Natural language input improvements
Make it possible to type all or some of the category text, without hierarchy
Check OmniFocus, and Quicksilver on OSx For an example of excellent Natural language input.
It took me alotlonger to set up Moneydance because I had to enter the Category list via direct manipulation, instead of just typeing the name of the category. I know this is possible- but, Each time I would have to type the full word of the main cat and then enter the colon (which doesnt appear in the auto complete) then the actual category i want (E.G personal:groceries) It would be fantastic and amazingly quick if it was possible just to type 'gro' or 'phon' - a portion of any part of the Category path to find the sub cat)
at least it would be helpful if MD autocompleted the main category with the colon 'Personal:'
Hope this is useful.
cheers.

Inappropriate?I like this idea! I sometimes have trouble remembering what the correct parent category is for less-frequently used subcategories. This would make a lot easier to find them.
How would ambiguous entries be handled? For instance, I have a subcategory for "books" under "education" (a required educational expense) and under "leisure" (recreational reading). If I typed "books", there needs to be a way to let me know that there is more than one parent category and let me choose between them.
I'm surprised you had to type the entire name in so much - I rarely need to type more than two or three letters. Do you have "Case Sensitive Auto-Complete" checked on the General tab in Preferences? -
Inappropriate?That would be great!
As would the ability to be able to change multiple transactions at once.
Also, the effectiveness of point and click categorisation would be greatly improved if the scroll menu worked properly and if you could turn off the insanely annoying "save changes to this transaction?" thing. -
Inappropriate?A nice stepping stone to natural language support might be simply jumping to income or expense categories based on whether there is a number in the payment or deposit category.
I have a tough time selecting my categories from the list because I have lots of categories. I would not mind entering the amount before the category if it would help limit my category choices. -
Inappropriate?I like this idea too...

Good news is when I suggested it to Sean last year, he liked it as well.
Perhaps if enough people vote for it here, we will see it in MD 2009? I'm not sure if the "voting" on this forum has replaced the "me too" comments in track, but it wouldn't hurt to add a comment to the ticket as well. -
Inappropriate?By the way, Moneydance does auto-complete the categories when you type them in. So for "Personal:Groceries" you could type something like 'p' 'e' ':' 'g' 'enter'. Of course the number of letters you have to type to auto-complete depends on the names of the other categories you have.
