Here is my Diaper Bag Hack Kit, sure to be the MOST USED items by parents after the baby shower:

First you start with the Timbuk2 bag of your choice. For me it's the Medium Cargo Tote all the way: http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/t...
Then you add a killer all in one type changing pad. My fave, since it holds diapers, wipes and baby and folds up to the size of a checkbook wallet is linked below, but the options are endless. http://store.babycenter.com/product/d...
There are some great handmade changing pads and burp cloths on etsy.com too, and many sellers will customize the fabric to match your Timbuk2 bag or nursery theme!
Next you fill it with a Hooter Hider for nursing moms: http://www.bebeaulait.com/index.html
Or an insulated bottle carrier for formula feeders: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-4/qid=1189547468/ref=sr_1_4/601-4868444-8551329?ie=UTF8&asin=B000TW0R9I
Toss in a onesie or two...everyone knows a change of clothes is a diaper bag MUST, some diapers...that is the point after all, a burp cloth, a book and/or a toy for good measure.
I love Jittery Jungle Pals as they are plush and compact, vibrate when they are pulled which babies love, not to mention have features that rattle and crinkle too: http://www.infantino.com/Toys/Toys0/1...
And for an over the top tip: Wrap the package of diapers (or any gift really!) in a receiving blanket and secure with diaper pins for a truly sustainable gift...all the pieces will be used again and there's nothing to throw away, and when it comes down to it, isn't that the beauty of using a Timbuk2 bag as a diaper bag anyway? Once you're done toting diapers it can be your beach bag, or you could even send your little one to school with it as their book bag because grade school will be here before you know it.
Here are some pics of all the stuff in use by a real live mom, dad and baby!

eck! As a soon-to-be second time mom, I recommend going with a bag that closes at the top. When you're juggling baby, bottles, diapers, pacifiers, etc. it's very easy for the diaper bag to get dropped, tip over, etc. You'll want a way to be sure you don't end up with all the contents spilling out all over the ground.
And you're right -- there are tons of cool little accessories that can make up for the lack of diaper bag-ness of the Timbuk2 bags. Here are some examples:
Changing wallet
Travel Pod set
All kinds of bottle cooler pouches
Peek-a-Boo Diaper Bag organizers
I’m thankful there are so many options these days.

I am expecting my first and sadly have to say, we have no diaper bag. Oh the irony!
We usually recommend a Medium or Large, for dad since it's a big bag, Classic Messenger Bag as well as our Medium and Large Cargo Tote! I am thinking of going with a Medium Market Tote myself. I like the open top idea to grab a diaper or bottle out in a sec! With all the great diaper bag accessories out there like the insulated bottle carriers and traveling changing pad system (check out Babies 'R' Us) it is really easy to get the pieces any parent would need to make this a great baby bag!

Inappropriate?Hmmm... great question! I hear that you have a bag that can be customized to be a diaper bag. Is this correct? If so, which model and how would you recommend cusomizing it?
I’m sure dads everywhere would be grateful for a Timbuk2 diaper bag.

Inappropriate? This is a great idea! I bet the cargo bag would make a great baby carrier, too! Who needs a sling, anyway?
I’m pregnant and proud
-
Inappropriate?I have been checking out slings too! Man, I am going to have to stop looking. Considering how long these bags last, it could even be the kids first, last and only school bag!

Inappropriate?Very true! From my baby sitting days I was never one to close the bag. Too many zippers! May have to think Messenger Bag now. Flip the flap and I'm off. After juggling and loading baby that is.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the Hooter Hider reminder! I need to register for one of those.
I’m not shy but sometimes discretion is called for.
-
Inappropriate?*LOVE* the Peek-a-boo diaper organizers....those are totally going in every diaper bag hack kit I do from now on! Thanks Amy!
-
Inappropriate? No problem! And thank YOU for all the great tips. Makes me wish I had a baby shower (other than my own) to attend. I would love to put together a custom diaper bag for someone.
-
Inappropriate? You could come to mine! ;-) but I have plenty of bags...
It is super fun seeing all the goodies in or on the bag show up in those first few weeks of babies life pics on friends blogs, smug mugs or flickr pages.

When will the new bag be out on the market? -
Inappropriate?Wow! It's actually happening. That's awesome. I wonder if the recent wave of new babies at Timbuk2 had anything to do with it.
I’m pleasantly surprised
-
Inappropriate?I wish Lilia could take the credit but I believe the inspiration came from our latest Artist Workshop.
-
Very cool! We continue to <3 Timbuk2. -
Inappropriate?I still would like a baby bag with pockets and more geared towards the specific uses of a baby bag.
