The new Toggl Desktop for Windows is a huge step backwards
Am I missing something or does anyone else think the new Toggl Desktop (widget) for Windows is a huge step backwards compared to the old Toggl Desktop? It looks like it sticks you with the Nano interface -- which I hate. I don't want to have to type in the project I am working on, I just want to click on it from a list and get to work. I thought maybe I could switch it back to "classic" mode, like on the web site, but I couldn't find the option anywhere.
I know I can still use the old one (and I definitely will for the time being) but it worries me that it's no longer supported. The old Toggle Desktop was one of the best aspects of Toggl for me - I'd not have signed up for Toggl without it.

Inappropriate?Hi Ron. You can select the timer that you want to use with the new Desktop. Just right-click on the system tray icon and you'll see the selection.

And about the support of the old Toggl Desktop. It has been bug free for some time now, so I think it is not a problem. -
Inappropriate?Yes, you can switch between different timers just by right-clicking on the tray icon.
It seems we need to communicate it better inside Toggl Desktop.
By the way Ron, it would be really helpful if you could give a few hints on why you dislike Nano. -
Inappropriate?Hi, as a long time daily toggl user (a couple years I think), I really dislike the new (nano) design.
The older version was easier to use, had a better layout, made it a snap to switch/add tasks quickly and didn't have these useless tiny icons that are hard to click. I could provide more detail if you're interested.
I really appreciate the effort in making updates to the desktop toggl client, however I would have expected it to get better rather than worse.
Also, if I hadn't gone out of my way to find this page, I would have:
1) Not known about the option in the sys tray and struggled grudgingly with the nano
2) Posted this rant as a comment on your blog post about the update, which I realized isn't too nice to you guys
Seems like it might not have been a great move to make nano the default, especially for users doing an update. For all I knew, it was a security or bug fix update etc...
I hope this feed back helps a little. I would like to give more detail about what I dislike, but I can't say I really want to use nano right now...
I’m begrudged

Inappropriate? Thanks for pointing out that the other interface is available! I'll give it another try.
As for Nano... my immediate response to it is that it just looks ugly (sorry!). It doesn't feel right. It doesn't seem as intuitive as the old version. I really really like having the little hierarchy of my clients, projects, and tasks right there to click from. Clicking Create A New Task in Nano and having to type in a project name or whatever seems much too complicated compared to a click or two. And I'm not comfortable with how you can click on past days and then click on a task to re-start it. Where exactly is it recording the time when you do this? It seems as if it's adding the time to the previous day's time which doesn't make sense.
Maybe it makes sense for the workflow of some people but for me it seems totally wrong. -
Inappropriate? We're working on Nano. It seems that different users have quite different preferences on what layout and features a timer should have.
We have happy users of Nano who find Classic absolutely not intuitive. And, vice versa, we have a group of Classic-fans who could not imagine themselves using Nano under no circumstances whatsoever.
The good thing about Toggl is that there is a freedom of choice. We have plans to improve and simplify Toggl API, so anybody can create their own version of Timer.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?I agree, it's hard to please everyone with a single interface (and I am definitely in the Classic-fan group). An the public API is great. If I had a bigger company I'd see a lot of value integrating it into something else that handles other parts of our business. But as a very small company I like that I didn't have to spend much time setting things up or programming anything, so I can focus on programming for client projects.
I think Toggl is a great product and it's really great to see how it's improved over time. I found it to be the best time tracking tool available when I first started looking for one and I think it still is.
But where is the iPhone app?! -
Inappropriate?I finaly found where to switch between 'classic' and 'nano' interface. But I still have 2 qustions:
1) why is the task list on my internetToggl not shown alfabetically? It would be much easier to find what I am looking if it was ordered.
2) I have just helped a customer to download Toggl and start using it. How can she switch to the classic look for desktopToggl and how can her desktopToggl be ordered alfabetically?
My (old) desktop IS ordered and is very easy to use so I did not like the way it looked when she downloaded. And ... I have planned to have Toggl as a part of my courses in 'how to work in a better way' but as it is now .... I am worried.
Toggl have helped me a lot! and I like it but 'the old way'
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Thanks for the feedback.
You can change the timer when you right click on the system tray menu. It's shown here: http://www.toggl.com/public/toggl_des...
We'll consider making the classic timer on the web act like the old Toggl Desktop. -
Thanks, I will try and then come back later this week ;o)
