Test build of Hyperspaces 1.0 beta 8 is available
HI EVERYBODY!
OK, that was a bit intense - let's take it back a notch.
I've been working on a pretty major update to Hyperspaces over the last few weeks, and it's finally in a state where I am happy to let you guys try it out. It won't be pushed out via software update yet, but I'd love if you could download it and try it out:

Release notes
I'd like to release Hyperspaces 1.0 very shortly, so please spend a bit of time using this new build and if you come across problems please, report them to support@thecocoabots.com!.
Hyperspaces is now also on Twitter - just follow hyperspaces for updates.
MacHeist users will (as always) need to send me an e-mail at support@thecocoabots.com or direct message the twitter account for a link to their updated build.

Release notes
- Experimental support for Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6);
- Fixes the "missing arrow keys" problem;
- Next/Previous space hotkeys will now wrap from the first space to the last space, and vice versa;
- Completely redesigned preferences - I'm trying to make things as straight forward as possible. I'd love your comments!
- Hyperspaces can now be shown in the Dock, and hidden in the status bar;
- Experimental support for setting the system desktop picture - this is not set by default, and not completely ready. Many thanks to Joe Ranieri for the reverse engineering fu that happened here!
- Restored the ability to turn the menu bar transparency on and off for each space;
- Many other minor fixes and optimisations!

Please let me know if everything works as you'd expect - all I'm waiting on to release this build properly is some feedback from you guys :) -
Inappropriate?I have been using Hyperspaces for about a week now. I am very satisfied with how it works (naming spaces was my biggest want!). I am testing on a Mac Mini and a MacBook Pro and it seems to be very stable. The only thing I see that would be nice to have is the ability to change the Hyperspaces Finder Menu bar position.
-
You can do this by building up an Applescript which triggers your menubar apps with a small delay in the order you want them to appear on the menubar.
Noe clear everything from the startup menu in your user account and just add your script in as an startup item.
__________________________________________________________
Notes:
• you will never be able to change the position in Hyperspaces itself
• the only you can change are the apple icons by holding ⌥+⌘ and
click moving them -
pattulus is correct - there's no public way to make standard status icons (like the one used by Hyperspaces) behave like Apple's status icons do.
It's a shame - it's quite nifty! -
Inappropriate?I use iClock Pro by ScriptSoftware and they've somehow managed to make Command-click moving of their finder menu bar items work...
-
IStat Menus do this aswell -
Yep, they do under Leopard. I'll leave that statement cryptic until September and the release of another big cat.
Short answer - if I can find a way, I will - but Hyperspaces isn't currently the type of application that can take advantage of this functionality, even under Leopard. It was a design decision from my side - I'm trying to stick to published APIs wherever it's possible. -
This would be nice to have... This app already does what I was looking for. Great job and Thanks! :-) -
Inappropriate?the other bug I found was the translucent menu bar was messed up but now in the new build it's working great!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I have to say in the new build I am having this recurrent problem. I have Hyperspaces in the dock, whenever I start the computer if I click on the hyperspaces icon the computer freezes some times it will take a while to get back to normal but some times I have to restart the computer! any ideas why is this happening?
thanks
I’m frustrated
-
Would you mind going to Hyperspaces' preferences and changing the "Clicking on the dock icon" setting to be "Nothing"? I'd be interested if that fixes the problem. -
Inappropriate?yep! thank you, it doesn't freeze now. The only problem left now is that it take's a little while to respond the first time, even if the computer was started 10-15 min before and I have Hyperspaces set up to start at login. Also, the shortcut won't respond the first time, I have to go to the menu bar and switch to another space from there at least once. Once I do that, the short cuts will work just fine.
I’m thankful
-
Hi Aura - what type of Mac are you running on, and what's the speed/RAM/etc? -
Inappropriate?MacBook 4Gb 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
-
Inappropriate?If this helps, I think I had a similar problem when I had Spaces only (not Hyperspaces) so it might have something to do with the Spaces program
-
It does (kind of) help. If it's happening with Spaces, it will happen with Hyperspaces.
Hyperspaces sits on top of Apple's Spaces and requires it to work, so if the problem is happening with Hyperspaces active I don't think there's anything I can do to help you. It's an awfully odd problem though - I've heard of Spaces taking a few extra seconds to get going, but not 10-15 minutes! Might be worth looking at what else is starting up on your Mac - there may be something else that's conflicting or consuming excessive resources. -
Inappropriate?sorry for the missunderstanding, I said that even if the computer has been started for 10-15 min it would not make a difference, the first time to use Spaces or Hyperspaces I have to go to the menu bar to "activate" the switching, but it takes seconds to do this so, it is still a minor problem.
Thank you for your help though!
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Well, I was impressed so I took the plunge and bought the app. So far so good. If I put a Hyperspaces alias inside FinderPop (http://www.finderpop.com/) and click on the Hyperspace icon, I get a cool behavior - Spaces goes to the global view of all desktop spaces. That saves mousing up to the menu bar as long as you can right click on the desktop.
Now if you can add transition animations ala VirtueDesktops 8-)
craig
I’m happy
-
Hi Craig - glad to hear you like Hyperspaces so much! I will be looking at the VirtueDesktops transitions in a future version.
