Does MoneyDance support ING accounts?
I'm a Mac convert from Windows. I'm trying to replace Microsoft Money but having some difficulties. One of them:
Does MoneyDance support ING accounts? I'd love to add my electric orange and my Direct Savings accounts.

Inappropriate?I can't setup ING with online banking so that MoneyDance can connect to ING and get my latest transactions.
So I login to ING, use their download to Quicken, then I import that into MoneyDance - that works fine. -
Inappropriate?I have been downloading directly into Quicken 2007 from ING Direct for at least a year. Why would I want to use Web connect?
I’m frustrated because I want to get away from Quicken!

Inappropriate?If you are talking about INGdirect USA (apparently, they are operationally pretty independent from country to country), I want to know what OFX settings you use so that I can setup my accounts for direct connect too; I also have to use web download/import.
ING got me when they bought NetBank in 2007. During the transition period, I could direct connect via the NetBank servers. However, that service was shut down around the end of the year and my emails urging them to continue direct connect have, so far, been fruitless. My last reply from INGdirect USA (about mid 2008) said they had no plans to reinstate direct connect service. -
Inappropriate?Where would I find these settings in Quicken? I am selecting it from the list of financial institutions.

Inappropriate?For my checking accounts (ING and WAMU) I prefer to download rather than use direct connect. However, today I found out that ING no longer supports OFX downloads. This happened within the past couple of weeks, since I downloaded last around January 9th. Now they only support web connect. How do I set this up? Or am I going to have to reconcile manually now? Say it ain't so!1 Comment

WaMu also does not support "direct connect", only download/import. The old Home Savings used to support direct connect, but it was dropped when WaMu bought them out in the late 80's, early 90's. Chase has now bought WaMu and Chase says they support direct connect as a $9.95/mo option. I have not tested it, but they do have a listing in OFXhome. However, I have tested that with my WaMu account and they are not direct connect supported by Chase at this time. Maybe some time in the future, but I have emailed them it should be free (LOL0.
ING canada may support direct connect as they also have a listing (OFX settings data) in OFX home. -
Inappropriate?This was actually a temporary hiccup. The OFX download option is now back. I hope WAMU doesn't change their OFX download option, since that is my preferred method.

Inappropriate?To me, web connect means "download and import" i.e., you open a bank's webpage, login to your account, download a transaction file (OFX, QIF or other) and then use MD's "import" function to get it into your accounts.
With direct connect, you choose on-line bill payment or download transactions from your MD account register menu and MD does all the communications directly with your bank, using the OFX protocol. This is what INGdirect USA and WaMu do not support at present.
Obviously, direct connect is less work and it allows on-line bill payment from within MD.
Just want to make clear what I was talking about, in case it was not before. -

Inappropriate?I fired my old Q2006 for mac and, although there is a listing for ING direct in the Institutions list, my ING direct account setup only allows "web connect". OFX Home also only lists ING direct canada.
It is true, the Quicken institution page at Intuit now says direct connect is supported for Q2009 for mac and Q for Windows. However, I just called ING direct (USA) support and they say the Intuit page is wrong and they still do not support direct connect for Q or OFX.2 Comments Add a comment

I went back and checked my copy of Quicken 2008. And you're right. ING no longer supports direct connect. At some point it was working. Sorry for the confusion and complaining ;)

Inappropriate?ING did have OFX/direct connect going for the NetBank accounts they bought from the FDIC in Sept 07. They killed it about Dec 07 and, so far, do not seem to be interested in offering it again.
