How do I get battery replaced in a TomTOM GO 700 is USA? or get TomTom Support to improve?
I have a TomTom GO 700 that only powers up after 30 minutes if plugged in. It will not power up without plugged in. I think its internal battery is dead and needs to be replaced. I updated latest TomTom software thru their website. I have talked to their support and had a very frustrating experience. They made me run around asking a bunch of questions back and forth for a week, got me fish out the sales receipt (who keeps sales receipt these days, but I found it). In the end, they say -- "it is out of warranty and there is nothing they can do to replace the battery or fix the unit". I have not heard of a device that costs several hundreds of dollars and mfr says "battery cannot be replaced and we won't do it". Actually I have had this problem 3 months before the supposedly warranty expiry date, but since I did not report it then, they wont do anything now being out of warranty by 2 months.
They have no suggestions for getting this fixed. They say they cannot replace the battery unless it is under warranty. They say they cannot repair it even if I want to pay for battery etc.
Any suggestions ?

Inappropriate?I just had a similar experience. I spoke with tom tom about a dead battery that will not charge and they told me they will not repair unless it is under warranty, of which it is, however it was a gift and my son can't seem to find the receipt. I was able to provide the radio shack store number and ticket number, per the Radio shack manager they can trace the sale of this unit using these numbers. Tom tom refuses. Which means this unit is 6 months old and dead. I may have to go buy a competitive product if this is the service I can expect from Tom tom, and yes I would be willing to have it repaired but they will not repair, they just want me to buy another unit.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Replace the battery yourself. A small straight screwdriver will open the back across the star shaped screws. Carefully pry with your fingernails the back top of the unit away from the front section to slowly expose the battery and it's cable. Now all you've got to do is find another battery like I do! I'm checking Radio Shack tomorrow.

I would love to. I do not see any screws. Are they on the bottom of the unit where it fixes to cradle and masked by labels ? or do I need to pry remove the metal circular plate on the back of the unit ?
BTW, I checked Radio Shack website for a GO700 battery, search did not find, I put in a query and they told me they do not keep it. I have not called battery Plus but checked their website - no luck.
The only place I found a Go700 battery is from a site in UK. Thanks -

Inappropriate?Actually I am familiar with the XL One. It has small screws in the corners, and I found two websites that sold the batteries for it for about $20. I figured your unit might be similar, so that is why I posted that original comment.

Inappropriate? There has got to be some way to pop off the cover on your unit. Since you have little to lose, I would pry around there first with something soft like your fingernails and feel for a point that will give way. What've you got to lose? In addition, I would not hesitate to order the battery from the UK if you get your cover removed.

Inappropriate? You have to take the front silver plastic off (pops off), take 4 screws out,
take the 2 screws out that hold the speaker in (you have to either cut or remove silver shielding holding speaker in, take 4 more screws out, cut silver shielding in corner, peal back shielding in middle exposing 2 of the screws, and then you can remove and replace battery using one of eBay for approx $20 (one that says it is compatible for tomtom go 300,400,500,510,600,710,910, but it will work the for 700 guaranteed, because I just did it).

I forgot to tell you that you need some very small flathead screwdrivers or the correct torx drivers. The smallest torx you need came with my battery I ordered. -
I have a few screws left over on my TomTom 900 reassembly. It doesn't look like the pictures above. I think I will figure it out, but if there is a nice picture of my unit that would be nice. I replaced the battery and it fired right up. I haven't closed the case yet. I want to get all the screws in place first. If I can't I'll used bubble gum. Dave -
This is perfect. I just changed out my battery on my TomTom Go 700 and it fired up, found satellites...now just waiting to see if the new battery charges. I also got my battery from megacapacity (but it comes from Hong Kong-about 10-11 days)...we will see! -
OK, I just ordered the battery from Ebay, my favorite site. Wish me luck everyone. Thank you so much!!! -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the picture and instruction, btw I got the battery just for 18.00$ from megacapacity.com within one week with free shipping.

Inappropriate? You can get replacement batteries on eBay, but if you have ever looked inside one of these things it looks a nightmare. The HDD went on the 700 I had so I replaced it but you need a T8 and a T7 screw drivers just to get into the thing.
The battery is shielded with tin foil and I should imagine a nightmare to get it out, but I say go for it upgrade the HDD to a 8GB or even 16.. -
