forced to change gmail password
after using threadsy for a day, google forced me to change the password on my gmail account due to "suspicious activity." is it possible that threadsy use could have triggered this?

Sorry for the frustration this is causing. We are frustrated by it too.
We use standard IMAP protocol to access Gmail and Google for some reason is flagging a small subset of people and prompting them to change their password. We don't know why Google selects only some people and not others, I assume it has to do with whatever security algorithm they have in place, which they keep confidential.
As far as we know, no one has ever been prompted to change their password more than once. If this happens, please let us know!
Wish I had a fix to report, but hands are tied on this one for now...

Inappropriate?I've heard no other reports of this, not sure what happened. One thing to note: if you change you gmail password, to see that account in threadsy, you have to go to your settings page (the wrench icon) and 'update password' for that account so that it's in synch again.
If Gmail makes you change it again, please let me know! -
Inappropriate? This just happened to me as well! I have to change the password on my gmail account due to "suspicious activity.". This is definitely coming from threadsy.
-
Inappropriate?Okay, we will look into this right away. Sorry about the inconvenience, this is the first we have heard of this issue!
Are you perhaps using any other applications to access your gmail? Maybe an iphone or other mobile device? We think that it might be too much activity from too many sources on a single device. -
Inappropriate?I didn't see a way to remove my gmail account from my threadsy account, so I had to change my gmail password.
that was kind of annoying. -
this sounds like a different issue. Did you try removing it from the settings page (click the wrench)? You must have at least one email account tied to your threadsy account to use it. If you wish to delete your threadsy account entirely please email support@threadsy.com with your threadsy username. and of course we'd love to hear why! -
Inappropriate?I would rather not be forced to have any services attached to my account, I should be allowed to remove all my services.
after adding my gmail password, I was uneasy and decided it's not worth the risk of having my google account compromised. as much as I trust people on the web, my google account is something else ;)
I’m undecided

OK but without your password we won't be able to pull in any email, so threadsy wouldn't really be of much value. We'll revisit this if enough people just want to use it for Facebook + Twitter, but we're not really building our product for that right now. Of course, anything could change. If you want us to remove your threadsy account, just email support@threadsy.com thanks! -
Inappropriate?I had the same issue (change password notification), but no big deal to me...
I’m happy

Inappropriate? We haven't figured out why this is happening yet and view it as a very high priority bug. It seems to be happening to only a few people out of many that have signed up. If anyone who's experienced this problem has any ideas on why your specific gmail account may have been flagged by gmail, please let us know. Thanks a lot.

Inappropriate?I do also check my gmail from my iphone, but I have it set to manual updates (so it only pulls when I manually check it a few times a day, not every 15 min). That might help. I'll let you know if it happens again. Thanks.

Inappropriate?Gmail is telling me this after I tried logging into my email accounts (on mail.google.com/mail) after using Threadsy for the past couple of days.
"We've detected suspicious activity on your Google Account. Please create a new password to continue using your account."
This happened for all 3 of my accounts that I had added to Threadsy and have to reset the password for all 3 of them.
I never had this problem before and I check my emails usually on my iPhone all the time.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate? We're still trying to figure this out.
-
Inappropriate?I just stopped using the threadsy service for this reason. can you notify me when this bug is fixed.
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Just wondering, but how does threadsy authenticate at google, as this seems to imply that you ain't using a normal POP connection (which would solve the problem for sure I assume).
I’m just wondering
-
threadsy uses IMAP -
Inappropriate? This also happened to me. It happened about 24 hours after I started using threadsy.
I’m anxious
-
Inappropriate?I am having the same problem. used threadsy for a day, and now forced to change my email password. very annoying and may cause me to stop using it for this reason
-
Inappropriate?Same thing here. Signed up for Threadsy yesterday, today I get the email from Google telling me about "suspicious activity."
Totally freaked me out.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Question for those that have experienced this issue:
Did you do this series of steps:
1. sign up for threadsy and successfully add your gmail
2. go to gmail.com and change your password
3. get the "suspicious activity" email from Google and change your password again
thanks for your help on this! -
I did not. Mine was 1 --> 3 directly.
I didn't change my password before getting the "suspicious activity" email from Google. -
OK thanks. We will keep investigating. If there's anything else that you think might be unique about your gmail behavior, please share (it appears that if you use IMAP on other services it doesn't make a difference) -
Nope, haven't used POP or IMAP in ages. Just the web interface of Gmail. -
Inappropriate?I skipped step 2 as well. Tried Threadsy and then next time I went to gmail I was notified of the suspicious activity. So order was 1, 3, 2
-
OK thanks for the info. Anything unusual about how you access Gmail in other places? Do you use IMAP anywhere? -
Inappropriate?I just got the error after using threadsy for a day as well. Gmail's reporting the most recent usages being on IMAP at IP addresses 174.129.205.107 and 174.129.205.115, both in Kansas City. I'm guessing that's where threadsy's servers are located. Interestingly, I was able to use gmail just fine earlier in the day via my browser, but just before the notice to change my password came, I did send a couple emails via IMAP on my phone. Perhaps google noticed IMAP usage just a few minutes apart on opposite sides of the world and flagged it because of that? (Certainly not my regular pattern of usage)
