Toggl Desktop lost sync with server and messed up all my hours for the day
My Toggl Desktop spent the last few hours not able to reach the server. So I closed it and went back in and when I did, I had more time then I did when I closed it, plus hours were on the wrong tasks. I had to go back in and manually move time around, though I ended up fudging the numbers because I don't remember where time was. That's why I use a time tracking tool! This is a great tool, but I need to use the desktop widget and I need that to stay in sync with the server. Personally, I wish you offered a version of Toggl which stored it's data locally and ran it's reports locally so there was no need to connect to the server. But, I'm not sure how many more times I can have it getting all out of whack like this.

If the widget or web can not post tracking time to the server, they will let you know with a pop-up window.
The Toggl Timer is not always connected to the server, it only connects to the server when data is updated. For example when you start a new task or stop a running task. So, if those actions don't make it to the server, the Timer will let you know, so you could be aware of the situation.
And, Tomas, about the tracked times. When you view your times from different places (Widget, Timer, Toggl Desktop), the times are always the same. Maybe the web (or Widget, depending on which one you used) just needed a refresh.

Inappropriate?My Desktop Toggl also lost the connection. I could sign in with a browser absolutly fine, but my time had been recorded on the desktop toggl. So, I thought I'd exit and restart, BUT when you "log out" of Toggl Desktop that is in offline mode (no way to control the mode it seems) it attempts to connect and when it fails to do so the only options are wait another 30 seconds or quit and get no record of your hours.
A simple (I believe) but significant improvement, would be an alternative option when quitting in "offline mode" to either :
A) Return to Toggl to allow the user to note down their times before quitting.
B) Allow the times to be recorded to a local file (csv)?
Either would have sufficed - a choice between them would be excellent.
Even better would be to store the details locally and sync up when connected as I found the online Toggl merrily recording all day against a task long gone.
By the way, definately not a firewall issue - was working fine & after exiting and restarting connected fine - I also checked my firewall settings.
Anyway, so far I'm V impressed overall , after a few days with Toggl, despite this problem.
I'm one of the worlds worst at recording my time & this makes it a cinch.

Inappropriate?Toggl Desktop could have lost connection while we uploaded the new 1.2 version of Toggl.
I agree that some improvements have to be made to the Toggl Desktop for such situations. We take your suggestions into consideration.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Hi Jannus,
Thanks for the reply - It's nice to know someone's listening :-)
Losing data is so frustrating - especially when it's important stuff like time recording.

Inappropriate?tbarra,
This problem occurred on 19. Nov while we were uploading the newest version. Are you sure that ALL the week is gone? Could you check from the reports to see if you have Monday's and Tuesday's tasks present. -
Inappropriate?Had the same problem. Toggl desktop widget doesn't sync it's state properly... so having both browser and desktop widget opened at same time is the problem by me...
It was today. And I also had some minor problems with my ISP - lost connection couple of times. At the end I had 30mins in web UI and 1:37hrs in desktop widget.

Inappropriate?Jaanus, thanks for your reply. I sure did that. Here is the "recipe":
* I see 1:37:21 in my desktop widget
* I open the web to see the report for today
* the webpage shows 30 something (+/- hour less)
* I thought that the widget only updates data when stopped
* I stopped the widget
* I started the widget
* I refreshed the webpage
* still same situation
I'm aware that it's working normally at most times.. But what happened to me I consider a bug.
I’m indifferent
