Can't decide between medium and small messenger
I'm trying to figure out what size messenger bag I want. I want to be able to carry a folio, small nalgene, lunch, and such but don't want something huge. Basically, I'm concerned that a small might be too small for my needs or that a medium will look huge (when carried by a early-20s male in a suit).

Inappropriate?well, i'm an early 20's girl in jeans and converse who travels a lot and I have a small custom messenger.
On an average day going to classes, I can fit: 2 spiral notebooks (both 1 subject or 1 sub/3 sub) and a text book (say an 8.5x11 in one). plus my planner, water bottle (not a full size nalgene, the half size one), keys, phone, camera, pens, pencils, random junk, sunglasses, etc. it gets kinda squishy, but i'm good at packing.
Basically, you could fit everything in a small. I don't like the medium, my mom has one and it seems huge to me (but I'm 5'1", so that's relative)
hope that helps! :)
I’m thinking I have crazy cool packing skillz

Inappropriate? The medium seems pretty bulky to me, great for anyone carrying a pretty hefty average load. But the small seems to have a much tighter profile, 2.5" thinner I believe, and be a little more mobile.
I have the new Grown (Hemp) Commute and fully loaded with my books and 15" laptop I take to classes every day, I'm usually on a tight squeeze for my Nalgene after everything else is loaded into it, so I have it on a carabiner and attach it to the shoulder strap buckles, works great for me. So If you went with a small messenger, you could always do something like that. Plus, I never have to reach in the bag to get it.
But I do think the small should fit what you have listed, depending on the size of that "small" nalgene you mentioned. That might be the only factor that might cause it to max out passed the velcro.
