Resize keys on a fixed central point to eliminate learning curve
What about a mode where instead of moving all the keys around, you lock the keys in place in the center of the key, and then adjust the width of the keys based on your predictions. This would make it much easier to type quickly and not worry about keys, even those being predicted as likely, from not being where you would expect them to be. I think working like this would absolutely help reduce typos while at the same time eliminating any learning curve from your keyboard.

Brian, as a temporary solution, you can decrease enlargement coefficient. Go to Language & Keyboard -> ThickButtons Settings -> Enlargement. This might help!

I think that this is needed for the keyboard to do well. it is kindof hard and I notice my self slowing down while typing because the keys are shifting.

Yes I did try this, a little better and easier to use. I really like the idea of the keyboard, especially on smaller screens.

Yeah, in my opinion the changing key widths should be passive; you should not need to look at the keys in order to hit them correctly every time. Forcing users to look at the keyboard while typing cripples them, especially when on most devices a single finger can block the view of half the keyboard. As long as the key centers remain static, I'd imagine that muscle memory would be able to work correctly.

As I press a key I look ahead at the next key I'm going to hit. So when the key I'm going for suddenly jumps to the left, it ends up causing me to make mistakes. So i have to slow down and find each key I want as I need it. It would be better for me if the keys grew and shrank, but still kept their same center point. I know that would limit the amount of growth that could be implemented, but it would increase the speed at which you can type on the keyboard. You could even change the color of the enlarged keys slightly to draw a persons eye to the key they probably want.

I think this is a really good idea. Watching the keys change as I typed made me really want them center of each key to stay in the same spot but have it just get bigger, not move. I'm actually finding myself having more errors because they keys are moving on me.

Thanks all for your suggestions!
We are now discussing those option. I guess you folks might be one of our closed beta testers if we will implement those features. -

This is my only issue with this keyboard. If you do decide to use this idea I may switch to using ThickButtons as my default keyboard.

Does Android OS support changing the hit rect of the buttons instead of the actual size of the buttons? I really would like to see something that a.) centers the button at the same location and b.) doesn't actually change the size of the buttons. Then you'd get a functional replacement with the awesome proximity detection without having the shifting around.
