When precisely is the perfect moment to tap the beat?
in tap tap when is the perfect time to tap on the beat? i know the tutorial says when its passing the white line... is there a more exact moment that could be given? i noticed that you receive a different score on each beat [50,75,150] for how accurate you are to the exact moment you're supposed to tap; i believe the multipliers also rely on syncing the perfect tap on beat for a number of times[knowing how many perfect taps it takes to receive a multiplier would be helpful as well]. just a little more clarity about timing would be great along with a more thorough tutorial.

This is always the biggest problem with rhythm games. Syncing is always an issue because of delays in hardware (aka speed of sound vs speed of light), so it's sometimes difficult to get songs to match up nicely with what buttons are supposed to be pressed.
I've also had the problem of finding the window on this game, and being a long time rhythm game player (Read: DDR, ITG, PIU, IIDX), it really frustrates me that although you can obtain different point values for hitting a circle at a certain time, there is no indicator as to how close you were to the ideal value for each note.
No rhythm game is ever synced perfectly, and it's up to the user to be able to determine just how early or late a song is in comparison with its chart, whether it be just a tiny bit early, or even really late. Without some form of visual cue as to how accurately you hit each note, you're really just stumbling in the dark, hoping that you're getting that 150 points on every note, when in most cases you aren't, due of course to syncing and its inherent imperfection.
In short, visual cues need to be added to each corresponding point value, whether it be like other rhythm games do it with "Perfect", "Great", simply flashing the point value obtained (Preferably with different colors), or in some other unique way.

Inappropriate?my feeling is rather than match the moment it hits the line you should listen to the beat and take that as your cue
-
I changed my mind. I now follow the visual clues more than the beat in the music.
Sometimes I even play with no sound at all and get a higher score that way.
I still feel though that it's hard to hit the notes perfectly -

Inappropriate?Perfect response from Nightmare. Some indication of the actual match to the desired timing is desperately needed. There may be problems with synchronization, as well, which could be more-easily identified and communicated, if this were the case (e.g. I *know* I tapped right as the dot intersected the line; but the game didn't register it at all)
Some taps require hitting them on the beat, others require syncopation - but some seem to be completely unrelated to the beat of the song (e.g. "Sad But True" - half the song has dots which intersect the line at ~.25 sec after the beat)
Barring problems which need to be addressed, at least having some visual cue as to what is expected, and how the user has done, would be helpful.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Thank you! then I'm not the only one with the feeling that there's something wrong with Sad But True especially.
It might even be out of sync with several beats. Some taps seem to be meant to follow the horns but are several beats behind IMHO.
I’m unsure

Inappropriate?I have to agree. I have been playing TTR every chance I get, and yet when I play against my husband, who's played maybe 3 times, he beats me. we are tapping at the same time, and sometimes I can see that's he's off, but he's consistently getting a better score for those times we're tapping together and it's driving me crazy -- what is he doing that i'm not doing? i can't figure it out! grrrr. (also glad to know someone else thinks 'sad but true' is off -- there's rhythms in there that are coming AFTER the rhythms in the song, it's gotta be messed up!)

Inappropriate?maybe someone could just answer the question?
I think that the best time to hit the bubbles is when they are exactly halfway across the white line, no matter how long your lag me be behind the audio. If you noticed there are slight visual clues, such as a sort of electric explosion to let you know when you have hit a note correctly or the line that the bubbles travel on that electrically charges after you have hit a certain amount of notes correctly and turns back to nomal when you don't get a note just right, obviously when you miss a note completely it flashes MISS. What I would like to know is when exactly you get 150 pts for the bubble, how many notes to a X2/X4 multiplier and how many to get a line charged?
I’m sidetracked
-
Inappropriate? Thanks, afregoso - but that was part of our point: There are several problems with the behavior of recognizing the correct point to tap - even without the issue with audio being unsyncronized. Note that the little explosion when you tap is sometimes displayed even when your tap is far off the "optimal" time. The visual cues and "certain number of notes" are exactly the data we're looking for confirmation regarding, as well.
As far as you're statements & questions:
- max score (150, 300, or 600) is given if the dot is exactly intersecting the line when you tap (...and is actually recognized at that point)
- apparently, 10 successful hits to increase to 2x, another 10 to increase to 4x (but again, "successful" is currently a problem in several cases)
- no idea on the "line charged" displays; I agree that this needs to be clarified by the developers
(See the other threads regarding "stuttering", etc. for related concerns)
I'm *really* hopeful that these problems will be addressed for the 1.2 update. This is a GREAT game, but the problems apparent due to the inconsistent scoring, unsynchronized audio, etc. make it frustrating to play.
I’m hopeful

Thanks. -
Inappropriate?1.2 has received a number of tweaks under the hood which should result in far smoother play.
As to the OP's question, there is an "exact" correct moment to tap, which is programmed into the track by our music wizard, and that's the point when the bubble 'pops' on the line. That'll score you 150 points, but there's a buffer on either side of that (for early tappers and late tappers) with lower score values. -
Inappropriate? The "point when the bubble 'pops' on the line" meaning when the bubble is tangent to the line (i.e., a real bubble would pop when touched, not when it was half-way through the surface it has come into contact with)?
I’m un-enlightened but seeking clarification

Inappropriate?i find that i go with the colours of the circles, if it's green when i hit it then i know i've pretty much got maximum points for it, if it's blue then i know i hit it but have to adjust my timing to the beat and if the circle turns red then i know i've completely messed it up, there are other shades of colours that the circles go and i just try to get the rhythm from them and not necessarily from the music

Look that this question was made 1 year ago, on that time there were no circle-colours. -
Inappropriate? The perfect time is when the ball is halfway through the white line. You can always tell how you did on a note. By the color of the tapper box. Green-150 blue-75 orange-50

Inappropriate? The beats vary, especially with the new themes that Tapulous has for almost every new Tap Tap Thursday themed track. Ususally you will find, especially with the new themed tracks that if you listen to the song a few times, then play the song, tap along with the beat and you will mostly get a perfect score for that tap. With the reglar songs that don't have a theme, just tap when the bubble gets inside of the circle. You will know if you get a perfect score for that tap because the circle icon will turn green, which means a perfect score for that tap. Also, you will know if you have missed a note or hit a note and not gotten any points for that note because if that happens, the circle will turn red.
I’m confident

Inappropriate? If you look closely at the screenshots at TTR3 there is now accuracy indicators and a 16x??? Maybe if you tap 50 notes with perfect accuracy?
-
Inappropriate? Some songs are fantastically SPOT ON beat wise. Those songs I enjoy immensely playing in Extreme. But some songs, one particular song in the Killers pack (forgot the name) is off by a constant tiny, amount. I get spot on taps for all the other songs, but for this same song, I'm always that one notch too early. Annoys me to no end.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Yeah this is tough for me. I'm a professional musician, and playing TTR3 has become an awesome treat in the past week or so since I downloaded it (I've never tried any of the other tap tap games, and only played Guitar Hero or Rock Band once or twice, so it took some getting used to.) But already I'm to the point where I can play most songs on Easy, Medium, and Hard at 100% accuracy. Still working on Extreme, but I really love Metallica's Fuel - it just FEELS right.
Yet even at 100% accuracy and being in Revenge Mode the whole time and (I think) using the 16x buttons strategically, I'm still less than half the score of the top tens of any given song. I think it's because I'm consistently a little early on most notes... but on most songs, a little "early" IS on the beat. To consistently hit the "perfect", I have to be just a hair BEHIND the beat, and that's really hard to stay in the groove. You almost have to feel like you're trying to "slow down" the rest of the band. But it's much harder for me to hit "100% accuracy" when I'm playing to the lights instead of the beat, because I can't get into the feel of the song.
So, I can either play for fun, in which I'm getting 100% accuracy and I KNOW I'm in beat, or play it like a challenge, which isn't as fun, because it's not really in sync, and I just feel like I'm tapping lights instead of playing an instrument.
Anyone else feel this way? (I'm wondering if it's partly because musicians instinctively DO play every note just a hair in advance of the beat in real life, because that microsecond between the action and the sound making it to the amp means being in perfect time means being a tiny bit early... or, if taptap is just slightly off sync. It'd be nice if there was a fine-tuning sync control!!)
-
Inappropriate?what i think is that because of the graphics and maybe because of all the info push the iphone does at the same time like when getting a text or email, throws off the game and makes it lag. im a musician too and it is pretty frustrating when ur almost done with the song with 100% accuracy and last moment u lose it due to something like that
I’m ehhh
-
Inappropriate?Well, as I've experimented, it depends what device you have.
I'm also a musician (^^) and I've found that on my old broken dying 1g iPod Touch it is badly out of sync. Though, I just bought a 3g new awesome iPod Touch and it is just complete euphoria playing on it. Most of the songs (except perhaps a few) are synced perfectly.
Flow chart for emphasis:
Tap Tap Revenge 1: Only by visual means. Played 75% of the times without sound, made many highscores without sound at all.
Tap Tap Revenge 2: Sometimes by sound, and sometimes by visual means. Usually played with sound, but sometimes did not listen for accuracy.
Tap Tap Revenge 3: ONLY by sound, never by visual means. It is highly accurate and very enjoyable. I tried playing twice without sound and I failed.
So in short, Tapulous are getting better and better in making apps.
Also, they're screwing people with older and older iPod/iPhones.
