Tom Tom GO 910 won't power up
I bought a brand new Tom Tom GO 910 from ebay about 6 months ago and have used it about 3 times, then left it in the glovebox for a few months. I came to power it up
today and the unit does nothing other than illuminate the green power LED for as long as you push the power switch. I tried to reset the unit by pushing a paper clip into
the reset switch in the connector / mounting bay but there is no change. The seller advised its a Tom Tom warranty problem, but Tom Tom won't deal with it unless I can
produce a receipt which I am unable to supply. Any suggestions for getting this thing to work?

Inappropriate? When you press the off button on the unit, this causes the TomTom to go into a sleep mode, so when left in this state it is still using power. If you intend leaving it for a long time, using a paper clip or tooth pick to press the re-set button on the bottom of the unit. Prior to doing all this charge the unit fully.

Inappropriate?Hi there! I have had this problem before. The only solution I found is strip down the unit. Take of the back black case, and disconnect the battery. Ther is a 2 pins connector to the battery. Connect it again, and it's working again. I did it twice so far.

Inappropriate?Had the same problem and followed avakulyas' instructions and it worked. Really sucks for the people without tech skills. If it continues to happen, I'm going to add an external switch to momentarily disconnect the battery. Thanks for the info!

Inappropriate?Or you can just follow my advice, that does not require any tech skills, thereby ruling out one possible cause. What you also need to consider is that avakulya and jc are having different problems to that of spanwnywhippet who's unit is loosing it's charge as a result of not being used over long periods

Inappropriate?Got a GO 500, had same problem as above i.e. totally lifeless. Tried:
1) pressing reset, 2) power on, 3) mains charger, 4) popping SD card in and out, in every combination about five times over but to no avail.
In the end, as greatfully advised above, dismantled unit and disconnected and reconnected battery, TomTom now works as good as new. I think that the circuit board must get "its knickers in a twist” at times and the only cure is a total power down, something the reset button does not appear to do.
Due to the time taken to dismantle, it might be useful to have a replacement rechargeable battery to hand (if, for example, the existing battery is not holding its charge very well).
Dismantling TomTom can be tricky but I found a helpful video guide linked to the website below:
