support identi.ca (and Laconica)
Please consider adding support for Laconica and identi.ca. identi.ca, at http://identi.ca/, is an Free software/Open Source "Twitter clone" with a Twitter compatible API. That means that all you have to do is to change the URL of the Twitter API to the identi.ca API URL, and all your existing code for Twitter will work with identi.ca! You can read more about that here: http://laconi.ca/trac/wiki/TwitterCom... If you'd set up an account yourself on identi.ca too, that would be awesome! You can find a list of clients and services that works with identi.ca (and some of which can post to Twitter and identi.ca simultaneously) at http://laconi.ca/trac/wiki/Apps. You will of course be added to this list if you decide to support identi.ca.
Laconica, at http://laconi.ca/, is the code that identi.ca runs, and anyone can install it on their own server, like Leo Laporte's very popular podcasting network TWiT has done with http://army.twit.tv/. The only thing you need to do to add support for any installation of Laconica, instead of just identi.ca, is to let the user herself tell you the URL of the API. I'll add a service-domain field to the new twitter service so you can chose what host to use for authorizations + add any laconica specific hacks that are required.

Inappropriate?I especially like the idea of supporting laconi.ca. This should allow users to subscribe to many different microblogging sources, since loconi.ca can be installed nearly anywhere.

Inappropriate?It's good to have Digg back in the near future - but I'm kinda sad that you STILL got NO identi.ca support - especially considering that it uses a similar API as Twitter does. What's taking so much time, folks? If you need beta testers: Here I am.

The way development works is that we have a big list of features to be added - currently about 500. Implementing them all would probably take 2-3 years or even more (assuming we stop time). Clearly, we have to make choices what comes first with the limited resources we have. It's inevitable that sometimes a certain set of people will be disappointed because what they wanted didn't get implemented.
I can assure you that supporting identi.ca is on our list and we even have dedicated a developer to work solely on new services. Once he gets up to speed with our internal architecture, we will be seeing a lot more services. I cannot give an ETA but I can say that we will get there, sooner or later. Thanks for the patience. -
Inappropriate?I understand that there are services and/or other issues with higher priority then supporting some "Twitter clone", but as mentioned before it's not like you would have to completely start from scratch but just could use the allready exisiting Twitter Plugin and change the API Endpoint - and it should and most likely WILL work.
Thats the point why I am a bit sad and/or frustrated that even after 5month of this feature "request" there still is no support for laconi.ca whatsoever.1 Comment Add a comment

I see your point. But let me try to explain - it's not nearly as easy to change endpoints and it magically starting to work. Ideally, it should be that way but for a multitude of reasons it's not.
What I can say is that Ralf is working on identi.ca and I think it will be the next supported service in the upcoming releases (apart from Digg which is an old service which will return). -

Inappropriate?Thanks a lot for listning, just downloaded the new build and so far it looks smooth. This attitude is just what convinced me to go buy a license, since i'm confident that issues and wishes will be handled.
One comment though: You added support for identi.ca, but not there is no option to connect to other laconi.ca installations. Would be really nice if you add aption to connect to other servers with the protocol.
