News and Trending is "Noise" in the brizzly UI
New to brizzly. I have a request or a request to put out to your growing user community. I would like the option to turn off the news and trending info in the right column. This is "noise". why do I have to clutter my UI for brizzly with this stuff coming from twitter. I is like advertising, I don't like non relevant information.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feedback, everyone. We don't have any plans to make trends and news collapsible at this time. We intend to improve their behavior so hopefully they will become more compelling to you.

Thanks for letting us know how you feel. We plan to evolve this area of the page, we are still in beta so it's hardly done shifting and growing. We would like to make it even more useful to you so hopefully you won't see it as 'noise' but perhaps as something compelling and useful in the coming weeks and months. Thanks for giving us a chance.

Inappropriate?I absolutely agree. It is noise. It is too prominent. I want to be able to hide it. There isn't a way to make it more useful to me. I only want to see the people I am following. I don't have any interest in trending topics.
-
Inappropriate? If this could be colapsed/minimized and shown when desired, it might be better as one then could then expand it on occasion.
-
Inappropriate? This is one of my favorite features. You should have interest in trends. Even though a lot of them can be meaningless, you can get a lot of information from trends. It can almost be considered news of what people want to talk about.
-
Inappropriate?Joe, not saying that it shouldn't be available...just be able to make it less visible if one wanted to.
-
Inappropriate? This is a good feature, I particularly like the "why". I don't think it is a noise.
-
Inappropriate?I'd like to be able to hide it as well, pref. collapse it to the right or turn it off completely so there's more room for tweets.
About 9 out of 10 trending topics are only of interest to people in the US, or are simple nonsense and a waste of space. Why would I want to know why #goodmorning is a trending topic? Or #Oprah? #MusicMonday?
Please let me turn it off.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I like the idea of being able to choose whether it displays, but I have to say I find it the most (the only?) useful widget for trending topics I've come across, even if it only highlights how dumb many of the topics are. The user-editable explanations are fantastic.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Someone is spamming those explanations with their own hashtags/Twitter name.
-
We try to moderate that as best we can. We might open up moderation to users in the future as well to prevent spamming and inaccurate explanations. -
Please do that, Corinna. -
Inappropriate?Being able to toggle it would satisfy me.

Inappropriate?I love what you guys have done with Brizzly, but I tend to agree that trending topics detracts from this app and twitter in general...I would like the option of tuning out from what the sheeple are saying
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Looks like people either love or hate trending topics. (I find it interesting, myself, and would miss it. I also love the "why" feature - saves me a lot time.) I think it should be toggle-able, to keep everybody happy.
I’m interested in compromise
-
Inappropriate? It seems useless to be activated on the Facebook stream.
-
Inappropriate? If you really want to hide it then use this http://userstyles.org/styles/21587
-
Inappropriate? If you are in firefox, and use greasemonkey, you can install a script to collpse the trending topics menu.
-
Inappropriate?I have been on Brizzly for less than 5 min and already I HATE the trending crap. Not only is it noise and clutter but arguably the worst and most confusing interface I have yet to see for web based "anything".
Sorry guys what you are trying to do here is very interesting but to be honest this "feature" is so annoying it just takes over and makes exploring the rest of the system harder, less enjoyable and thus ultimately myself and I guess a good number of other folks will simply not invest the time and go use something else.
From what I can see your useful features do not stack up enough against this stubborn attitude. All we need is an option to turn it OFF and all will be well. Then you can develop it to your hearts content and we can come back and look later if we are of that mind.
Just my thoughts. -
Inappropriate?I should be able to remove them as right now they're not at all helpful or useful. Even when I AM interested I can't DO anything with them. Shouldn't clicking on the trend take me to a list of tweets on that subject?
I’m indifferent
-
"I can't DO anything with them. Shouldn't clicking on the trend take me to a list of tweets on that subject? "
That is just one reason why I said it is one of the worst / confusing interfaces ever conceived on the web.
Come on guys, just get rid of this thing until you sort out what and how it should work. I know this is a beta but really... -
Inappropriate?Brizzly isn't for stupid users or assholes. Wow can you freak out a little more? You use it by clicking "more" to read a description and then you van click search to show all the tweets. Hve you ever used Twitter.com it has the trends listed along with everything else on the cluttered right nav bar. This 3 column design is just a different way of organizing it. If you don't like it use another Twitter tool or head right over to Twitter.com. There is such a thing as constructive criticism. The point has been made that a few or many users desire to be able to hide the 3rd column that currently houses the trends. Now, the Brizzly may decide to implement that later but currently
this is how their product is so either suck it up and use it or don't. We got it you don't like it. Thanks for your wonderful input. Thanks for a good laugh. I love the Internet!! Whoa!! I can say anything I want!! :) have a nice day. Keep up the good work Brizzly team!
I’m freaking excited ;)

Who took a dump in your breakfast cereal? Why would you get so worked up over people criticising it if it's not clear. I eventually figured that out, but it's not at all intuitive is it? I click the trend and it opens up to the explanation, but so does clicking "why". Why have two methods of doing the same thing no more than two or three pixels apart? I'd think the "why" link was there because there was no other method of opening up that function. -
Inappropriate?A pigeon pooped in my cheerios. :( I wish I could close this topic discussion. My comment was more directed to Blue Jay Designs. They are the one's being dramatic. You clearly misunderstood my tone. I think it's funny that people get so worked up about things on the Internet and people feel the need to be extremely critical and rude.
Aitese - I hope you grow to love Brizzly as much as I do. You deserve it after having a wonderful comment like "Who took a dump in your breakfast cereal?" I do wonder why you didn't say that to Blue Jay Designs but I guess you didn't feel the need because you agreed with him. Don't be hypocritical just love the world and strive for peace. Hang in there man or woman... -
Inappropriate?Agree with those who seek the ability to colapse/minimize news and trends.
Will check out the user style. -
Inappropriate?Hi, Brizzly folks, I'm completely uninterested in "trending topics" and would very much like to have an option to remove them from my sidebar. Thanks :)
-
Inappropriate? If one removes the trending topics, one is left with whitespace. I want something there, not nothing. Keep 'em, or replace them. I don't mind. Just don't delete them and leave it blank.
-
Inappropriate?I wrote a user script that allows you to expand/collapse various aspects of the brizzly UI (currently the navbar & sidebar.) Works in Chrome & Firefox.
-
Thank you, Brian, that's great! I already installed it and those pesky Trending Topics are gone :)
