Ticket #1376 - historical account balances are broken

This very old trouble ticket reported an issue with stock splits corrupting historical balances. It sounds like the actual problem is much broader than that. I have found that the entry of any new loan also corrupts the historical balances. MD seems to be having trouble knowing what date to start including such transactions in the historical balances. It's very easy to reproduce. Set up a new loan, starting today, and then check your balances five years ago. You'll see that the new loan shows in that historical balance - obviously it should not.

Apologies that I already posted something similar as a comment in another thread but I can't delete that and I now I know what a big problem it is, and that it's been open for so long (and now I've paid my money!!) I want to give it some profile in the hope of a very rapid fix.
