not quite what i had in mind
I just retired my custom Timbuk2 messenger bag after 6 years of good service. I decided to order a custom Lex pack last week. (I wanted very badly to see one of these in person, as I saw that there are no returns on custom bags, but none of the Timbuk2 retailers in my area had one).
My new backpack is gorgeous, but a nightmare to carry. The description of the bag states "generously padded shoulder straps", which couldn't be farther from the truth. Yesterday was the last straw when I came home with numb shoulders after carrying an average load at school all day.
What do I do? I dropped $150 on this bag, and it is basically useless to me now. I miss my messenger bag and would like to do an exchange. I am willing to take a hit on this since the messenger bag I would need is $40 cheaper than the Lex. Please help me! And, thank you.

Inappropriate? How much weight are you carrying around in that bag?

Inappropriate?its ludicrous how much weight students have to carry on average these days. I remember reading an article a couple years ago about an upward trend in stress related back injuries for pre-teens!
Just get Quinn a shopping cart for his birthday Thor, it will save on your medical bills.
I’m not contributing

Inappropriate?Hmmm, my giant physiology and chemistry books, a load of notebooks, lunch, etc. I am not good at guessing weights, but on more than one occasion I had to pull things out of the backpack and carry them in my hands to spare my shoulders.

Inappropriate?First off, WOW! That is a heavy load. Our Lex Pack is a great backpack for larger loads but carrying the load all day if going to start to hurt. You are carrying the weight on your shoulders and back. Not good.
The Lex Pack is what's also known as the Pro Series Backpack. The Pro Series is made from x-Pac. the x-Pac material is a water resistant lighter weight material. The only difference is you can customize it in Ballistic or Cordura. The Pro Series is being phased out. This is why you won't find the bag in stores.
The Pro Series (Lex) was designed by a bike messenger for bike messengers. Those guys haul a good deal of stuff and love this bag. But they aren't hauling two huge text books, note books, lunch and so on for a full day. Our large can accommodate 80 lbs of text books but we would never suggest you carry them all at once, if you can avoid it! To be honest, I would find it hard to believe that you wouldn't have the same problem hauling that load with a Messenger. Only, the strain could be in your neck and shoulders. But, who's to say?
Sadly, this is a non returnable bag because it is a custom bag. We do not offer exchanges, be it a stock bag or a custom made bag. Um, a Christmas gift for someone maybe? Posting the bag around school? Maybe here on Get Satisfaction? Just a few thoughts. If you decide to go back to the Messenger Bag just give us a call and we can help you out. Our number is 1.800.865.2513.
