Compare investment returns AND include dividends
I want to compare my rate of return for several different securities. Some securities pay dividends and some don't. But MD doesn't include the dividend in the rate of return . In order to compare my gain/loss on a security, I must include returns from dividends.
So, my question is: how do I get a report of my total return: share appreciation AND dividends?

Inappropriate?I have not tried to do the report part of this suggestion, but it occurs to me that, if you setup an income category for you investment, you might then be able to select that category for your dividend entries and then do a transaction report for the investment and its income category to get total return. Just make sure the income category name is not exactly the same as the investment account's or MD will get confused and put two counter-balancing entries in your investment for each transaction you enter (and this goes for any type account).

Inappropriate?I would just like to be able to get a comparison list, period. How do you do that? I can't find any way to generate a comparative report of any sort...?

Inappropriate?Comparison, I guess, between different investments. If you set up as I mentioned, you can then do an Income report selecting the categories you want which will give a pie and bar chart comparison. Also, if you set all your income categories as children of a parent category, you can just look at the category list.
If you want an ROI comparison, maybe one of the 3rd party plugin's can do it. -
Inappropriate?I meant a comparison of the values of my securities portfolio as of two selectable dates, allowing me to view the returns on the portfolio and also to compare the returns on one security with another. I can't find any report in MD that does this very obvious and basic thing - and I've tried all the third party plug-ins I can find but none of them do that either.
