TOM TOM refuses to repair their products not under warranty
I cracked the screen on my Tom Tom GPS. Much to my displeasure, TOM TOM does not repair this device unless under warranty. Tom Tom cannot even provide a location where I can pay to have the device repaired. I have never purchased any electonic device that could not be factory repaired. They did offer me a discount on a new product. Even with the discount, it would be $100.00 more than I paid for it. I have had this product for only two weeks. The cracked screen was my problem but I was willing to pay to have it repaired. Once burned once learned!

Inappropriate?Hello,
So first of all let me say sorry for TomTom not offering a repair service. I sadly at the moment cannot say that it is a service we are going to offer in the near future.
However on a more up note I did have a look around and quite a few companies are offering TomTom repair services. The joys of the free market, if there is demand there is most likely going to be supply.
Below I have included two links I found from a quick google search. If these are not helpful please let me know.
http://www.dropvault.com/
http://www.gpsmidlands.co.uk/
I hope this helps, I understand how frustrating it can be. I dropped my first Palm Treo 650 a day or so after getting it while I was on holiday to a different country, so I did not even have my old handset :S While Palm offer a repair service I found a replacement screen from some random company on google much cheaper :)
Take care.
I’m hopeful

Just cracked the screen on my TomTom tonight. Tomorrow, I will shop for a Garmin or something else. Loved my TomTom, but I refuse to buy another $300 product which they won't even service. -
Your response is pathetic!
I have a unit that I registered online, and is less than one year old, and TomTom WILL NOT HONOR THE WARANTEE, because I can no longer produce the paper receipt.
It seems as if your company has no interest, or intention to support it's product. -
This is totally disappointing. I can't believe that I would be so stupid as to pay for a warranty that your company will not honor. This is NOT people being careless, but a faulty design on the company's part. I am upset that you will not fix my product, but am disgusted that a company rep would tell people that the company does not intend to even START honoring its warantees and even worse, to tell its customers to go to a completely different company to get service for their product. These are not companies affiliated with TomTom. Why should we trust people who are not even TomTom employees to fix our expensive GPS systems? Moreso, what does it say about a company that won't even stand by their work? Probably that their product is cheap and shoddy, which we have all found to be true. Spread the word people, Garmin is the way to go. They actually value and respect their customers. -
I wonder if Rob actually works for TomTom anymore?.... I have had nothing but hassles and rudeness from TomTom customer service. If everyone in that company is as unhappy and feels a complete lack of desire to provide help as the folks I have encountered I would be surprised if anyone would stay employed for this company for more than a few weeks. I actually ended up sending my TomTom off to Radio Shack for $20- I am hoping they can fix it, because as you can see by these (many, many) unhappy posts TomTom expects its customers to throw any malfunctioning or defective GPS they produce and sell just so you can buy a new one.... Once bitten, twice NEVER AGAIN BUY A TOMTOM! -

I just spoke to a TomTom Rep and well she couldn't even explain to me why they don't offer any repair service. Then she said that they could repair it if the product had been purchased within 30 days. Then she started to ramble about the years warranty? So I asked that if the screen broke on the 31st day that they would not repair it? She said that they would not. Will take my money else where when it comes to another unit. This company is putting on off others to repair their own products... -
Inappropriate? Both of the links are in the UK. You must send the product there for an estimate. I located one company here in the US and it would cost as much to repair as I paid for it. I believe that not servicing your products that are not in warranty is by design so the consumer is forced to buy other one and thus adding more electronic junk to the environment. The best solution would have been to replace the product. As you know (or maybe you don't know) word of mouth in the best form of advertising for good or bad. Would you rather have a satisfied customer or a unsatisfied customer talking to people about your product? To this day, the big three auto companies have not fully recovered from the junk they were turning out in the seventies. Today they make cars that are as good as anything out there, foreign or domestic but word of mouth has butchered them. My next stop is my3cents.com.

Inappropriate?I have the exact same problem. Real helpful people at Tom tom to say the least. Basically, they only consider you a customer if your product is under warranty. They actually suggested that I search the internet to find someone that could fix it. Wow. I almost fell over! Tell me how does that business model work? I hope someone with a shred of common sense at Tom tom realizes that this is a preposterous policy.
-
Inappropriate?Well, I too was blown off my chair when I found out that I could not find anybody, and tom tom not being able to give me a name or number inside the US to fix a small dent in my screen.
This company does not realize that customer service should be a huge priority. I will not support them anymore like I have, and the company where I bought this product will also get a letter stating my dis satisfaction. Maybe thats why they no longer advertise this product.
Tomtom sucks big time. Companies like that will go out of business because of simple things like this.
I’m pissed
-
I have the same problem =/ I have had my TomTom for 3 months and they said over the phone i was covered till i said it was a dented LCD screen then all of a sudden it became "Well we can send you a 50 dollar rebate check for your next Tom Tom" -
TomTom sucks. They will not fix it. They say go go
BestBuy.. I called Bestbuy.. they do not do any Hardware fixes.. only updates.
I went to this website and am buing a refurbished on

Inappropriate?I too have the same problem and I'm very disappointed to find out that TomTom won't repair my ONE XL S. Why wouldn't they think this to be a common problem and be more willing to assist customers? The gps has been a huge help to me, but I'll never buy another TomTom product.
I’m Disappointed
-
Inappropriate?I have had my Tom Tom for about two years. One day the power would come on but the screen would stay blank. When I contacted Tom Tom they said there was nothing they could do. I can't belive that there is nowere to send these things inside the US to get fixed. I am definatly done with Tom Tom. If I have to buy another product it will be a Garmin or something
-
I have the same problem. It powers up then off.Won't stay on. It's only a year and a half old but It was a gift and I don't have the receipt. They say sorry no receipt no warranty, and won't repair. They want to give me $100 credit for the next one.WHAT!! Why would buy another one? I hope they go out of business. I'm done with tomtom.
I'm pissed -
Inappropriate?I have had my Tom Tom One XL for just over a year. One day out of the blue, No Warning!!! I tried to turn on my Tom Tom and it loaded up then just shut off. I tried to turn it on again and it would just almost go through the tom tom boot put then shut back off. Now it wont do anything. I called Tom Tom and they said try charging the unit by the USB on my computer for 2 hours. Well I did that and nothing. Still will not turn on. They also suggested uninstall and reinstall the tom tom software. (HMM???? I'm not a tom tom repair expert but don't you have to be able to turn the unit on before you can uninstall and reinstall it???) I was told there is nothing we can do for you. So now what??? I'm now out 300 bucks that I don't have and completely lost.
I’m very disappointed

I puchased a new charger from Semsons for about $7.00. -
Inappropriate?I have a TomTom Go 700 whose battery is dead. It is technically out of warranty by 2 months though I have had the problem about 3 months before warranty expires.
TomTom says "They cannot replace the battery even at a fee because it is out of warranty, and they say it is out of warranty by 2 months -- nothing they can do". They offered me some measly discount on new products.
I do not think I am buying another TomTom. Where have you heard battery lasting lifetime of the unit ? I am not sure how they can operate as a business.
Anyone know US repair shops for Tom Tom ?

Repaires TomToms for $127 flat. see their web site videoservicestop.com. -
Inappropriate?I have a TomTom Go 700, that has worked well for 2 1/2 years. The other day, it would not turn on, or reset. Since it is out of warrenty, TomTom basically told me there was not a thing they would do to help me. I guess a $700+ product is a throw away. This is very bad customer service foa any company to demonstrate. TomTom has a new 'bad-mouther' of their products.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Anyone knows TomTom HQ or sr mgmt email/phone. The support gave me an address only as escalation based in MASS.
TomTom need to have disclosed their Battery replacement (i.e. not possible out of warranty) policy upfront - they did not. I have not heard of any battery that lasts more than ~2 years. This is not good. Most ridiculous thing.
Re - your problem, have you tried resetting (on the bottom using a toothpick or so) while plugged in to power and then hold the power on button for 3-5 secs. Then if it comes up, you may try going to their site and updating the app. Since there is no support from Mfr (:-(), everything you do is at your own risk !!
A sad state for all of us suckers..

Inappropriate?I have been advised by Tom Tom in the past when coming up with similar problems to do a re-boot by pressing reset button for 20 secs, then switch on pressing the power button for about 10 secs, you should see a start up similar to a PC screen start up, that can sometimes rectify problems.
-
Inappropriate?Just wanted to let everyone know that. Radio Shack can send it off for 20 bucks to get TomTom serviced. Hmm??? Also My power issue was my battery. I ordered a battery from Batteries Plus at 6365 Mayfield Rd. Mayfield Hts. Ohio 44124 (440)449.5555 the total bill was $30.16. It was a really easy fix. If it's out of warrenty and not working you might as well see if yo can fix it. I fixed mine. Try it. If you need to know anymore or just want to e-mail me at mo_burger@ymail.com also joel@geek.com was very helpful.
I’m happy. It works now. Service still sucks.

My battery was fried by a defective charger after 18 months. I am an electronics person; I disassembled charger and found regulator NOT regulating supplying full power. I purchased a new charger from Ademsons for about $7.00 Tom TOM wanted $20.00. They also have some other accesorries for TOM TOM at Ademsons. Now it needs new battery which I will purchase and install. TOM TOM said battery can't be replaced. Their answer to all service out of warranty is buy a new one. Rest assured if new, it will NOT be a Tom Tom.

Hi, I have had similar problems with the NON-SUPPORT from TomTom customer service. My TomTom is only 18 months old and seems to have some sort of short in it and is NOT working at all. I called TomTom and was treated very rudely and told that they dont service or repair products outside of 1 yr REGARDLESS of whether I am willing to pay them- AND that they still manufacture that product. Boy was I MAD!! They dont seem to care whether they loose customers either..... I work in technology field and have an idea that TomTom as a company wont be around much longer. Anyway, after reading about Mo experience I contacted Radio Shack and they are more than happy to have a look at my TomTom and repair my little road navigator. It really is unfortunate that the companies polices suck so bad because I do like my TomTom but I will NOT EVER purchase one again.... -
Inappropriate?Add me to this growing list -- cracked the screen on vacation and thought it shouldn't be difficult to fix -- oh no.... Tom Tom extremely uncooperative... Will probably buy something else...
-
For those interested, and with help from Mo (previous post), check these sites for batteries for GO700 and other Tom Tom. http://www.megacapacity.com/23921.html, and http://www.longlast-battery.com. I have not purchased it but they seem good.
Now I need to figure out how to get it replaced whether by myself or thru some place. -

Inappropriate?Like all of Tom Tom's customers - I AM MAD - that it doesn't work and the company won't repair it because my 92 year old mother-in-law didn't keep the receipt when she gave it to me. I will NEVER buy another Tom Tom - but thanks to wasdvd I will try videoservicestop.com to get it repaired.

Inappropriate?Same here ! How can you sell something you are not willing to repair? Where are the americain business how honor what they sell? They wouldn't either tell me where I could send the unit to get repair! What a customer service!

Inappropriate?I have a 2 year old Go 710. I spent over $500 for it. I wanted a high end model with hands free. About a year after I had it, it stopped charging. i sent it to TomTom, who fixed it under warranty. Now a year later, the same problem has occurred. When I called them up to have it fixed, I was told "sorry" its now out of warranty, so we can't help you. I was willing to pay to have it fixed, and again was told "sorry". I asked for a manager, who told me "sorry". I called customer service instead of tech support, who told me "sorry" and offered to transfer me to her supervisor who she assured me would tell me she was "sorry". Apparently I now have a $500+ hands free paper weight..... I will NEVER buy another TomTom. What good is a product that can't be repaired once the warranty expires???????
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Same here, begged TOMTOM for a source for a new ONE XL screen and was told no help from them. What gripes me is that I have the skills to repair the dam thing but no source for parts. NO MORE TOMTOM, Garmin will be my new replacement GPS
I’m very upset
-
Inappropriate?Just to let everyone know.. Radio Shack is able to send out TomTom's to their service center and should be able to fix it. I was told it would cost 20 dollars to send out but if they can repair it the 20 would come off your bill.. Worth a try I guess.
I’m Informed. But not sure.

Inappropriate?Hi i have the same problem. I am a truck driver and the the i use to make it stand on the window falls off and it still works but the screen is cracked.

See Phil's link above too.
This company fixes essentially anything wrong with any GPS. Their work for me was perfect for a cracked touch screen.
I do not think they repair TT LCD or batteries.

Inappropriate?TOM TOM refuses to repair their products not under warranty.
Even worse.
If you have any maps bought separately you can forget about them.
You can't install them on any other device.
So if you have an old device and a new map, forget.
TomTom says, that you can buy another one. -
Inappropriate?I had bought the tomtom one xl for a friend for xmas. Her first time using it before she even started her car the screen cracked as she was sticking the mount to the windshield. So now it has a big crack and it doesn't display anything right. When we called tomtom they told us that there is nothing they can do and its not covered under warranty.... they didn't even want to help or give us any alternatives. What is there 1 year limited warranty good for? This is very upsetting I bought a gift for a friend and now shes heart broken that it broken and she didn't even get to use it once! I swear I will never ever buy a tomtom product ever again and will make sure no one purchase's one as long as I live. After reading some of these posts I feel that there screen's are defective and they should cover it under warranty.
I’m frustrasted and angry

Inappropriate?I know the feeling, my son broke the screen on the ONE XL and we could not get TOMTOM to help in any way except to offer us a discount on a new one. I requested that they provide me with a parts supplyer for screens and they would not do that. I searched e-bay and found a screen and won the bid for $50. I repaired the XL and it is working fine right now, but since I worked on it , I have no warranty what so ever. Someone is hording TOMTOM parts and must be waiting for US, the suckers to make our needs known. I will say that short of repairing a circuit board one can replace every part of the TOMTOM if they have access to the parts. All is not lost if you can find a screen, its not that hard to replace. Good luck, Spider 5143<a
-
Please help! I am trying to do the same, can you give a few basic instructions on how to dismantle it my ONE XL? I have removed the back, and have the creen card off exposing the ribbon but cannot get the screen to seperate. Can you help? -
Inappropriate?Well I can empathize with everyone as my new tom tom 720 became my dog's new chew toy. Completely cracked all across the device and useless. Yet I am surprised that anyone thought the limited warranty would cover damage you did to the product. I bought a replacement through Tiger Direct and also bought THEIR 2 year warranty which gives you 1 accidental damage replacement (i.e. any way you break it, they will replace or fix it 1 time). It is better than no support which is exactly what I expect when purchasing electronic gadgets today. Don't buy the most expensive model and the burn will sting less.
-
Al, I don't think anyone here expected TomTom to provide warranty repair for damage. I know that what I did expect was to be able to pay TomTom to repair my few month old, still in warranty, 930's cracked screen.
Not only do they refuse, but they provided no information on 3rd party repairs. -
I cracked the screen on my TomTom while traveling in France and TomTom will not fix it, even when I am will to pay for it. They told me I could purchase a new one but I would not be able to load all the maps I purchased and I can't even save or download all the points of interest that we saved during our trip. In other words all is lost and TomTom has no support. Never buy a TomTom. -
Inappropriate? My daughter is having a similar problem. She is waiting for a call back, but we are not very optimistic. I have her the GPS for Christmas. If Tom Tom wont repair or replace their product, I will purchase another GPS but it wont be a Tom Tom. How can a reputable company not stand behind their product? Apparently not very reputable. I would not recommend Tom Tom to anyone because of this experience.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?http://getsatisfaction.com/tomtom/top...
My wife got one for Christmas this year, I attach it to the dash board and in first day of use, it falls off, hits the stick shift and the screen cracks. No biggie, every electronic company that I've ever dealt with in the past has at least worked with me to be somewhat helpful. To my surprise, the TOMTOM people didn't care, nor have any suggestions besides buy a new one. We basically got stuck with a $250 piece of crap. On the brightside of things, With this technology going to be part of our lives for years to come, we have at least figured out which company to never deal with. -
Inappropriate?me too! our screen is cracked too, we paid over $300 and it's like I threw the money out the window! Does anyone know how/who can repair it? It is crazy that tomtom doesn't take care of their product fuction and bullies you into purchasing a new one!
-
Inappropriate?tomtom's warranty/ customer service sucks. they should take care of their customers better. i have a go 920 that i spent over 600 bucks on about a year ago that doesn't stay charged and drops the gps signal all the time and takes forever to find it and they are saying its out of warranty and they can't do anything! i've updated it, reset it, charged it, and it still works like crap. i'll never buy another product from them again and i will tell everyone i know not to either.
-
Inappropriate?I am very disappointed with Tom Tom also. My Voice went on my Tom Tom and they said that I would have to find a repair sercvice on Google. They were no help at all as providing some kind of assistance. I am not buying another Tom Tom. I heard from several people that Garman puts out a better product. It sounds like to me that they don't want repeat business, only disposable products are offered by them.
I’m disappointed at Tom Tom
-
Inappropriate? Why are you people moaning about a problem thats not a manufacturing fault, you dropped it, you fix it!!and sat nav manufcacturers like garmin, mio, navman dont warranty there screensor offer a repair service(in the UK) either.i've got a tomtom go 910 i've had a couple of years which i broke the screen a month ago i bought a new screen off ebay undone my device unclipped the ribbon screen held in place with gooey stuff new screen in and works fine cost me £38.just fix it or buy a new one.

Inappropriate?well I have had some unforgivable problems with Tom Tom......
My Tom Tom Rider One, it works fine, but will not charge while mounted hardwired to my battery on my motorcycle nor will it charge by the cigarette lighter type power cord. It will charge in the house on the 120V power adapter. So the problem is a defective cigarette style power cord and a connection problem while in the holder with the battery cable while mounted on the scooter. I have talked to Tom Tom several times and they will not make any effort to fix my problem, give me a repair place, no help at all. All they care about is warranty and Just bull about resetting, etc. Won't even sell me a power cord or a new mount,/cradle. Totally ridiculous way of treating customers. No suggestions at all about the connection points or how to fix the problem which is actually caused by vibrations in the holder making little dents in the connection plate thus causing a space between the connection plate and the pins that protrude out of the holder clamp. I'm gonna try soldering to build up the connection plate to make a good connection.
I also have a Go 720 which works fine, and charges fine. But Tom Tom tried to remove the FM transmitter software when I did an upgrade to the software. This really upset me. They talked about some international laws, and I told them I didn't care about any international law, that I had paid for the unit WITH an FM transmitter and they were totally stupid about how to reinstall the older version of the software, but I figured it out and got my FM capability back.
So I hate Tom Tom. They are a bunch of socialist minded european elitists that want to dictate to their customers and don't care about what happens once the original sale is made, or the quality of their product in regards to service for the customer, they don't care if their product provides a quality service to the customer for a fair length of time. As every one has experienced, once the warranty is up, you are on your own. I couldn't really prove my purchase, as I didn't save my receipt, but I just figured Tom Tom would honor their product and at least attempt to fix it , especially if I wanted to pay for it.
So I will NEVER buy another Tom Tom product. Not any kind of unit ever. I have a Garmin handheld unit - a Rino 220 that has never given me any kind of problem and it is YEARS old, I did break the outside screen and plan on getting it fixed one day, Garmin WILL fix it if I take the time to send it in, etc. Tom Tom will NOT do that for their products. SO I hope Tom Tom goes under and all their executives get sucked down with it and loose everything they have.
I’m angry

Inappropriate? The Tom Tom position in the issue is an insult to intelligence and above all to fair business practices. Their position in the issue should be well advertised in the box before purchase stating:

It is a living example of corporate arrogance.

Inappropriate?I bought a Tom Tom 720 for my wife as a gift from Radio Shack online! WHAT A MISTAKE!!! It arrived with a mounting bracket that was broken. So, first I took it directly to a Radio Shack store directly and was told they could only ship the whole thing back to Tom Tom instead of replacing the little .10 cent part so I left. I just got off the phone with Tom Tom and they don't even have the parts. He said he did not have the parts available at all. I figured I had a lame customer service rep so, I asked for a supervisor and he said he needed my name, address, phone number and serial number on the Tom Tom!!! UNBELIEVABLE. It is against the law in the USA to manufacture a product and NOT have replacement parts available. Just one more company that will NOT SUPPORT THIER PRODUCTS!!! Never again will I do business with Tom Tom and I strongly suggest you call Garmin, NOT Tom Tom.
I’m really Pissed off. No parts!
-
I have a major problem with TomTom. I bought a brand new 920T from ebay and six months later it stopped functioning. When I contacted TomTom I was asked to provide proof of purchase, which I did. I was told there was no warranty as I had bought it from a reseller who was not authorized by TomTom. I still cannot get this device fixed in Canada and am really ticked off with this rip off company. -
Hey ! I had a problem with the speaker cutting in & out. Phoned customer service & got some bone head that told me to look on the web for a service location. I told him I just wanted to buy the part. He tells me no one has parts........WHAT? this gps is 1 month over the warranty & parts are not available. B.S. !!!!!! Next time it's a Garman .
ps. Just fixed it today with a speaker taken out of a IBM. laptop. Sounds better than the original. Most likely it is better quality. -

Even though I registered the product, and it's less than 1 year old (two year warrantee) they refuse to honor the warantee because I cannot produce the original receipt!
I will never buy another TomTom!
I’m extremely angry!

Inappropriate?my tomtom's usb port is loose and won't charge, nor take power from any source. I called their technical support and was placed on hold for almost an hour. After waiting that long, a recorded message came and said that their office is already closed and to try their website for any solutions to problems with totom gps. The reason for my call is their website is of no help.
I regret buying tomtom gps.
I’m sad, confused, frustrated and upset.
-
Inappropriate? My husband bought me a tomtom one 2nd edition for my bday last year, within 8 months it stopped charging, won't turn on.Tom tom says it has a 2 yr warantee but won't touch it with out a receipt!! I'm sure thousands of people get a GPS as gifts & can't always produce a receipt. Tomtom will not back their product or offer repair or service! poor business practices at the very least! Very upset! Will never buy or recommend a tom tom product again.
I’m not happy!
-
Inappropriate?4 years ago I bought the first RIDER (water resistant motorcycle unit) for $1000 USD plus tax. Never had a problem until this year when I stated to use it with the Car Kit - which requires you leave the memory door open when using - and the memory started poping out. I contacted TomTom for repair - same story - no repair but we offer a discount for a new unit that's not a RIDER. Are you kidding?
But what really gripes me is last Christmas I purchased a 930T for $550 for my girlfriend.
It is really sad to see a company do itself in like this. Reminds me of ZEOS and a few others I have dealt with that committed business suicide with unacceptable practices.
I predict that unless TomTom changes this specific practice it will not be in business much longer. I will be contacting Consumers Union with a compliant about this issue. See you all at the funeral.
I’m disappointed and sorry
-
Inappropriate?TomTom has zero customer service. Im trying to find a replacement screen but now the unit itself sells for $99. That doesnt matter though, because I'd rather spend more money and go with a company who cares about their customers. TomTom and their rip-off map upgrade fees is banished. By the way tomtom users...you can download maps FREE from Piratebay.org Dont support TomTom and their shady business practices.
I’m Disgusted
-
Inappropriate?I also have the same problem. My (just three days old) TomTom falled from the windshield and the touchpad cracked. TomTom's refusing to repair it under warantee, because there isn't a sign of malfunction of the holding device. I am still trying to let them repair it, but it seems they won't. They want 175€ for repairt pof a Tool thats costs 140,-€. LOL
So, allthough I really think, it's a good device - I won't buy a TomTom never again!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? There is a service that specializes on GPS repair and also fixes all TomTom GPS problems. The website is: TomTom Repair
I’m hoping this helps.
-
Inappropriate?I have had the ONE XL for just about 1 1/2 years when it just started looping when I turned it on, I call tom tom they said to reformat the unit when it wouldn't reformat the said I had a corrupted hard drive and that if I sent the unit in with a receipt they would give me $35.00 off on a new unit. the unit was a gift so I don't have a receipt, the said sorry there is nothing they can do. .
I’m PISSED
-
Inappropriate?I have a go 720 and the line out jack is inoperable. I didn't even try to use it until last week. I am willing to pay to have it fixed but TomTom won't repair it and won't recommend a repair depot. This is my second tom tom device and I bought one for my daughter. It will be the last. My next gps will be a Garmin. These things are to expensive to through away.
I’m pissed

Inappropriate?Well I guess the club is getting bigger, my One XL stopped working and TomTom said the the same thing "will not repair if not under warranty" and said to find a computer repair shop "yea right" I bought it at Best Buy and they won't touch it, then Tom Tom sent me an email saying that since they have not heard form me they consider the matter closed after spending $321.74 of my hard earned money for this piece of sh#@. My first GPS was a Garmin and it worked beautifully until it was stolen, lesson learned stick with what works and don't go with a company that has catchy advertisement I guess I will right this off and NEVER and I mean NEVER recommend Tom Tom to anyone, in fact I will make it my mission to shout out from the mountain top to all that will listen an I urge everyone else to do the same that Tom Tom does not stand behind their product or should I say garbage.
I’m I'm Extremely Pissed Off
-
Inappropriate?Since I cant get my OneXL repaired I' will be wiling to sell for parts, it has a good screen, new battery. the unit will not charge or connect to the computer software bt will connect to satellite providing the battery does'nt go dead, you can contact me at davidjdm@yahoo.com
-
Inappropriate?I bought a brand-new, sealed package, Go720 from an Ebay Retailer. After four weeks, well within Warranty, it failed with bad internal memory.
Here is what TomTom advised:
“Response (Warren B. (AU)) 05/29/2009 12:11 AM
Thank you for you e-mail, - The first issue here is that you have purchased the device form E-bay, thus it is a Second hand device. Your repair should not have been done under warranty.”
For three month I have, in good faith, attempted to resolve this issue, all to no avail.
Received numerous excuses, too many and absurd to mention. The last one was for me to provide a photo of the unit which is in TomTom’s possession.
TomTom has turned a supportive, long term customer into an enemy.
Has anyone attempted litigation via Small Claims Court or via Class Action?
I’m sad for TomTom people; the company will fail with this lack of customer support.
-
Inappropriate?TomTom sucks. They will not fix it. They say go go
BestBuy.. I called Bestbuy.. they do not do any Hardware fixes.. only updates.
I went to this website and am buing a refurbished on
for a great price. A tomtom go 730 for 195.00
https://www.refurbdepot.com/
-
Again, why the hell would you buy another one? TomTom has just chalked you up as another happy customer! -
DUDE!! why in the hell would you buy another, DID YOU NOT READ ALL OF THE MESSAGES ON THIS SITE. -
"karl" probably works for refurbdepot.com.... -
maybe becuase my WIFE bought me a TomTom for Christmas.. and She would be whizzed if she knew it was broken.... Karl -
Inappropriate?I have the same problem, a cracked display screen on my TomTom and of course, I got the same dumb answer from TomTom, we don't fix what we sell to you suckers. I will never ever buy a Tom Tom again. Hello GARMIN!!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Nothing new from reading the posts. I Have a tomtom one 2nd edition. It worked in my work truck, I put it in my own vehicle to go home and it didn't work. I used scan disk, I uninstalled and reinstalled, I reset it as they said nothing. They refuse to do anything w/o a receipt. I was told they don't even repair anything! I am more than willing to give my business to magellan or garmin or? I will never buy tomtom again and will *always* give my .02 to *anyone* that is looking to buy. This is a joke and the laugh is on us *after* our money is gone. What a waste!
I’m irate, aggravated and all around pissed
-
Inappropriate? The answer to Tom Tom is to buy their product via American Express. I they wont honor their CONTRACT (i.e. warranty.) Notify AMEX and they will reverse the charges if TomTom can not give a reasonable explanation why they wont honor their CONTRACT. Pass this on to everyone.
I’m happy to give back what I got...a screwin'
-
Inappropriate?hello to all here,
i have to offer a original tomtom go 710 lcd screen pulled from a working unit.
somebody still interested? its a easy fix to that.
greetings.
for questions, ipaq5455@yahoo.com -
Inappropriate? My battery has died too in my TomTom GO 510. For $25 I have ordered a battery and tool kit. If this doesn't work I am going Garmin - for each device they make there is a flat fee listed on their website to repair the device!
Hey TomTom from a service standpoint Garmin kicks you right out of the ballpark! -
Inappropriate? My xls is only a few months old and feel off the window and cracked the csreen and all they want to do is offer me $30 off msrp torwards a new one!!
-
Inappropriate?Live and Learn! I use these sites BEFORE I purchase things now. I too am stuck with one that needs a new rechargable battery that failed because their $20 charger failed and fried ti. I purchased another from a company for $5 now works only on plug in; battery only operation lasts 10 minutes. THEY offered me a charger for $20 but nothing else NO parts ! I bought a $5 charger and als a screen mprotector and sunshield to protect mine from your problem. Those 2 items were also very cheap. My last TOM TOM !!!
timtim
I’m sorry 4 U

Inappropriate?I have a similar problem. My Tom Tom stopped charging from the car adapter and will not work at all. I called the manufacturer and they said it had been purchased over a year ago and they would not service it. I even offered to pay to have it serviced and they said no. My husband spent 400.00 on the 720 Go and now i will be out of pocket hundreds of dollars in order to replace it. I am really dissatisfied with TOM TOM. It should be called CRAP CRAP!
-
Hey Lindsey I love the new product name.....CRAP CRAP!! -
Inappropriate?Does it work when it is plugged in to the adaptor? If yes, you may need to replace the battery. I had a GO700 (not 720) and earlier in this thread, there was post of pictures of how to replace. I bought the battery and replaced it myself. It is working great since January 2009 and holds the charge etc.
If you/your husband a DIY kind, you may want to get it fixed yourself. See earlier posts on places to buy battery, power supply etc. Hope this helps -
Inappropriate?8/25/09 - yes. I have a problem with a cracked screen too and cannot get a repair for less than I paid for the unit. Incredible. What a waste. I sure will consider another vendor.
-
Inappropriate?I updated my software on 8-309 and NOW my computer won't recognize my TomTom and it won't work. TomTom's customer service answer is for me to buy a new TomTom. My fury over them not offering to repair (even at my cost) is beyond surprising. My warranty ran out 2 months ago. If you can fix one UNDER warranty, you can FIX one (and charge customer) not under warranty.
If I have to buy a new GPS, you can bet my sweet southern butt, that it WILL NOT be a TOMTOM!!!! I am contacting Consumer Reports, as that was my resource for buying the unit. I don't want anyone else to be mislead by this manipulative company. If you have a product, you support it!!!
I’m pissed off
-
Inappropriate?if you're having a problem with a software update, this is what I did with my GO 720, the previous version is still on your computer, just remove the new version of software, and install the previous version, a newer version of software I updated with removed the FM transmitter in my GO 720, which really pisssed me off, Tom Tom said it was to comply with European laws, which I didn't give a shit about, I paid for that GO 720 because of the FM transmitter capabilities, ..... the process of reinstalling your older software is not that hard, but Tom Tom won't tell you about it.....
-
Inappropriate?I purchased a tom tom in December of 2008 as a Christmas gift to myselft! In June of 2009 the device just turned itself off while it was in use and I could not get it to work. I called the company and they say since I don't have the receipt they can't repair it. They don't event provide a place for me to go get it fixed!! I am a single mom that cannot afford this kind of purchases as offten as I would like. Now I am stuck with no device, no warranty and no money to get a new one. How unprofessional!!!!
I’m so mad!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Inappropriate?Did you try resetting using the hard reset? Depending on the device, it may have a resent button or a hole, you will need to use with a toothpick to reset while trying to put the power on. Good luck..
-
Inappropriate?I wish it was that easy.... TomTom kept freezing and then turning off over the last few months, then last week I put it on the dash and plugged it in only to smell something hot and burning... I unplugged it immediatly and then took it down only to see a couple of small sparks fall out of the bottom of it! BAD! Since then TomTom has been dead. This has to be a manufactures defect because I have never even so much as left my TomTom in my car when it was hot and have always followed ALL of the manufacturers directions and use of proper cables etc. Still wont matter TomTom as a company sucks and wont do anything to help!!
-
Send it to a repair centre .try here www.satnavservice.com -
Inappropriate?I have a Tom Tom 720 and a automatic message appeard telling me to connect to my computer and update my device. After fallowing the dirrections of the device I can no longer connect to my computer. So now that I have a broken out of date POS TomTom tells me I'm screwed and that I need to buy another device. All I need is the supid drivers for the POS and it should work fine. However TomTom cannot send me the drivers or fix my 720 because it is out of warenty. Do Not Buy Another TomTom ever. Lessen Learned.

Just bought Garmin 850 nuvi (after taking back the Magellan I bought ... after getting screwed by TomTom). Love Garmin - have lots of the same features that my TomTom had (like voice recognition). Get online at Walmart.com for about $215.00. Think Garmin was first to market with the personal GPS and figure they know a little more about how to make a quality product! -

Inappropriate?TomTom as a company sucks, however I really like MY TomTom. After raging against TomTom on this site I got some great advice.. TomTom will NOT HELP YOU! Look else where. I got great information from this site. I took my TomTom to Radio Shack Cost a fraction of what TomTom wanted (Buy new) and it works now!! WoooHoooo!!+
I’m Happy

Inappropriate?I recently bought my first Garmin since my TomTom Rider can no longer be used in a car without the memory popping out. Honestly the Garmin software is not as good, but the traffic alerts work well and Garmin will services all their units for a small fee. Its a true shame TomTom has no clue that no customer service means no customers. BTW I went with Garmin because its private labeled for BMW - another reliable brand that provides customer service.
-
Inappropriate?Not so small fee.
Depending on unit, repair can cost you up to $200.

Inappropriate?I have a Rider 2nd edition that won't turn on. It is only 9 months old but It was a Christmas present so I never had the receipt. Couldn't even pay for the repair if I wanted to. Horrible company. I have three Tom Toms, I won't be buying a forth.
-
Inappropriate?I have the same problem. My tom tom 720 go was a christmas present 2007. Summer of 2009 it would not turn on at all. it appears to be charging but nothing happens., I called tom tom and he said that it was not under warranty so nothing they could do, this tom tom gave me only 18 months of service approximately for the cost. I only used it occasionally, maybe at the most 10 hours of service.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Isn't that the craziest thing you have ever heard? I was extremely nice and honest to the company. This is the rare occation I wish I wasn't. It is one thing to have to pay for this problem, it is another to have them tell you they won't repair their own equipment. I owned my tom tom 2 weeks when the screen cracked. They wouldn't even get me the name of someone who fixed them.
-
Inappropriate?I purchased a tom tom 1 months ago it appears to be charging but nothing happens a few minutes later kept freezing and then turning off over. I couldn't find its recieve, so I could not get it to work. I called the company and they say since I don't have the receipt they can't repair it. I have a question about that. Let's say, İf I buy the same model TomTom but from another shop, when I take old one tomtom to shop, will they change it within 15 days? Please if you know the answer, reply me. Thanks a lot.
-
I would leave comments about tomtom's arrogance on Amazon and other places. This company has an extremely poor record. -
Inappropriate?I thought my GO5xx unit was great until after it was more than two years old and suffered through yet another Cape Cod wet, rainy Summer season. I called TomTom and was told the same as others reported above. Does anyone know where Repairs are done by third parties??? This is yet another corporate example of terrible Customer Relations. Sheesh!!!
-
Inappropriate?Ya I told the lady a TomTom if the windshield on my car cracks should I junk the car and go buy aanother one from the same manufacture? Same principal, they won't fix my TomTom cracked screen but are telling me they will sell me a new one at a higher price than I can get it at Radio Shack. They suck!
-
Inappropriate?I had the same problem within 90 days of my purchase. Perhaps you are covered by your credit card. I am applying for insurance reimbursement under Mastercards's Purchase protection plan. They cover items stolen or damaged within 90 days for purchases made with your card.
-
Inappropriate?I also have aTomTom 720 absolute Junk it cost me at the time$620.00
I was an idiot Don't buy this product, you wont be able to fix it if it brake there is no way to get support from the manufacturer, they don't care about your problem, or their product Ah but there is a way, lets shut these A____hols
down get on the internet and tell everyone what and what a rip of they real are. TOM TOM I,m coming to get you. CLAIMSAPD@AOL.com.

Inappropriate?I have the same exact problem. In my case, I had taken it through airport security and think the screen was was damaged because of exposure to the screening machine. The GPS works ok, but has some fuzzy lines obscuring the screen. Otherwise, the GPS Unit (also a GPS 720) works fine. I was told that although I was willing to pay for the repairs also, the best TOMTOM customer service could offer me was a discount on a new unit because it was out of warranty!!! Unbelievable!!!I feel like a fool trusting this company enough to pay over $600 to buy what was then their top-of-the-line product.

Inappropriate?I have a similar problem. My GO 730 keeps turning itself on and re-booting after I have turned it off. It has been doing this for over a year and has basically destroyed the battery. Tom-Tom Customer service has been truly useless.

Inappropriate?Hi
I have a similar issue with a Go 710. It switches itself on after it has been turned off! Sometimes it won't switch on without a lot of effort, and then sometimes does this reboot thing Bob reports a few minutes before me now. I have a 510 also, which I had a big email exchange with TomTom about in April. The unit says it cannot find the maps!?! TomTom says send it in and we will re-flash it (at a cost, which they do not specify - Why can I not just download the files needed remotely?)
They asked for a scan of my receipt, which is a fair request, but sadly it was nearly 3 years ago and I don;t have it. I do have EVERY singley bit of packaging and it is a unit in extremely good condition. You'd think they would believe I have owened it all this time, since I have used the online website since the first few days of owning it and they must have login records etc... I do despair sometimes of the attitude of some companies. Well, one more go, I've emailed them today, so let's see if they value customers who've spent £500+ with them so far in their short life. If they don't I will replace the unit for my partnerbut it won't be with a TomTom!
Paul
I’m frustrated, unhappy, ready to go to someone else for Nav!
-
Inappropriate?Tom Tom refuses to repair their products still under waranty! I bought a TomTom on June 9th of this year -- yesterday it fell off my window onto my floor board and the screen suffered a fracture. Now Tom Tom is calling that physical damage and they don't warranty against "physical damage". What's worse, I bought a product replacement insurance policy when I purchased my Tom Tom, and the Insurance Company also does not cover "physical damage" so I am simply out of luck! Any solutions -- I would pay for a repair, if that is possible.
-
Very same thing happened to us. Brand new 720 (used once) and it fell and the screen cracked. Tom Tom will not help in any way. I will certainly never buy another product from them. -

Inappropriate?Jocelyn Vigreux of TomTom would be glad to hear about these mounts that fail often. They should retro design a leash to safeguard these wonderful devices and warn their customers of this potential catastrophe. Once the screen is cracked, you have a few hundred now invested in a paper weight. That would be OK if it were a Stueben paper weight but a crime if it was an expensive GPS device. If this was produced as a video on YouTube TomTom would do the right thing, remember Apple's IPod battery fiasco. The YouTube video set Apple straight
