appearing in my nearby page which makes it harder to follow what was said. I can see @tweets to/from other users, so why can't I see my own?
The map is a slightly interesting feature but would be more useful if the distance matched the one on the nearby page.
