Four months ago I purchased an outdoor patio set from Target. The finish is white baked enamel. After a few months the chair finish began to yellow so now I have a pristine white table and yellow chairs. I had thrown out the receipt. I spoke to the store manager about the obvious manufacturer defect. He fed the sets SKU into the computer against my card and he told me about Target's 90 days return policy. I called the 1-800 Target number and politely listened to the guy he tell me about Target's 90 return day policy. I called again and asked for the name of the manufacturer, explaining this was a defect in the manufacturer. I politely listened as the woman told me about Target's 90 day return policy, but I was able to get the manufacturer's name--something obscure like ABC. The 1-800 rep had no idea how to contact ABC. I emailed Target sending photos of the set and explaining the problem. Before I could push "send" I heard back from Target about their 90 day return policy. I emailed again and this time got a real person, not a parrot. The real person actually looked at the photos, saw that it was indeed a manufacturer defect and less than one week later I had a set of replacement chairs delivered to my home by the manufacturer.

I'm happy.

I'm writing to inform you that a small group of Target customers have banded together at GetSatisfaction.com, a customer-driven website that aims at directly communicating with businesses and companies. Target is among other great companies like Google, Pandora, YouTube, and more.

As a former Target employee, I think this is a great opportunity for Target to directly work with customers to resolve complaints as well as broadcast news, ideas, and information to interested Target customers.

This doesn't always have to be about problems or concerns you have with Target. If you were "wowed" by someone at your recent visit to a Target store, share that with the corporation as positive feedback, and let them know what they're doing RIGHT, as well as where they could improve.

I read this quote in the NY Times today, from a Bay Area mom frustrated by not being able to find a Wii for her daughter's Christmas present:

“I’ve also been to Target,” she said, but when she asked for a Wii, she felt like the employees were mocking her. “I’ve received the smirks and the laughs.”
