How many BlinkM/MaxM units on a single Arduino regulated power pin?
We're building an 8-unit Arduino-controlled BlinkM/MaxM installation, and I'm doing some testing with an Arduino Mega and a pair of BlinkM/MaxM combos. For the full installation we'll source a decent power supply for the entire setup, but in the meantime, I'm wondering if I can get away with driving two BlinkM/MaxMs directly from the Arduino's regulated supply?
I've seen a few setups with one BlinkM/MaxM, but even when I do that the small IC next to the Arduino's power socket (presumably the voltage regulator) gets very hot. Do I risk blowing the regulator with two BlinkM/MaxMs (or even with one)?
I'm using an external PSU of course - not USB. The PSU is rated at 500mA unregulated, but if that burns out I'll buy another one. I'm less keen on wrecking the Arduino or either of the BlinkMs. Should I just buy them their own external PSUs and be done with it? :-)
