Run eventbox without dock icon?
Is there any way to have Eventbox running with just the menubar icon, and not the dock icon?

You can do this for any app without any extra software. It's pretty easy.
1. Right click on the dock icon and select Show in Finder
2. Right click on the app and select Show Package Contents
3. In the Contents folder, open Info.plist in a text editor
4. Look for this line "<key>LSUIElement</key>" and change the following string value from 0 to 1.
5. Restart the app and it should appear without a Dock icon.
Note that you have to do this each time after updating the app.

Inappropriate? We will probably add this feature but it is not high on our list. It most likely will be in 1.0.

Sorry, but when the implementation can be described to a novice in a 5-step forum post, how hard can it be?
As far as I'm concerned, an application should display its icon EITHER in the dock OR on the menu bar. Both is simply superfluous.
Of course, I can understand you not wanting to package a release just for this one little thing, but it should be implemented with the next release. -
Inappropriate? You can do that now with the free DockDogdger: http://foggynoggin.com/dockdodger

This certainly gets rid of the dock icon... but it also gets rid of the application's menu. Now when opening the EventBox window from the menu icon, the menu bar still displays the menu for the previously-active application, not for EventBox. -
Calrion, this is standard OS behavior for using applications that don't have a Dock icon. For example Airport status, battery status, etc. are all apps that work this way. -
I realise that, and all those apps, being designed to work that way, do a great job. But hacking (lets face it, that's what we're talking about here) the dock icon (and hence menu) away from EventBox removes access to functionality only available through the menu.
If these things were accessible through other means, such as from the menu icon, then it wouldn't be an issue. -
Well that's an entirely different request :) I understand why this is an issue for you, but I would say that Cosmic Machine has done a decent job of making most tasks available via keyboard shortcut or application buttons. Event so, if what you also want are the application menus accessible from the menubar, then it's probably worth creating a new request for that. -
I need to look into whether you can actually have the app menu in the menubar without a dock icon. -
Plenty of other apps do this, why would it be different for EventBox? (Legitimate question, not intended as a snipe.)
Some (not built-in to OS X) apps I use that have a menu bar icon without the dock icon include: Dock Spaces, Evernote (the clipping utility, which doesn't need the main app running), Caffeine, and NodeToad. -
That's why I asked because I don't personally use any dock-less apps. -
Ahh, well there you go then. :) -
Inappropriate?Would be nice as option in the UI but it works very well how Joshua wrote it :) thx.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I think that if this were implemented, it'd be great to also have an option to have the menubar icon open the EventBox window.
-
Inappropriate? Also the Menu need to be implemented into the "TopMenuIcon Context-Menu".
-
Inappropriate?using Dock Dodger to hide the EventBox icon when running works great.
