Color inconsistencies and changes
I recently (and will post a praise) had a terrific turnaround time (and service) on a replacement to my 5+ year old Large messenger bag that had started leaking. In ordering the replacement, i could not (at the time) replicate my original color scheme of Navy blue/Dark green/Navy Blue, so i decided to go with Navy blue/graphite green/Navy blue scheme..
the bag arrived on monday, and in the last couple of days i've noticed a few inconsistencies related to color of the ballistic nylon:
1. the "new" navy blue is *much* darker than my original navy blue panels on my prior bag. i understand that things change, and that the bag builder isn't 100% accurate on the screen, but what shows up on the bag builder on my color calibrated computer screen is "identical" to my old bag. moreover, the navy logo that was stitched onto my navy blue panel does not match like it did on my previous bag. (the logo is significantly lighter than the fabric of the panel)
2. for whatever reason, dark green was not available when i ordered my bag, but it's now there on the web again!!* :(
* the only reason i know this is that i wanted to see what the bag looked like on bag builder last night and low and behold dark green which i am certain wasn't an option last week is back.
needless to say, i'm a little disappointed. the new scheme doesn't look bad, per se, but it's not what i thought i was getting: this navy blue is much darker than what i originally had and what appears on the screen, and furthermore, what was meant as a "subtle" logo with the same color is much more striking/bright than what i had intended and had with my original bag.
i can only guess that for both these cases above reflect variations the "fabric lots" that Timbuk2 uses (although i would argue this change in Navy is pretty dramatic) and their availability. perhaps no "dark green" ballistic was available last week when i tried to build my bag, hence it was unavailable?
i'm not *totally* disappointed. the bag looks ok...it's just not quite what i thought it would turn out to be looking like. (perhaps i had unreasonable expectations of being able to replicate my prior bag...)
don't worry...love for Timbuk2 not totally lost...praise will be posted soon!

Inappropriate?Derek,
Thanks for your praise and questions about your Timbuk2 experiences. The question of the navy blue is really tough because any time you work with a fabric, if the fabric isn't from the same dye lot, the fabric is going to be slightly different eventhough it might be the exact same color dye. And things are bound to change in 5+ years.
From a technical standpoint, the Web platform has a limited number of colors that can be displayed. There will be times when the color is a little different than it looks on the screen. When you pair that with the fact that the colors are photographed in full spectrum light and the variances between monitors we do run into this issue now and then.
As for the green color... sorry about that. We simply were out of stock on it and now it's back. If the dark green vs. graphite green is a deal breaker for you, then contact customer service and we'll try to work something out for you.
