DOA TomTom ONE replaced, new one doesn't update the map.

I bought a new TomTom ONE, which was basically DOA and the device was changed to a new navigator. When I got the new one, I could not update the device. How can I change my device to another one on TomTom HOME? There's an restriction of 6 months to change the device code, so the software won't accept the newer device with a different code than the original device.
