What would YOU like Toggl to be like?
Hi folks,
Today is upside down because Toggl Team is the one who's asking :)
We would like to know what kind of new functionality would you like to see in Toggl. It can be something new or some change in present functionality. Or do you dislike something particular? You can say anything that's on your mind!
Let us know, so we can improve Toggl for you and everybody!
Thanks !

Inappropriate?I'd love it if Toggl included an integrated invoicing application that pulled all of the data from a specific client or task, but also allowed edits to be made to include more or less info or combine items, etc.
-
Inappropriate?I'd like more file export options and the ability to select which fields appear in the export.
Love the new graphs, would like to see time graphs on a project by project basis and client by client basis.
-
Inappropriate?I'm an "amateur" user; I'm mentoring somebody at work, and instead of "logging" the time we work together, I'm using toggl. I really didn't want to spend the time calculating in base 60 once all the times were logged by hand.
My "complaint" is that it took a long time to figure out to use toggl. Specifically, I have my favorites sidebar open on the left side of the screen, so the little red button that can start for you on the FAAAARRRRR right of the website...yeah, well, it took a long time to find it. Now, I start my timer using the name of my "projects," but at the beginning I was frustrated. -
get the desktop application, i dont even use the toggl website unless it's for reports, and it's great. -
Inappropriate?I've been using Toggl for a year or so now and generally love it! My only quibble is that sometimes when my browser crashes, my data isn't saved. Let's say I've been working on a project for an hour and click the red button to stop tracking the time, then my browser crashes....when I start it back up, the "stop" command wasn't saved and the timer is still running. Or vice versa - sometimes the "start" command isn't saved, and even though I've been working along, the timer is still stopped and I haven't tracked that time. I'm guessing this is because the data only gets sent to the server every once in a while. Maybe each time the start/stop button is clicked, the data should be sent?
Again, this is a minor quibble - it happens to me maybe every week or two, but it can be frustrating because I don't remember exactly how long I've been working - I trust Toggl to remember that for me, so when it lets me down, it takes me off guard.
Thank you for the great new features and cool pie chart showing what percentage of the time I've worked on each project - it's a great way to see at a glance where my time is going!
I’m thankful

use the desktop app -
Inappropriate?I agree with the previous comments about invoicing. At this point, I have to take the CSV, portion it out into days, total it up by day, etc., etc. It's not a lot of extra time, but it would be nice to have an option to print out an invoice from the Toggl site or just choose how you want your data organized.
But you've all been doing a great job, and this site has been a lifesaver. Keep up the good work!
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate? Its a great tool to use. Invoicing like described previously would help. Too many steps when exporting to CSV. Also I use the widget on MAC and it seems that every once in a while when I stop a project timer on my computer it doesn't stop sending data to the server. I one project in particular where Toggl says I spent 67 hours so far on the project when I know I've not spent nearly a 1/3 of that time.... Any thoughts?
-
Inappropriate?Just a thought:
Being able to create a list of tasks for a team, so the team can register time on those tasks. Without them having to create the tasks manually (ofcourse they still need to be able additional tasks). -
Inappropriate? Some way of exporting to an invoice would be great. At present I break up my jobs into tasks and itemise everything I do with Toggl. Then I have to copy and paste all the individual task titles to make up an itemised bill for the client. Be much nicer if i could just select a project (or a portion of a project) and click send to invoice. And if Toggl could remember which jobs had been invoiced already, that would be even sweeter.
-
Inappropriate?I've been using Toggl for quite some time and has proven to be a great tool. We use this to track time and take the info and manually enter it into Quickbooks. A nice addition would be to have a check box or icon similar to the billable hours that would allow the tracking of whether we have entered the task into our billing system.
-
Inappropriate?I agree with everyone about invoicing. One of the things I love about toggl is how simple it is to use, and how efficiently I'm able to fit it into my workflow, so a lot of additional features aren't key for me. Great service, I've been telling friends.
-
Inappropriate? Our team likes Toggl overall. The tool has been very useful for us with work flow planning. 3 small quibbles would be:
1. Stability - the desktop version seems to crash quite often
2. As another user alluded to - tracking continues some times when the timer has been stopped.
3. A more robust data export feature.
-
Inappropriate?I would love for toggl to change how it handles time logged while having the browser closed. Many times my browser crashes or I close it forgetting about toggl, and the next day I log on to find my time is still going. This always requires me to edit the time manually. Instead I'd like a 'Logged X hours/mins while you were away - keep this time or trash it?' message.
-
Inappropriate?I would love to have Google Gears, or something like this integration. I work on a couple of Machines (Win/Linux/Mac) and the great thing about Toogl is that it works everywhere without installing anything. But especially walking around between meetings I sometime have no Internet Connection, so keeping track of my Time with Toggl is not working then. If there would be some way to quickly go offline and online again it would be worth a lot to me.
Besides that, great Product, and the first Time Manager I can really use!
Thanks so much -
Inappropriate?I'd like to see the project- and task-management side of Toggl expand. Toggl is excellent for time-tracking, even on collaborative projects. However, I still need to use a separate project planning tool and there's no integration between the two.
Either a more robust system for planning projects and their associated tasks and then moving those around among team members, along with a manager interface, or better integration with existing project management tools like Basecamp or JIRA would really make a difference in my daily workflow.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?New Configuration Option: Stop timers when you leave toggl -- A per-project or per-user configuration setting that lets users pick whether their timer gets stopped when they navigate away or close the browser window that toggl resides in.
One thing that happens to me a lot is that at the end of the day I have a couple windows with many tabs open (one of them is almost always toggl) and I close them all at once and forget to stop my toggl timer. I come back hours later to see that I racked up a ton of bogus hours on the task that I was working on last.
That being said, I love using toggl, and it frees me up to be more productive, Thank you for your awesome work! -
Inappropriate?Yes. FREQUENTLY, I come to work on Monday and there is still a task running with like 95 hrs because I shut down in a hurry and forgot to stop the clock.
Could you make it so that if toggl is goign to close with a task running, it asks you (simple yes/no prompt) if you'd like to leave the clock running for the current task?
Sometimes I just restart and the clock should keep running, but other times like Friday at 6pm, I just want to get out of here and have it stop the clock.
Thanks!!
I’m hoping for this feature.
-
Inappropriate?Yup, invoicing...
-
Inappropriate?I'd love to see some data portability. Extracting projects and tasks from other web applications and/or exposing an API for other web apps to get project/task information from toggl. It's a bit of a pipe dream, but it won't be in a couple of years - trust me.
-
As stated in FAQ, Toggl does have an API: http://www.toggl.com/en_US/public/api -
Inappropriate?I'm loving Toggle as-is, for the most part. Data export/report generation could be easier, but I have no specific suggestions there.
I use the desktop app primarily, and I love it. However, 2 small points:
- It crashes a little too often
- It lets you "add" a new project, but it won't let you create a new client to go with that project. -
Inappropriate?I primarily use Toggl Desktop, so I have fewer problems with tracking getting lost with a browser session. (I _have_ been having repeated issues for the last few weeks with Toggl Desktop suddenly stopping its tracking on its own. I've had some emails back and forth with Toggl about this issue, but so far no resolution.) I don't necessarily need invoicing, either. I have a full accounting system that I use for invoicing, so that's fine, and I "close" a project in Toggl once I've invoiced it.
The main thing I'd LOVE to see is some better reporting. I need to get info on a project basis, sometimes to create an invoice, sometimes just to report progress to a client. But with a hundred projects entered in Toggl, some open, some not, getting all the time on a project is sort of a pain. I have to go to Reports, to Project Statistics, enter a custom time-frame (making sure I make it wide enough to catch everything I've entered), then find it in the long list that comes back. I would VERY VERY much like to be able to go to Projects, find a project, and have the option to see all time entered against that project, with a single click, without worrying about whether or not I've made the time-frame wide enough to catch it all. (And of course the ability to then export that data if needed.) -
Inappropriate?Invoicing might be a feature which would prompt me to upgrade to the premium plan, as we've recently ditched our OTT accounting package and gone back to manual invoicing (!). However, I'm a fan of picking a core purpose and sticking to it - in your case tracking time - and not getting distracted by becoming an invoicing app/project management app. But how about doing the 'heavy lifting' for people to get your API integrating Toggl data with Basecamp, Freshbooks, Blinksale etc...
I think more flexible and customisable reporting would be a big improvement. I've made my own work arounds for some of the issues - I give every project a project number, then I can filter task reports based on that number to just give me the time of each project. I like to view project stats by task, not user (so I can double-check if there is anything in there that should/shouldn't be billable), so I'd like the option to set the 'project statistics' screen to sub-divide by task instead (or have the 'task' screen aggregate by project). As it is I need to use two different reports.
I'd also echo Offlead's request to be able to view all time spent on an individual project, without worrying about whether you've accurately caught the whole timeframe. If this was visible right there on the 'Project' screen - so I could just login and get an instant view of total time spent on a project against planned time - that would be fantastic! -
Inappropriate?it would be helpful when exporting reports would be done in an automatical process. the report should be send to an email address which is defined in toggl application.
the report configuration (which columns) and which value format (date format for example) should be stored in configuration part of this feature.
I’m tell me where i have to sign

Inappropriate?Support for Tickets/Track/SVN and LINUX PLEASE!!!!
You can use Mono or something.
Thanks for Toggl!!! It's Cool!
I’m Very Very Happy!!!!
-
I'm using Toggl Widget in Linux using Adobe Air. It's beta (alpha?) is available, if you search for it. -
Inappropriate?Holy smokes! Ask and ye shall receive, eh? I see that some work is going on right now on the Reports section. :-) (I logged into Toggl because Toggl Desktop was reporting that it was offfline...hehe.)
So far, it looks very nice. I'm hoping that I'll log in a bit later and discover that you've added the ability to pull time reports without having to indicate a timeframe. :-) -
Inappropriate?I have one major issue that is a problem for me, and one major feature I'd love to see implemented.
Feature first -- applying categories, or tags to tasks. Right now I organize my tasks by project for billing reasons, which makes sense. However, I would LOVE to be able to tag tasks as 'Administration' or 'Research' or 'Coding' or 'Design' or 'Bug Fixing'. If I could then see a report that showed me how much time I was spending bugfixing versus coding new features, and even better for the employees under me, I'd absolutely pay to get that feature.
The big problem I have is with Toggl Desktop. If I click the red stop button at the end of the day, and then come in the next day and simply start working on the same task, then it continues adding the time to the existing session - on the previous day! This results in my working 80 hour days on Monday, and apparently skipping work TWThF! I've noticed that closing and reopening the program, or simply starting a new task resolves the issue, but really I should never be able to log more than 24 hours in a day.
I’m hopeful
-
The tags feature should be available to tag a new task at creation time. Tagging things afterwards and with and additional couple of clicks is time is not ideal. -
Inappropriate?I like toggl & I've been recommending it to my colleagues. I'd be interested in upgrading to the pro version if the price was more realistic. Most of your clients are after all freelancers, not huge corporations. If the subscription was like say $50 a year I think you'd find a lot more folks upgrading.
-
Inappropriate?Hello, I just paid for my solo subscription to toggl. After using it for couple months, I am very happy with the product. But since I am giving a chance to offer my suggestions for the software, I would like to see two features in the software (if possible).
1. I would like to be able to add notes to a task. Right now I have only a description field for a task but is a task gets involved I would really like to add notes to that task. However, I do not want the notes to show on the list of tasks. If I want to edit or view the tasks notes I would have to click on the specific task and have an expanded view of the task including notes associated with that task.
2. I would like to have the option to specify custom date range in the weekly report. Right now the weekly report gives me Mon to Fri and I am currently working Tue to Mon.
Thanks
Overall I think this is a great product. Looking forward to see an iPod touch version of toggl hint hint :)
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Just seen the new reports in v1.2. Looks fantastic and just what was needed. Great work!

Inappropriate?dependability
-
Inappropriate?I NEED to be able to use Toggl offline. Check out OpenAir Offline for something similar. Open Air is great, my company uses it for invoicing, but it doesn't track my time like Toggl does, which is why toggl is so important to me! But I have to use it offline... I do a lot of work in airplanes, etc :-)
It would also be great to have a vista desktop gadget. That would be wicked cool.
I’m hopeful
-
Inappropriate?Offline support for Toggl Desktop is something we have thought about lately, so it'll be in our near future plans!
-
Inappropriate?I'm just beginning to use Toggl, so I haven't had significant exposure to its capabilities yet. Though there is one thing that I can suggest from a usability standpoint. When loading or importing new clients and projects in the web interface, I notice that they do not populate the task list for the Timer until one presses the Task List refresh button, or refreshes the page in the web browser.
In the case of importing clients/projects from Basecamp, after the import is shown as successful, the newly imported clients and project will only populate the web interface and Timer task list after a full page refresh.
I didn't immediately notice or understand the purpose of the refresh button on the Timer task list. It would be great if you could eventually program a way for these lists to synchronize and update automatically as new input is entered or imported. And if it's possible automatically synchronizing the lists to and from the Toggl Desktop program would be great as well.
I look forward to putting Toggl to good use.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?Another vote for Toggl Desktop offline mode, please!
-
Inappropriate? My team and I have been using Toggl for a few weeks now and have found that I am often switching between projects several times a day. For example I check my email (setup as a project) with tasks like responding, research etc in the morning, then switch tasks but come back to email later in the day. It would be great if when I return to a task on the same day a new entry is automatically added with a new start time so that a recalculate will not calculate the whole day.
Email 08:00 - 08:30
Email 12:15 - 01:20 -
Inappropriate?I'd like to restrict employees, aka non admin users, so they cannot edit the start or stop time of a task. I want the tracker to work as a punch clock and the user can request to have the times edited by Admin. It will help eliminate time tracking abuse. Right now they can edit it as they please and there's no warning or notes for the admin.
-
Inappropriate?I wish there was an offline application for mobile phones.
Data traffic on phone networks is still expensive, so it should be minimized; I wish Toggl had an offline client that i can use to track tasks, then choose when I want to push the collected data online (i.e. when I have free wifi, or I'm not abroad).

Inappropriate?Would love additional fields under projects...
Project Number:
Project Name (exists):
Client (Exists):
Project Lead: Which I would use for Salesperson.
Project Level Tags:
Customizable Generic Field that I would use for Order/Development
Project Status: Open/Closed
Billing Status: Open/Billed/Paid
Would like the ability to create additional reports/filters...
By Client.
By Project Lead.
By User.
Project List worked on during the month.
Ability to choose customizable tags....Tag A, Tag C...but not B
Ability to choose customizable Team Members...John, Bill, but not Anne.
Thanks!
I’m excited

Inappropriate?I would love a countdown timer associated with each project planned hours. I think it would be such a great feature that anybody at my company would start using Toggl.
-
Inappropriate?I've been using Toggl desktop (free) for a few months for tracking my own time, which I then enter into the TimePro timesheeting system (I work in a corporate environment and we use timesheets for tracking project costs, so have a slightly different situation to the freelance users). I really like it, and I'd like my department to use Toggl (premium) instead, but a few things are stopping the managers from switching. They'd like the following:
- Ability to control access for who can create tasks/projects (eg so regular users can't create a new project), and/or force users to select a planned task for each task they create.
- Ability to lock the time tracked for a week. We do project cost reports each week, so if someone retrospectively adds time to a project for the previous week, this screws up the reporting.
- An import function for time data (strictly a nice to have, but would make the barrier to entry much lower for people using other time tracking systems)
- Have billable rates applicable for certain time periods; ie if you change the rate for a team member, reports for previous time periods should use the old rates.
