TomTom has discontinued the TomTom GO SDK
We herewith inform you that TomTom has discontinued the TomTom GO SDK. This means that TomTom will discontinue the release of any new updates for the TomTom GO SDK and we will keep supporting the current TomTom GO SDK until its end of life for our existing customers. Due to this the TomTom GO x10 serial cable has also been discontinued.
With kind regards,
The TomTom PRO support team

Dear Mr XXX,
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.
We have received a fair amount of feedback from end-users regarding the SDK: this feedback has been forwarded to the technical department for further evaluation. Although we cannot promise you anything, your feedback and that of others will be taken into consideration.
Thank you very much for your feedback.
With Best Regards
The TomTom Customer Support Team
I'm betting that's the kind of response I get here, but Rob Lazzurs wanted me to start a thread about it.
Dash Express is pwning TomTom in the apps category, but they have their own monthly fee for internet. If TomTom using the data connection could run apps that access your coords, like the Dash does, it would be a competitor in that field. However, TomTom has decided they're not interested in a growing portion of the market, apparently? It makes me regret, very much, deciding to spend $500 on a new TomTom Go 720 last November when I was getting lost in a new town (which I now live in, was home-hunting) and couldn't wait for NewEgg to deliver.
Also, the Dash has WiFi so that you don't have to always use a cell connection, something I wish the TomTom did so I could setup a small local area network in the car to convert from 3G, EDGE, EVDO, or whatever to the standard WiFi and let the TomTom use that, since I have no way to turn it into a Bluetooth Modem connection. But that's a different thing, kinda.

Inappropriate? As a former Dash owner I can say that the search apps are great although their choice of Yahoo Search was a mistake. The routing leaves much to be desired however.
If I was designing a gps from scratch I would use a simple interface with a choice of Google Local or YellowPages.com.
I had been thinking how easy it should be on a TomTom to access the bluetooth connection for a local search function. simple text in simple text out. If the outputs were ov2 instead of kml (not sure about yellowpages.com) then selecting one of the results to route to. I wonder if this functionality could have been created with the Go SDK. Dash does work with kml and thats an advantage given the ease of map making with google and live maps.
If TomTom is listening put a local search function through the plus services in the next navcore update. Then when you add HD Traffic to an area you can include that as an added draw. -
If tomtom was listening they would have responded when over a month ago I was asked to 'expand' on the SDK thing since the representative here had no idea what I was talking about, then decided not to respond. -
Inappropriate?Maybe if the thread is kept alive they'll respond.

Inappropriate? It's a shame that TT decided to stop the SDK. Many developpers where happy to add the features TT are missing, and now, the addons and the features are missing.
Since TT is not able to add the right tools to their software, the SDK at least permitted the developpers to add them.
