Sprint PCS and Short Codes?

We just set up several groups with Tatango. My friends who have Sprint are having problems texting in the short code to sign up for the groups - Sprint is either refusing to let them type a combo of letters and numbers or asking for a ten digit code? Do you know what the process is to join the group via cell phone with Sprint?
