New entry field colors uglified after Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2
As can be seen in the screenshot below, new entry fields are not as nice looking after the most recent (Sept 24) Java update for Mac OS X.
Mac OS X version 10.5.5 (intel), Java version 1.5.0_16-b06-284

Inappropriate?Happens on Mac OS X 10.5.5 PowerPC too. This is really ugly; worse: hardly readable.
-
Inappropriate?Go to: Applications - Utilities - Java
Select: Java Preferences
In the Java application versions window drag J2SE 1.4.2 to the top of the list (see screenshot).

This is really only a temporary fix until Moneydance can be updated because it's giving an earlier version of Java priority when running Java applications but in the meantime at least it makes things a little easier on the eye.

this solves the problem

Solves problem, but one no longer has access to Moneydance Preferences, unless reverting to Java Preferences defaults. -
Inappropriate?I hadn't noticed that but it's the same on my Intel iMac for what it's worth. Still, for the amount of times I have to access my preferences it'll still suffice as a temporary fix.

Inappropriate?Tried changing the Java prefs as suggested by ihunter, but it did not fix the problem of incorrect (ugly) colors in MD on my system, unfortunately. The background for any transaction that's selected for editing is dark gray, making it hard to read the contents of the transactions. I'm on a G5 dual-processor PPC tower running Leopard, in case that info is useful to anyone else.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? There is a new version out, very recently, R3 version which rectifies this. if you have the updater installed it should prompt you upon launch...
I’m happy
-
I'm not sure what you mean; R3 in my environment [OSX 10.5.5 with the Java update] looks exactly like it did before when adding/editing an entry in the register? What about it remains different from the 'norm'? -
Inappropriate?Version R3 of Moneydance fixes the problem. You need to change your updater settings to use preview releases in order to get the update.
-
Inappropriate?I may be alone here, but I'm not prepared to use the preview version rather than the "fully sanctioned" release when it comes to my checkbooks. I'd rather wait a bit and put up with the ugly.
-
I quite agree! I never mess with "pre-release" versions, and ESPECIALLY never with sensitive software. This is quite a usability issue for us on the Mac, but I'm not going anywhere near preview releases... -
Inappropriate?Mac users of 2008r3 622 should Restore Defaults in their Java Preferences. I think J2SE 1.4.2 killed my Moneydance Preferences panel. After restoring, I can open my Preferences panel again.
