Best way to import quicken file
I have been using quicken 2006 home and business on a PC and recently moved to Mac where I access it over parallels. I downloaded MoneyDance and so far like what I see. If I want to import from quicken, it is best to import into MoneyDance fresh without any accounts set up first, or should I set up the accounts and then do the import?
Thanks,
John

Inappropriate?I saved my entire file of Quicken data as a .QIF file and then imported it into Moneydance. This was over 20 years of data. There were a few glitches (which I attribute to corruption in my Quicken data file) but they were pretty easy to find and fix.
After importing, I recommend you compare the balances of each of your accounts on Moneydance and Quicken. If you find a difference, search in both programs until you find where the two programs diverge and make any corrections. In my case, some duplicate entries showed up in a few accounts which screwed the balances up. They were easy to find once I realized that they were not marked as reconciled, so I just had to go through and look for (and delete) the unreconciled transactions.
Moneydance automatically created all of my categories, so this was (by far) the easiest way to do it, I think.
