TomTom refuses to honor latest map guarantee
I purchased a TomTom One 3rd edition 1 1/2 weeks ago from a Wal-Mart and installed TomTom HOME. The map update service said that the maps are 2 quarters out of date. However, when I went to Use Latest Map Guarantee, it said there were no newer maps available. I have gone round and round with their tech support, and so far they are refusing to honor their guarantee. They wanted me to send them serial number, software version, map version, etc. (which they should have already had stored in my account profile) so I did. Then they said they wanted a copy of proof of purchase. I searched for my Wal-Mart sales slip, but found that it had been discarded.
Reading over the guarantee, I noticed that it states the 30 days starts when you first use the device, so I told them they could check my TomTom account and it should show when I first registered my device. It's been 2 days since then, and I still haven't heard back from them. I have not been able to find a way to get my complaint to anyone higher up in the company.

Inappropriate?I have had the same problem! My map was 4 quarters out of date and they refuse to honor it. My question to them was why would you want a new customer's experience to begin with a unit that has obviously been on the shelves for awhile with a map that is so out of date. Their solution of course is to buy the latest map. I told them I just spent $400 on a new unit why should I have to pay another $60 to update it? The bottom line is that Tom Tom does not value it's customers.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I've since returned mine to Best Buy. They were very willing to assist (excellent customer service from Best Buy on this issue). I now have a nice Garmin and I'm much happier. Tomtom -- you've lost this customer forever.
