Why is it that everyone that asks a question here is "cupcake####"?

Interesting. Funny you guys should mention it, we've been talking about the cupcake users a lot lately.

Cupcake users are a quick-post set-up, not exactly anonymous. We built this mostly for people directed to Satisfaction from another site, ala' Timbuk2. For those people it's a pain if you have a burning question and we make you jump through a bunch of sign-up hurdles just to ask it. The lowest barrier to entry is to simply ask for an email, and viola, you're a cupcake user. We send topic controls (Edit, Delete, I didn't start this topic!) and notifications of new replies to the email address. If that person comes back and uses that email again we bundled those topics together (so it's not exactly anonymous).

If they decide to upgrade to a normal user all of their cupcake posts will show up in their shiny new account. We don't feel that anonymity is very constructive, but we also saw the need for a quick way to enter the system. In the near future we're looking at ways to create an account based on where you came from, but still anchored in your email.

Now do I need to bake you some cupcakes?

we're happy to take suggestions for other usernames for our one-time posters, too. would you prefer "one-time poster #12243" to "cupcake #4234"?

or maybe we can name them from the company they came from... timbuk2-###?

I think specific names from the company which they came is cool. How much more info is required to be a full on user? I don't remember from my sign up, but I didn't think it was too much info...

Being a newbie to GS I was wondering. It became clear as I bopped around that cupcake was a default. A rather cute one at that.
