Duplicate transactions resolution?
I remember seeing this issue in the old forum, but don't recall it being resolved, so I figured I'd bring it up again.
I have one account (Fidelity NetBenefits) that does not recognize that downloaded transactions have already been recorded. Nothing I do seems to prevent the same four transactions from being downloaded. Moneydance won't even see them as matched transactions. Only the "New Transaction (No Match)" option appears in the drop-down list.

Inappropriate? Were the transactions that were already in your register downloaded or manually entered?
If the former then you may need to delete the existing transaction and then record the online transaction so that Moneydance links your bank's transaction ID with the transaction in the register.
Can you try that with one transaction and let us know if Moneydance continues to display the duplicate in the list of downloaded transactions?
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I've done as you suggested many times and in different orders. For example, I've downloaded the transactions, re-recorded them so that I now have duplicates, then download again, and they still appear. I can download them, record them, delete the old ones, and when I download again, they still appear. No combination of downloads and deletes in any order has prevented these transactions from reappearing.
The only thing I see that looks a bit irregular is that the action code in the downloaded transactions box appears as "buymf," but once recorded, it shows up only as "buy."
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?I have this same problem, only with Discover card transactions. I never enter these transactions manually, they are always downloaded. For some reason, previously downloaded transactions are not recognized. To prevent duplicate transactions from being entered, I have to look through the register to see if the transaction has already been recorded and then delete them from the list of downloaded transactions so that only non-duplicate (new) transactions are recorded.
I'm running 2008r2 (617) on OSX 10.4.11. This problem did exist in the 2007 version of MD as well. If there is any additional information I could provide to help you debug this, please let me know and I would be happy to provide it. -
Inappropriate?I'd like to add some more info about this issue:
-It occurs both on my Fidelity NetBenefits account and a Fidelity Investments IRA account.
-Transactions are downloaded repeatedly without regard to how many times they've been downloaded before or how they were entered initially.
-7 days after first downloading a transaction the problem stops. For example, I have a series of transactions with a date of 9/2. They were redownloaded every day since then, so I simply deleted the duplicates. Today those two transactions no longer appeared on the download list. I've observed this behavior with several other transactions across both accounts. -
Inappropriate?I have the same problem with a Visa card. The problem comes and goes. Today I have five transactions that I am unable to get MD to stop downloading repeatedly. I can delete the older entries, or delete the newer entries -- it doesn't matter. The transactions keep being downloaded.
A few days ago, I didn't have this problem. But a month or so ago, and repeatedly before that, I did. -
Inappropriate? Are you doing direct downloads from within Moneydance or are you downloading a file in your web browser that is then imported into Moneydance? If you are downloading using a web browser can you tell me what file format you are choosing or what is the extension on the downloaded file? Possible file extensions include QIF, QFX, OFX and OFC. If the downloaded files have the QIF extension then that would explain why the transactions keep reappearing. If you have the option to download a different file format, any of the QFX/OFX/OFC options are great, then you should choose that option.

I am doing direct downloads. -
In that case can you do the following to help us debug the issue?
1) accept the downloaded duplicate transaction into your register and then click "Done" in the accept-downloaded-transactions panel
2) in the register, select each of the two duplicates, one at a time, and then right-click (or ctrl-click) and select Show Transaction Details. Select all of the text in the window that appears then copy the text (cmd or ctrl-C) and paste it into an email to support@moneydance.com.
If you do this for both of the duplicate transactions we should be able to figure out why Moneydance is considering them different transactions. -
OK, just sent the information you asked for. I'm looking forward to a solution! -
Inappropriate?I have the same issue as well only with Discovercard. I need to delete duplicate transactions each time I download from Discover. I also never enter these transactions manually, they are always downloaded.
I’m fustrated

Inappropriate?I now have this issue with my USAA Brokerage account. The transactions that won't match have the following action codes from USAA: RETOFCAP, INCOME, BUYDEBT. When MD inserts these it changes the action to Div, MiscInc, and Buy, thus the next time they are not recognized.
-
Inappropriate? My problem with USAA has now cleared itself. I kept deleting the duplicate download transactions, then one day they didn't show up again!??
-
Inappropriate?I'm also having this problem with three transactions in a Discover Card account. I'm running 2008r3. I manually entered the transactions initially, and then I did a direct download from Discover. Everything matched up correctly the first time, but three transactions keep reappearing every time I do a subsequent download. Sean, do you need any additional input to assist in debugging this issue?
-
Inappropriate?I just ran into this problem and was able to fix it by deleting the transactions already in the register that were being duplicated by the download match and hitting "enter" for the downloaded transactions.
I could not see any difference between the ones in the register and the ones being downloaded, but the "delete before enter" process has worked, at least this first go with the problem.
