No refund for something that does not work

Tom tom customer service is quite diabolical. I went to download a US map for my Tom Tom one having paid. An error message was then displayed telling me I had to download some software to my computer to aid the process, this did not work. As I had not downloaded the map I decided to request a refund as it was clear my computer would not be compatable.

Numerous emails and phone calls later and no refund, I don't want the map and can't download it yet Tom tom refuse to refund. Do I have consumer rights to insist on a refund? I will certainly never buy a Tom tom device again.
