Possibly remove Dejumble themes?
We are considering removing theme support from Dejumble. Before we make any concrete decision, we would love to hear our users (your) opinions. If you don't like it, we wont do it.
Here's a bit of our reasoning... We have lots of great new features coming in the next release of Dejumble (with more to come after that). Insuring that new features look great with each theme adds a considerable amount of time to the development and debug process. Removing theme support and having one look for Dejumble also provides a constant look and feel for Dejumble that users can come to rely on.
Let us know what you think. Are you for it or against?

Inappropriate? We were considering keeping the graphite (Default) theme for the look of Dejumble. What theme do you like best?
-
Inappropriate?I tried the others but I returned to the default look. It's easy on the eyes, has enough character to handle subtle color accents and has great readability. The task section could do with a bit more distinction in the display of the rows, but otherwise it's almost perfect. I'd say stick with the default and remove the others. Now let's bring on the great new features!
-
Inappropriate?Hi, I've only just started playing around with Dejumble and must confess I like the black skin - although if I had more control over the look/feel I would be happy with just the default.
Perhaps options for floating above/below (keep on top) windows and maybe a transparency option? -
Inappropriate? My vote goes to the black skin. The graphite skin is sort of ok. I despise in it the peach gradient. It hurt my eyes! For me the black skin is the most readable. The default skin is also ok, but again, use a plain color for the past dues tasks. Thanks!
-
Inappropriate?I would like it best if the design would be as much mac/itunes/safari-ish as possible and yes, taking out skin functionality is better
-
Inappropriate?I vote for the default theme, but instead of purple, let us have gray or black on the places the purple color is. And yes, it would be best with only on theme. People care most about features and bug fixes, than having the option to change looks.
-
Inappropriate?I agree with the above. However, I like the Leopard look a lot. So keep the one that is closest to that. The soft gray gradient is the best (Safari, iTunes, et al.)
It seems like it was when you added theme support that the program's redraw rate when down. So if removing it speeds up Dejumble then that is awesome!
Themes do not impact functionality (unless they are just plain ugly). So the leaner the program is for eye candy and the more functional it is for daily use I am all good with that.
I’m thankful!
-
Inappropriate?the default - i tried the others but soon went back. it's the closest to feeling a part of the system itself.
I’m hopeful...
-
Inappropriate? Please don't get rid of the black theme! Looks great and I love it!
-
Inappropriate?Themes are not important to me, functionality is. And I'd be happy with whatever (legible) look you gave Dejumble.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?I love the themes. To me it's the feature that caused me to consider buying.
I’m loving it
-
Inappropriate?I'd vote for dropping the themes, in favour of rapid dev and snappy feel.
The more it looks like native OSX, the better, as far as I'm concerned.
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Don't drop the themes!
Themes are important to me. I'd vote for the ability for user customized themes, though I realise this might be impractical from a programming point of view. I'd love to be able to change the background colour, and the highlight colour etc... All asking too much probably.
But at least the ability to choose from a few preset themes should be retained in my view.
My favourite is the purple view. I don't like the black view and the grey view is boring. -
Inappropriate?Getting where you need to go is more important in the immediate. Place the themes on hold; concentrate on the content; revive the themes after you have accomplished your goals.
-
Inappropriate?I would definitely like you to keep the black theme. It is by far the most legible for me.
-
Inappropriate? To me, rock-solid functionality is much higher priority than any kind of looks. If going to a single theme helps you reach that level of functionality & performance, then that's worth the tradeoff. You can always add themes again later.
Your product concept has potential, but if you can't implement it in a way that's simple, reliable and easy to use, then people (myself included) will organize their tasks in a simple text editor, which is rock-solid and easy to use. Your product promises something more than this, in that you can group your tasks, and expand/contract them at will so that you can back up and see an overview of what tasks need attention, but the interface seems buggy or at least non-intuitive. Why can't I select a task by clicking on it, and then press the delete bar to delete it? Why can't I click and drag my tasks to re-arrange them into an order that makes sense to me? Why can't I do the same for the groups I make? Dragging tasks into order is more important than adding priority stars: ordering directly accomplishes what's needed, while twiddling the stars on each entry is a clunky and time-consuming way to try to get the program to maybe get the order a step or two closer to the right order. Does that make sense? Keep the interface simple, direct, and intuitive, and we'll all be better off. I might even buy the thing! :-)
In regard to which theme, I prefer looking at something that's more like the rest of the mac, with black on white, a few highlights, etc. The black theme is way too dark for my tastes. -
Inappropriate? It looks like we will remove theming features for Dejumble 1.2.0. Its already been disabled in the 1.2.b1. Please post any suggestions complains regarding the color scheme here.
Color changes from beta 1.2.b1 to 1.2.b2
- Past due color (the yellowish background)
We are thinking about just showing the title with a red text color instead of the yellow task background.
- Lighten task row gradient a bit. -
How do I get 1.2.b2 (or is it not out yet?) -
Inappropriate?Its not out just yet.
-
Inappropriate?Wow, now I am bummed. I just bought the app. I like black. It is the combo of looks and functionality that got me to try the app. If the black skin goes away, so will I .... I would definitely have not bought it knowing this. Wow that blows
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I feel the same way really paul, visuals are very important to me.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Allan,
I would support removal if it makes it easier for you. Concerning the next upgrade I happily paid for the program and have not used it a real lot having so many third party programs but I still like your concept and am sure I will use it more as I am a university media student .
As you probably are aware of education is all getting very technologically orientated and my idea is eventually to teach technology so I have looked at lots of software and have bought lots too do you know pathfinder and the Omigroup have some great stuff.
Once again I would like to compliment you on your software it has never given me a problem and I find it graphically gorgeous that's very Jobsian so keep up the good work and I look forward to whatever upgrades you make
all the best

Inappropriate?I really like the Black/Darker of the three looks that are installed.
-
Inappropriate?I prefer the colours of the white/ grey theme.
The black/darker colour theme is also OK, bit a bit somber on the screen.
I do not like the existing "middle" colour theme as it looks too anemic.
I definitely do not like the new beta theme that I just downloaded. The colours are without interest, although that may be because it's beta. I hope its not the theme to come.
One benefit is the on screen appearances of the Mac. At least you must aim for a high artistic standard. The beta isn't in that class.
The 2 above would be my preference.
Is it possible to have the on screen task depth of version 1.1.1 as one option & the narrower task depth of the new beta as an option, or with optional themes does it all become too complicated to produce.
Finally, please keep it simple.
Please keep me posted on future developments.
Will the iPhone application run on the iTouch? -
Inappropriate?i like having the choice of themes. when my mood changes, i change theme. sounds stupid, but its important for me. please don't remove the feature.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate? For God's sake PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE BLACK THEME !!!!!!!!! Its the most beautiful one there is, that defines the application !
-
Inappropriate?Based on the feedback regarding this issue, the black theme will be brought back (its currently not in the beta). After sync and some other issues are worked out we will introduce the black theme again.
-
Do you mean you'll impart it in the next main release (not beta) ? What shall be the present replacement for the moment please ? -
Inappropriate?Basically the look of the current beta is what's going to be the only option until the black theme gets reintroduced.
-
Inappropriate?Themes were top of your list as a feature of 1.1
Users have a justified expectation that it will remain in 1.2
I trialed 1.1, liked the purple theme, and bought the product. I found the others less clear. On downloading the beta to try out sync I have been very disappointed that the themes have gone.
By all means, keep the beta as is, but before the full release I do feel that the themes of 1.1 should be supported.
I don't think the wider number of your users (the ones that post here represent a particular sort of demographic) would be too pleased to have a feature that they paid money for removed for what would appear, to them, to be no reason.
User expectation can be a hard task master but it can be disastrous to disappoint. -
Inappropriate?Keep the themes oh please oh please. I love the flexibility and I adjust the themes based on how I am feeling. Just me though. I'll use the software either way.
I’m somewhat sad
