Wanna be a Timbuk2 Weartester?
Timbuk2 needs more people for our Travel Weartesting Program!
Many of you on GS have asked when and how you could get to test Timbuk2 products. Now here's your chance. A while back, we started a discussion about travel:
http://getsatisfaction.com/timbuk2/to...
From that discussion, we recruited a few folks to help test our new top secret travel bags, but now we need more... We need some die hard participants, so here's what you need to do:
1. You must be a very frequent traveler
2. Respond to this topic with a testimonial on why you should be in our Travel Weartest Program.
3. I'll need a way to contact you- email works best...
Good Luck!

Inappropriate?I'm a college student, so of course I get to use your stuff around campus, but I'm also an oarsman on our school's rowing team. We travel relatively frequently to regattas and I was actually introduced to your bags via JL Racing's timbuk2 offerings. I've been using a Commute so far, but I'd love to see what you guys could offer in terms of a travel-type bag.
The Commute is great because it can securely hold my laptop while also working well to carry a quick change of clothes, a unisuit or trou and maybe a notebook for studying during the drive or flight. Something expressly designed for travel would be awesome, especially with all the frequent trips we make to regattas.
After rowing ends this May, I'll be heading off to Europe to study abroad in Spain. While my Commute will definitely be coming along, I'd love to Weartest a new product through the train stations, airports, security lines, and buses of Europe. Plus, a new companion to bring to the boathouse around here or even at the Olympic Canal in Barcelona would be great!
I'm conveniently located in the Bay Area, so let me know what I can do.
Thanks!

Luis, sounds like you'll be overseas for the whole summer? -
sorry I missed this. yes, I'll be overseas from the 1st of July until the 1st of January -
Inappropriate?Hi,
If you need a tester who travels via air frequently, I'm your guy. I just purchased a Track Daypack (still waiting on its arrival) and plan on using it as laptop/general geek bag, but if your designers have any ideas that might work better, I'm game to give it a shot.
I spend between %40-%100 of each month traveling for work, occasionally overseas, and almost always by air. I rarely work in one place longer than a week, so I'm definitely racking up the airline miles.
My suitcase (more accurately duffel bag) with clothes usually gets checked so I can carry on all the tech gadgets I use for work in a backback. I'd love to test out any cool, new, intuitively useful designs for either checked luggage or carry on.
Let me know if I can help... well designed travel gear is hard to come by.

I’m intrigued
-
This sounds good so far. Do you ever try to go with just one bag? -
occasionally... i usually separate my tech toys that i will take to the job site from the clothes i will leave in the hotel, but for short trips (two days or less), i might try to combine things and use one bag... i'm definitely not opposed to the idea... -
Inappropriate?I travel out of state at least 3 times for extended trips. I'm a dedicated photographer and pretty much live out of my bags and on my MUCH loved macbook pro. I depend heavily on my luggage to protect my equipment as well as carry my whole life in efficiently and safely. I'd love the opportunity to test out new products as I'm always on my own personal mission to find the best and most durable for my needs.
Being someone who is pretty much NEVER home, I think I'd be an excellent candidate to offer feedback on what makes or breaks great luggage :D
I’m very interested
-
Rin,
Give me a quick inventory of what types of bags you typically travel with. You say you take 3 trips per month? -
Inappropriate?I typically carry one bag for my laptop, Wacom tablet, and purse-type stuff (wallet, passport, books) that bag is ALWAYS with me whether I'm traveling or not, one larger shoulder bag for my camera equipment, A shoulder sling duffel for my clothing which I store in those space bags because I can't find anything efficient enough to store clothes without carrying the world's hugest bag. I do make some of my trips by flight also and prefer not to check my luggage unless absolutely necessary. My current duffel is a bit impractical for flight since I have to rummage through it to get all of the things out that they have to sort through, such as toiletries.
I do take about 3 trips a month ranging from 3-5 days each. I spend the majority of my time on the road and also trekking through all sorts of terrains for my photography (urban, rural, wooded, or a closed shoot on a set, you name it I'm there). -
Rin,
How do I contact you? -

Inappropriate?Greetings!
I've been a beta tester for consumer electronics and software many times but never have I been a weartester and I would be honored to be one. I am a roving IT support guy for a virtual organization of 150 employees that are spread all around the U.S. from a small island in Alaska to Maine to Florida to Hawaii. We are part of a government agency that manages 191 million acres of forested land so as you can imagine some of our work locations are a bit rustic. I travel way too much for work (I've only been home for about 4 days in the last six weeks). I learned long ago (the hard way) that with luggage and other bags when you buy cheap you buy twice (or perhaps three times) plus you stuff ends up all over the place when the zipper, fabric, or seams fail. Warranties are nice but I'd rather have stuff that doesn't fail. I've had good luck with products by other vendors (Andiamo, Tom Bihn, Red Oxx) and I wish I had purchased one of your duffle bags when they were still offered but I didn't. I would love to test the wearability of a bag with the same bombproof (Note to TSA: this is a metaphor....I don’t need to go into the special line to empty our every cavity of my carry-on AGAIN) materials and construction of my many Timbuk2 waxed canvas and ballistic nylon messenger bags.
The irony is that when I get home I really would prefer to just hang around the house but that is not what my kids want to do so almost every weekend at home seems to involve travel to a bike race or to go skiing or something. I can promise lots of use and lots of detailed and constructive feedback. I am also willing to sign a NDA and will honor it fully. Thank you for your consideration! -Alan
P.S. My email address is in my profile. -
I like it. Working where the Wild Things are. -
johnnyymac --- Not sure of your timetable but in addition to my frequent travels my 15 year old daughter is headed to New Zealand and Austrailia in June. They will be off to a new destination each day and I'm pretty sure that anything by T2 would be sufficiently "cool" for a 15 y.o. to use (especially compared to Dad's boring black Andiamo or Tumi bags) so if you want I can add that to the weartest. Cheers! -Alan -
Hmmm, don't see you email in your profile... -
Here you go: alanbarta AT gmail DOT com
I couldn't figure out how to find your email in your profile either even though I'm sure it is there as well. Email me and then I can give you my phone number and we can talk....I didn't want to post my phone number here. THANKS!! -
Been thinking about wear....fabric is probably well know for durabilty (abraision & strength tests etc.). Same with zippers. Probably the way we can benefit you the most is to discover if their are any quirks of the design that cause things to get caught in conveyers or that put undue stress on zippers, buckles, fabric, etc. Of course we can also provide help in the usuability. If permitted in those times when I am not on the road I can loan the tester to animals....ug....I mean co-workers that are even less gentle in their travels than I am. Cheers! -Alan -
Inappropriate?Still looking for some more participation here, let's see who else we can get in on the game by the end of this week!

Inappropriate? Here's a test: a trip that includes flights from Boston to Rome and Milan to Boston, 18 days of cycling in which my gear bag (cameras, pda, wallet, ipod, laptop, change of clothes) will get tossed into and out of the support van at least 6 times a day, get checked into 18 different hotels, and basically follow me around 24 hours a day. Then we'll do it all again for 16 days in France and Spain in August, then Tuscany in October, then Belgium in January. For starters.

I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I'm a DC Student and avid outdoorsist. I live just south of the Nations capital, Work just north of it, and play all around it, but especially on my bike and in my kayaks just west of it. I travel 3 hours to 30 hours for kayaking trips, bike races and other things that spark my fancy at least once a month and take bigger, further, longer trips no less than once every three months.
I live like a bedouin between my apartment and vehicle - always prepared, and usually needng to be - and my gear gets used, thrown dragged and generally brought within an inch of its life on a daily basis. I have once even SLEPT in a bag.
I buy only fresh local produce, and forgo the plastic produce bags. Once, I straped a roller duffel to the back of my bike trailer style and used it to transport a weeks worth of food to my beach lean-to on the Tayrona coast right along Colombia's most dangerous highway.
All of my gear is used for its stated purpose as well as anything else I can think of.
I will be travelling to 7 of the NE Rivers over the next two months, The Pacific Northwest in June and the Pacific Southwest in July, and Bogota somewhere inbetween.
I've been a Timbuk2 Fan for years and years (just ordered my fifth bag, but the others are still in operation, and have gifted another 4 to friends) I know what I want in a travel bag, but have as of yet not been able to find it.

Inappropriate?Would love to test out some travel bags. I do air travel about once a month, but during the summer, I am in constant commute between my home in the suburbs, the city, the shore and the pool. Between being thrown on and off airplanes, in and out of cars and down and the concrete pool decking and the sand of the shore, I'm pretty sure I can give your bags a decent test.
-
Rich, what kind of bags do you use in your daily commutes? -
I use a Commute. Just got a Commute Slim today. I've been slowly reducing my daily bag content/weight over the last few years. Which mean when I travel I put even more stuff in my travel bag. And my travel bag needs to hold several days worth of clothes and a pair of running shoes. I've blown thru bags at a rate of one over 6-9 months in the last two years. As a professional business coach, I sometimes have to carry training material, etc. and I binder corners tend to poke through my bags eventually.
I'm due for another replacement soon. Any idea when you're looking to have these bags tested? -
Inappropriate?Greetings johnnymac,
Travel weartester... hmmm sounds like I may be able to be of some assistance, so here's my 10 cents worth... I am an airline employee (long-haul cabin crew) living in London. I spend four days a week in South East Asia before heading back to London where I have three days to rest and fit in travel to see family & friends in Europe, before heading back to Asia ie. four days away then three at home(ish) - whew! Not sure what will wear out first - the bags or me :) My husband is a big Timbuk2 fan (owning several more bags than he needs methinks). I would be very interested in testing your travel bags, and can offer you a weekly agenda of many flights, bus travel, bags being checked-in (hopefully ending up where I am & on the same flight), cabin baggage, travel on the London Underground (being kicked across the carriage by my considerate fellow commuters) and ultimately slung into the bedroom corner on my arrival home. I've yet to find a bag that survives this treatment without imploding within a year or so! Hope this would be useful... look forward to hearing from you!
Cheers, KE -

I'll see what happens here. Living overseas makes things a little more difficult for our program, which relies on P2P shipping. -
Bugger... If we could work around any postal issues, I'd still love to custom design a punishing air-crew weartest program for you. I'd also love to try a cool Timbuk2 bag for work rather than the rubbish we get supplied. Maybe I could convince my husband that it would be a great idea to collect it from you guys personally - we'd love to make the trip someday, so who knows! Just let me know if I can be of assistance :) KE -
Inappropriate?I'm not quite a road warrior so I may not fit the bill as well as others but I travel (by air) at least once a month with a few sporadic road-trips in between and would welcome the opportunity to provide feedback that could make the best bags on the planet even better.
Durable fabric and well engineered construction are important but so is the condition of the clothes when they come out of the bag. It would be cool to see some travel bags with the T2 focus on organization and accessibility.
I’m excited
-
Tell me more about your non-plane trips. Where are you going, and what are you taking? -
I hope this isn't TMI, but here goes... The road-trips typically last 2 to 5 days in about a 600 mile radius from Detroit. I provide field training and support for a manufacturer so in addition to training materials, (spec sheets, brochures, DVDs, etc.) and product demos I pack work wear, dress shirts, suit separates, toiletries, and such. All of this goes into a standard roller suitcase and a 20" x 12" duffel.
The crucial gear travels in a medium T2 laptop messenger. This includes a laptop & associated cables, a hot-swap disc drive, several thumb drives, digital camera, MP3 player w/earbuds & cables, digital audio recorder, about dozen extra AA batteries, 6 or 8 file folders, a couple of Moleskine notebooks, an assortment of pens & markers, a BT earpiece, extra business cards, lens cleaners, hand sanitizer, and a ziplock full of single doses of OTC meds.
On job sites, I carry a stocked 16" Husky tool bag and transfer any necessary files, notebooks, and digital gear to my small T2 messenger. There have been occasions where the small messenger had to double as a tool bag and it's held up very well with no damage to the lining and minimal external scuff-age. -
Inappropriate?Hi,
I travel back and forth to France (where I am from) every time I have the chance.
Most of the time when we (me and my mother, sometimes my younger brother) get our bags back at baggage claim, we always have something wrong with them, whether a rip or a broken piece or roll and we always have to fight with the company afterwards.
I would be glad to try (with my mother) your new travel bag as we always bring a lot of stuffs and we need to get new sets of bags every 6 to 12 months...which ends up being a lot of money.
I am also a student and always need to carry tons of books, clothes, shoes, meals, sometimes a soccer ball, my laptop and other devices. And to be able to do that I carry everything in my travel bag.
In addition, I just got engaged with my girlfriend, we like to travel (and I'd love to visit every state in the U.S), we just gone back from a week-end in Florida, and we will need to fly to Tulsa,OK to visit her parents. We usually share a same baggage in order to get out of baggage claim faster so they are usually really well filled up!
We are also planning on moving to berkeley, CA in order for me to transfer to an other school, I will need to fly there several times to check with the school, housing, job etc.
Hoping that my profil will correspond to your criteria, I need to fix dinner ;-)
Thanks!
Ed

Ed,
How often per month are you traveling? -
Johnnymac, I am definitely not a very frequent traveler but I try to go back to France every 3 to 6 months, my mom goes every 2 months. My fiancee and I may do weekend getaways (plane or car) once to twice a month. Other than that I have to haul a bunch of stuff to go to school, and that I do it 3-4 times a week (I study acupuncture which involve carrying needles, books etc...). I also go grocery shopping by walk which often ends up being a suffering.
Oh also, my fiancee is a massage therapist and she likes using me bag to carry her sheets, oils and other necessities .
Thanks. Ed. -
Still waiting for a reply, and I have a trip to Oklahoma coming up in 2 weeks. -
Still waiting for a reply, and I have a trip to Oklahoma coming up in 2 weeks. -
Inappropriate?Ok....lets see. I may not make the cut for being traveler in some eyes...but here it goes. I do weekend trips to overnight trips hauling along twin 2 yr olds. I sometimes have to travel for work too...which can include flying or driving somewhere. The problem is mostly the traveling with the kids. I hate taking a lot of things, but with them you never know and sometimes entertainment is needed so a laptop or (2) DVD players need to come along. I am also planning on going to the philipines for a month long trip to visit family. All that being said...this summer is going to be a busy one traveling...by car...with the kids. Need a good piece of luggage that can handle my abuse & the abuse of the kids. Something that can take a pretty good beating and also be easy enough for me to manuver while trying to keep them with me & moving.
I already own at least 8 bags from timbuk2....and a bunch of accessories too....and use at least 2 of the bags and 4 of the accessories on a daily basis. My daughter also loves to use mommies macy to pack her little stuffed animals in it....so I gues that bag is no longer mine...oh well.
I would love to be a Mommy travel bag tester....cause even though I may not be traveling by plane.....every day seems like an adventure and a haul with the kids......but I love it and would not change a thing.
Thanks for listening.
I’m giggling.
-
Pineapple,
Are you a full time Mom? Do you have work stuff that you carry along on your trips? -
johnnymac.....
In my mind yes...&...no. My day starts by 4am and does not end until 10/11pm...if I am lucky. I do work 30 hours + a week for a company that I have been with for over 10 years now.
Yes I do take work stuff along with me on trips. I always seem to have a stack of papers and / or a laptop and maybe some books too...plus my other stuff & of course...kiddy things.
Hope this helps. -
Cool. How do I contact you? -
email or call....whichever is best for you? -

Inappropriate?jonnymac...I think I can help...
1/ Travel Requirements: I travel a lot. I have flown more than 60,000 miles throrughout the US, Canada, Europe and Australia so far this year. I will fly about 150,000 more before the end of the year.
2/ Testimonial: I travel a lot (did I say that?!?). And when I travel, I try to travel with as little as possible: Laptop, iPod, PSP, passport, pen and a minimal selection of clothes. Overnight or two days? I'll try to take one bag. Three days or more? I'll take a laptop bag and small roller-bag. Also, I am very picky about my bags. They need to be sturdy, good zippers, nice pockets that make it easy to organize what little stuff I carry. I go through poorly designed bags quickly and stick with well designed bags for as long as possible (until they fall apart at which time I can hopefully find the next model available). Beyond my travel/bag experiences, I am a software product manager. I get what you're trying to do and am sure that I can adequately report the good, bag (I mean bad) and ugly of my experiences with your product.

Inappropriate?Hi, Johnnymac. I am a security consultant and travel pretty much every week. In addition to the regular travel fun of airports and rental cars, I drag my gear through some of the most secure places in the country. I can't go anywhere without my laptop and all of the accessories, so I literally carry my bag everywhere. Anyway, let me know if you think this fits the profile you are looking for.

Inappropriate?I am currently living in France as an expat working on an overseas assignment, so I'm doing a fair amount of European travel over the next few months via train, car and plane. I love to travel, so do it as often as I can. Usually it's domestic when I'm back in the USA, but I average about one overseas trip a year, either to Europe or New Zealand.
I currently own 3 Timbuk2 bags, and use two of them all the time. One is my everyday purse and the other is a backpack with laptop sleeve that I use to carry my computer back and forth to work. My other messenger bag I use frequently as a carryon for airplanes. I love the bags and would love to help you test out some new products!

I'm a full-time college student living in NYC. I travel around the city by subway daily, and also travel by Amtrak train frequently. I'm constantly on the go! Next month I will be traveling to Florence, Italy for a 3-week digital photo course. I would use the bag to carry my camera, laptop, ect. with me on the plane and all around Italy. If not... I still have my awesome medium-sized messenger bag. :D My email is kairyuu at mac.com -
Inappropriate?Please make me a weartester!
I live in England and cycle 7 miles a day to work. I share very busy roads with very, very fast cars and my poor Timbuk2 bag has taken it share of falls, knocks and lots and lots of rain!!!!
Also, my bag takes me travelling throughout Europe and back to the States to visit the family. Last year it went to Dublin, Scotland, America (all over) and France. This year it's on it's way to the Lake District and all over Italy when my husband and I go backpacking.
And! Next year we're buying a new, bigger bag to use as a diaper bag! So, I'm a qualified tester and creative enough to make it work for new, better uses!!!

Inappropriate?hey there,
I'm a DJ and an academic & I log more air, train, bus, boat & car time than I care to think of, usually between music festivals, mountains and universities. In my spare time I'm a climber and freeskiier and I'm often combining all this together on some kind of wacked out trip -- doing a talk in the city, djing some club, desert or forest party, then hauling ass up to the mountains to climb (trad climber) or ski (backcountry freestyle). I use my old Timbuktu bag, don't know the name, it's an earlier version of the Hacker with hidden backpack straps but more like a messenger bag as it holds the laptop horizontal style with a shoulder strap. It's a brilliant bag as it has a deep zippered pocket by the handle which is perfect for the passport and flight tickets, and it has side pockets, which is great for an umbrella, needles (for the decks) and water (once past security). I'm usually hauling around a Macbook, my Traktor Scratch digital DJ system, iPod, headphones, water, umbrella, notes & papers, a small jacket, a DVD player, a book or two.... it gets tight real quick as this bag isn't that big -- and I'm hoping a bigger version of this bag will come along. I'd use my Messenger (which I use at home when I'm there) but the shoulder strap can be just too painful when walking around -- the hidden backpack straps are a must. Speaking of which, consider the option of -- the sacrilege! -- putting hidden backpack straps on a laptop messenger for airport travel. For the airport I also like bags (like my proper carry-on record bag) that has a sleeve on the back to slide it onto the extended handle of carry-on wheeled luggage. Just make sure it's wide enough.
Well... point being I'd dig to test out your gear and give it a good thrashing. I could throw in some cams (for trad climbing), the laptop, records, and a copy of Heidegger's _Being and Time_ and see what comes out the other end... probably some mess of techno & existential philosophy with an empty bottle of Wild Turkey. You game? I promise it will be (somewhat?) entertaining. Catch me quick as I'm off to Berlin/Amsterdam/Vancouver/Whistler in 3 weeks... then Montreal... then Whistler again.... then Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey... you get the picture...

Inappropriate?I too am a rower like the first person in this thread, so commuting to and from races is a part of my life. I also am a bike commuter, where I try to carry my 15" macbook to and from work along with a change of clothes and lunch.
In terms of actual distance travel, I'm going to be making many short (2 day) trips this fall by plane and bus where a carry-on with laptop and a suit bag would be all that I would need (for interviews). Hopefully in the next year I will also be making an extended trip to SE Asia, where a good sized bag would be very useful daily.

Inappropriate?Hi...
...I'm a frequent traveler IF by frequent you count around town and around the state. Most trips are day trips by auto or train with air travel 2 or 3 times a year. I carry a laptop bag that must accommodate everything from daily sundries to clipboards, business files and rolls of drawings. Not to mention any grouping of tools and misc. keys needed to manage the project properties involved...lol...I'm like the cowboy with his trusty saddlebag(s).
I luv your stuff and would gladly offer any input I could to set you on the right path. Hey, as they say "crit happens !!" Reach me at rktect2@sbcglobal.net
I’m ready to critique !

Inappropriate?Dear Timbuk2,
Firstly, I would like to thank you for offering such a great service to us by letting us travelers test out your new range of bags! I am happy to hear that Timbuk2 is working on a travel series of bags!
I am a frequent traveler within South East Asia making trips from Singapore to neighboring countries very regularly, usually more than 3 times in a month. I have been a fan of Timbuk2 for a long time and the oldest bag is still intact despite being a little beat up. I have used the Commute in Large as check in luggage if there isn't much to carry on but find that it is too small to fit a 15" widescreen laptop with more carry-ons.
I am now using a Large Timbuk2 Laptop Messenger but find that it does not have enough compartments for travel to put my travel documentations, cash, medicine and all other nick knacks. Furthermore, there isn't a formal enough look to the bag even though it is in black. You guys should consider creating a new executive range of bags that is made of customizable, genuine, leather material. I WILL buy it, no questions asked!
So far, I have not found the ideal one-piece travel bag for my trips and I will be happy to give your prototype bags a test-run, giving feedback and opinions.
Please contact me at gerald AT live.com.sg should you decide to let me try them out.
Thanks!
Yours sincerely,
Gerald
I’m happy that Timbuk2 is working on a travel range of bags!!!

Inappropriate?Hey Johnnymac,
I'm a commuter, west coast-style. I live in San Diego, and catch trains and buses to Los Angeles every day. That's 4 hours of commuting each day. Also, I'm an oceanographer, so my Timbuk2 comes with me around the world, both on research expeditions (all corners of the globe) and both national and international conferences. This year for example, I have a research expedition out of New Zealand, and also a couple of expeditions out of California and the east Coast.
I think I'd be a great weartester, so let me know if you need a weartester that will wear... a lot.

Inappropriate?Hi there! If you are still open for more weartesters, I think I would be a great one. I am a graduate student, outdoorswoman and avid cyclist. From February to October, I travel every weekend to cycling races, academic conferences, camping trips, and other assorted adventures. My luggage can contain anything from suits, dress shoes, and paperwork to cycling accessories and full tool kit. Also, I bike to work everyday with a heavy laptop, books, cycling gear (for the noontime rides), and lunch. This is usually transported in panniers and a backpack, though if the bag you need tested will work for that, I'll use it! I just bought a XS messenger as a "purse" and absolutely love it. It takes all the abuse I can throw at it! I hope you find me an acceptable candidate for being a weartester!

I do a lot of product demonstrations, training clients staff and anything else and everything else in between.
I use my commute for work and play. I would love to be part of the wearster program. I'm sure I could put your products through a lot of testing.

Inappropriate?Thank you all for being patient.. We are updating our "Weartester" program to include more bags and testers in it.
We will contact you guys by the first week of July. -
Hey Slacker, Check your email.. -
Inappropriate?Hello,
I would love to be a weartester. I am a Northwesterner, who loves to travel. In the last year, I have been to California, Mexico, France, Vietnam, and Taipei. Many more travel plans for the year to come. I am 25 years old and travel, at times, with my laptop, other times just need a good day pack. Also bike a lot around town. Let me know if I can help!

Inappropriate?Hi!
I travel by air at least once a month, and make frequent 1-3 day trips by car. I live in Alaska, so pretty much anywhere I fly means hours in transit and usually going through more than one airline hub. I've used lots of different types of luggage over the years, always looking for gear with enough room that is also easy to carry or wheel around, that helps keep stuff organized, holds up well to all the rigors of travel (including being thrown around by baggage handlers), and that LOOKS GOOD! Right now I'm liking some stuff by Eagle Creek, I have and use other brands of luggage, too.
I'm also an athlete and a mother, and a minimalist-wannabe. The athlete and mother roles mean traveling with gear for workouts and kid stuff, the minimalist-wannabe means trying to pare stuff down to the absolute minimum. That's a battle that I don't always win, but I've gotten pretty good at traveling relatively light.
My road trips usually involve travel to ski or wilderness areas (if I'm going to live in a state with 7 months of winter, I'm going to enjoy it!), that means lots of throwing luggage from car to boat or snowy trail or even to sled.
Right now I use two Timbuk2 cargo totes and a wallet. I love that your stuff is tough, it doesn't seem to show much wear (hooray), the colors are fun, and you've thought of really convenient features. I also like that on the cargo totes and wallet, there are just enough compartments and pockets, but not too many - too many becomes a hassle, seems to me like it can be just as bad as not enough compartments.

Hey Teri, Can you send me your email address? -
Inappropriate?I am a huge Timbuk2 enthusiast and make travels to different states in the U.S. and other countries very often. Currently I am living in San Francisco with a 2 hour commute every day and need an easy and comfortable way to bring all my gear with me. Outside of work I'm constantly on public transportation and moving about the city whether it be on bus, by foot, bike or car. Every bag I've owned before has completely worn - I've ripped holes, broken snaps, tore the stitching on velcro, etc. I handle my bags with love and care but everyday life just tears them apart!
Would love to participate.

Thanks!
I’m ecstatic!

Hey Ben,
How often do you travel and what "gear" do you usually carry with you? -
I do a 2 hour commute every day that involves trains, Muni buses, shuttles, walking, etc. Also travel by plane every few weeks. Carry a laptop, two iPods, cell phone, multiple books, two pairs of glasses and other assorted goodies. -
Inappropriate?Hi there, I am a post graduate student in Australia. I have used a few other branded messenger but none the less, most impressed with your product. I have been very delighted to use your stuff around campus. I travel to university everyday for 2 hours and do lots of traveling both in Australia (inter-states) and internationally for conferences and research collaborations. I will be seriously very happy to review what you guys could offer in terms of a daily traveling bag. The messenger I had is wonderful, it can securely hold my laptop and giving it an excellent protection.
I will be heading to Sydney, Adelaide, Vancouver and Singapore within this year. My messenger or the one that I am going to test drive will definitely be coming along. I am extremely excited to test wear a new product through the train stations, airports, security lines, and buses of many countries. It will definitely be my valuable, treasured companion.
I have a few other mates who are lovers of messenger bags and I am more than delighted to give them feedbacks on the test driven bag.

Inappropriate?So...has anybody heard anything about being a weartester?
-
Inappropriate?Hey,
Thank you all for your patience. Our current "Weartester" program is running the product line for the upcoming season - Spring 09. Our main launch will be our travel line. Over the next few days I will be emailing those selected, individually on your personal id's. There were certain criteria that had to be met for being chosen and this being the travel line we were primarily looking for people who fly at least twice a month. This was so that we can get maximum feedback in the shortest time possible.
For those of you who didn't hear back from us, Keep the faith! The travel line is going through its final stages and we are currently working on something very exciting for the fall 09 season which will preview on the "Weartester" site in the next few months. This will be a for a universal target market - which means almost all of you guys can test it.
"Weartesters" works as a peer to peer service, similar to Netflix, where you sign up for a bag, test it and then ship it to the next person who's signed up for it (instead of shipping it back to us). So if you live outside the continental USA, this may not work as effectively.
Hopefully this answers all your concerns, if you weren't selected. This being said... keep looking out on Get Satisfaction for our next search for Timbuk2 Weartesters.
Cheers! -
Inappropriate?Yo!
Beeing a father of three kids and working as an editor for the travel section of a Swedish daily newspaper I spend a lot of time carrying my computor, camera, books, clothes and and my kids things in the messengerbag on numerous airports, trains and ships every month when I'm on mission.
The travel line seems to be something I would gladly test for you. The messengerbag has so far been the closest to a perfect travel bag I've had but there is still room for improvement.
I know I would be the right person to test your new line of bags.
Regards
/D

Inappropriate?Indirectly I have already been a wear tester for you. I travel one week a month. (I own a leather company that supplies to all of the major handbag and shoe companies. Coach, Brighton, Juicy Couture, Polo etc....)
I bought the old commute about 1.5 years ago. I used it about 2-3 months and the velcro started coming off the body. I called and got an RMA and was sent a second bag. Shortly after same thing, stitching released and velcro pulled away.
I sent it back with a note and received my 3rd version. It had additional stitching on the velcro and I was told that I should not have the problem again. You were right. It works perfectly.
I have carried Ogio, Tumi, Brenthaven, Swiss Army recently but always seems to go back to my Timbuk2 commute or messenger.
If you think that someone who travels to NY one week each month, Hong Kong once a year, Italy twice a year and Korea and Brazil once each per year may be of help I would be glad to test for you. I am not hard on things. I am meticulous about how I carry and pack my bags.
Currently I carry:
New Macbook pro 15 inch
Iphone
Ipod
Bose headphones
Travel passport wallet
4-5 magazines
book
Usually 2 dvd's depends on flight length.
Then the necessary water bottle and sundries for travel. That is trip time.
daily most of same things but eliminate some bulk.
If you would like to contact me please powert33@gmail.com or 661 294 9985. I live in the Southern California area. Valencia, Ca. My name is Mike Powert.

Inappropriate?I am the perfect candidate for your Weartest Program as my job revolves entirely around travel for the whole state of California. I travel to each County and spend 2 weeks a month away on business. I love carrying my laptop messenger bag. I just bought a one of a kind laptop messenger at the warehouse sale. It was hard to switch out my other Timbuk2 bag as it has been through so much travel by cars, vans, and planes and has been a great companion. Love the durability! I have already been asked where I got my new hand painted Timbuk2 bag. I love to tell the story about the bag and talk about how great the bags are. My husband, who got me addicted, also uses his Timbuk2 bag daily for work. So, please pick me and I will be sure to spread the word all across our beautiful state!!
Please email me at angieberry (at) mac (dot) com.

Thanks, Angie

Inappropriate?I am a journalist, and an advocate for a non profit policy group. So I am constantly traveling. I have had a timbuk2 bag for orughly 18 years. I bought a Commute about 4 years ago. I travel with both of them.
I think I might be able to help you. I also know a few musicians who travel 300 dates a year. So, they might be able to help. -
Inappropriate?I am a college student, who commutes to school using mostly trains, as well as buses. I do travel alot. In the last year I've been up and down the east coast, as well as flown cost to cost several times. I absolutely love to travel and already have several trips in the works for the coming year. I've tested products before and feel that I can clearly explain what I am testing and I always have time to answer questions or report back.

Inappropriate?I would love to be a product tester, but I think this is coming a year or more too late for me to put a bag through its paces. I travel and do research in Tanzania and the UK where I have used my T2 bags as carry-ons, checked luggage, and computer slinger. I walked 5 Kms from my lodgings to the archives in Dar es Salaam daily for the summer, carrying my precious computer and research equipment in my 3 year old Commute--without incident I should also add. The heavy straps and secure fasteners meant my gear was safe from pick-pockets and looked austere enough that I didn't attract much attention. My Commute and Large Tote have seen me through planes, trains and dala dalas on three continents. They transition from the third to first world without missing a beat!
I have 3 totes, one in every size (all have traveled to Tanzania), they shed the red dirt really well and keep the bugs out of my clothes. I also have one Eula, another Commute, and two messenger bags (one that my husband was wearing when involved in a horrifying bike wreck). He broke in several places, the bag was unscathed! Can't image life, research, or travel without my T2's.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I do not travel nearly as much or as far as some of the other entries, however I do commute from Bayonne, NJ into Manhattan every day. When the weather permits I ride my bike to the train station and then take 2 different trains to get into the city and my overall commute from my front door to my office is a little under an hour (I timed it once.)
My job consists mostly of walking around Manhattan and sometimes Brooklyn picking up random items for my boss (office supplies, keyboards, film materials from clients) and answering phones in between. I currently own a medium sized classic messenger, which I find works amazingly, especially since I am often instructed to grab other things on my way back into the office.
I normally wouldn't reply to an inquiry like this as I don't feel I entirely fit the criteria, but for Timbuk2 I can make an exception since its one of the few companies I have a total and doubtless respect for. I honestly can't imagine doing my work without mine, and I'd like to see what else your company has to offer.
