My TomTom One won't turn on!
I have a TomTom one and it is out of the warranty. On Saturday it navigated me correctly, but would not turn off. I waited until the charge went and now booted up today, but it will not turn on. I have tried the reset button, but that hasn't worked. Any other ideas or can you tell me where I can take it to be repaired?

Inappropriate?Somtimes over time you may find a few problems creeping into TomTom units, just like your home PC or Notebook/Laptop you may find it usefull to do some "House Keeping". The following actions may help:-
Run the Clear Flash tool.
- Download the clear flash tool from http://www.tomtom.com/6178 and follow the instructions on this web page.
- Once this has completed, switch your TomTom off, disconnect it from the PC and then switch your TomTom back on.
Run Disk Error Checking
- Connect the TomTom device to the computer.
- Go to My Computer and right-click on the removable drive called "TomTom": and select Properties.
- Select Tools.
- At the top, in the "Error-checking" section, press Check Now.
- Check both boxes and press Start:
For further information about how to do this, see http://www.tomtom.com/8324
This will run a disk check on the device memory and fix possible errors. Depending on the size of the memory, this may take several minutes.
Hope this helps -
My Tom Tom 910 also had a similar problem. FROZE UP OR WON'T TURN ON. Then they told me to reset..and somehow it didn't work, tried and tried for. I still have the safe software error on my Tom Tom...maybe should've bought from GARMIN. I heard Garmin has great support and better products. -
Inappropriate?Buy a Garmin with an extended warranty. My TomTom One XL dropped dead 8 days after warranty ran out. (wouldn't restart) There lousy service department said this has never happened before. "BULL"

Inappropriate?Same problem before with my TOm TOm. The customer service..told me 2 different things. Either I charged it more than 2 hours..so if won't work, then another said, I didn't charge it on time. ON TIME FOR WHAT? I was really disappointed because my 910 wasn't inexpensive, I got it for a hefty $600++ at that time. TOM TOM should help out everyone with problems like these.
1) locks up/ freezes,
2) Won't turn on.
3) bounces back to a previous screen,, when on navigate.

Inappropriate?ok guys i have had this issue from the day i purchased my tom tom
i have learned to live with it... i think it comes from the tom tom being run dead flat
and then it requires a hard reset by depressing pin into the reset hole. for 10 seconds often with the memory card removed after it has been on charge for a hour.
my family has 3 tom toms and all have the same issue.
but i recently found a issue where even after the reset i would not turn on... and i even charged it for a whole day ..
i had been depressing a pin into the reset hole and with no luck it would not turn on.
after two days of trying i was beggning to give up then i thought mayby it requires a better contact to the reset button than a pin.
i then used a large steel paperclip that almost filled the reset hole entirely i could feel it was a better contact than the pin
and guess what it worked in 10 seconds
so
1 charge 2 hours
2 no card
3 reset pin hole 10 seconds with decent paperclip
4 press on buttton 5 seconds
hope this helps anyone and everyone
im now learning that i need to charge the tom tom even when i dont use it just to keep some sort or charge left in there as not to loose its memory

Inappropriate?I take it that you are not using the car charger when in use in your vehicle.Dependant on your use of the TomTom, I find that I can get somewhere in the region of 2 to 3 hours use on battery power alone, therefore I tend to use the car charger all of the time.
One point to be aware of is that when you turn off the TomTom after use it is not actually off, its in a sort of sleep mode. If the unit is not to be used for some considerable time its better to carry out the reset with your paper clip.

Inappropriate?mine dies on the road.
tried all the stuff recommended by tomtom and it all failed.
bought another one (don't need to learn another sat nav in a rental in another country!!)
So at this point the device is out of warranty, written off and nothing to lose. The following is not recommended and no responsibility is taken for it.
When got home had the tools so I cracked it open. Had to disconnect the battery and speaker to get the main part off.
Some posts has said fried circuits so I went looking. Could get far and didn't want to break it further.
So I tried plugging in power - green light came on even without battery - so much for the green light being any help.
Pressed the power button and expected nothing.
Then it came up and started asking for SD card (obviously removed to get the thing apart).
turned off and connected battery
success again
turned off and connected speaker
success again
turned off and put back together
success again
turned off and put in SD card
success again
disconnected the power and the battery warning came up. weird because of all the charging to try and fix it.
anyway charged for a few hours - went outside and it talked to me and planned a route. not sure how long it will go for but now have a second sat nav.
also going over events we think the tomtom car charger was very hot and smelt funny.
However the interesting thing is the green light is useless in telling anything, the rest key is obviously for a soft reset, and apparently a total power off is required to reset a really dead device.
I wonder how many a re sent in for repair, pulled apart, nothing looks wrong, put back together again and work. Must be costing a fortune.
Hope this helps -
mine just froze up..i was driving and i was pulling in the drive way when i turned it off (or so i thought) when i looked at it, i twas still on. then it would not go off...so i tried the reset button and then it booted up and froze on the introduction screen...gahhh!!! WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP! I should have listened to my friend when she told me to buy a Garmin...live and learn!!
