Cannot load dll or dylib file
If you try to run one of our Photoshop plug-ins and it gives you a message similar to "Cannot load libtliadjust.2.5.dylib", the problem is probably caused by a leftover old version in your Photoshop Plug-Ins folder.
To solve the problem, go to your Photoshop Plug-Ins folder.
Find it in Windows here:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CSx\Plug-Ins
Find it in Mac here:
Applications/Photoshop CSx/Plug-Ins
Manually delete anything that has to do with the Topaz product in question. For example, if the product Topaz Adjust was giving you this error message, delete anything that says TopazAdjust, Topaz_adjust.plugin, or tladjust.8bf... you get the idea. Sometimes it may also be hidden in a subfolder labeled "Presets".
To make sure that it's completely gone, restart Photoshop and make sure you cannot see the filter in the Filters menu. If you can still see it, there's still a plug-in file left over in the Photoshop Plug-Ins folder that you haven't deleted yet.
Afterward, re-install using the new installer and everything will run fine.
---
For Mac users, there's a second possibility: you might be running Photoshop in Rosetta. Topaz products only work natively and are not supported by Rosetta. To check, go to Applications/Adobe Photoshop CSx and Get Info on the Photoshop CSx application. Make sure the Open in Rosetta icon is unchecked.

Inappropriate? There seems to be a third possibility with Mac OS X. I was having trouble with CS4 crashing when trying to print, so I decided to try the single-processor version of libtliadjust.2.6.dylib (as Eric describes in another suggestion). It didn't seem to work for me, but it did slow down processing, so I tried to reinstall the original library file. I then started getting the "cannot load dll file" error. When I rebooted the computer and reinstalled Topaz Adjust 2.6, I continued to get the error.
Using muCommander --- which lets me see the root directory and other low level directories hidden by OS X --- I discovered that I could *delete* the file I no longer wanted, but could not *copy* a file --- *any* file --- to /usr/lib/. It seems odd that I could delete something from a directory but could not write or copy to that directory.
Eventually I went through the Topaz Adjust installation file with a program that let me extract all of the plugins and libraries. I then copied everything into place by hand, this time using the Terminal and first issuing the command "SUDO -S". That made me a temporary "SuperUser", and I could copy the file into /usr/lib/.
With all of the plugins and library files with the correct dates (i.e. the ones in the installation package), everything was file.
I have no idea what was or is wrong with /usr/lib/. It sounds like a permission issue, but I don't see how that could account for my being able to delete files but not write them.
I’m puzzled

Inappropriate?I am not running an old version, I am not running in Rosetta but I am getting this message in CS2 for mac - could not complete the topaz simplify command because cannot load libtlisimplify. 1.0.dylib.
I’m frustrated !

Hi John,
Topaz products for Macs are only compatible with Photoshop CS3 and above, or Photoshop Elements 6 and above. See compatibility page.
Thanks,

Inappropriate?Hi Eric,
Bought your DeNoise,Simplify and Adjust bundle. Realise it will not run in Rosetta now, but didnt before I downloaded files. Removed Topaz from the plug ins folder, so cannot see them now, BUT CS3 will now ONLY run in Rosetta. I had hoped to be able to switch between Rosetta for my other plug ins, and normal mode for the Topaz plug ins. (It did run in both normal and Rosetta mode before installing Topaz bye the way.)
Have I done something wrong to corrupt CS£ do you think?
Thanks
Hilda
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?OK, but when I have installed it in normal mode, can I switch to Rosetta for my other plug ins, and then back to Topaz via normal mode?
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Hi Hilda,
You should be able to switch back and forth between Rosetta and non-Rosetta CS3 by right-clicking the Adobe Photoshop CS3 application and clicking Get Info.
It's perfectly fine to switch out of Rosetta when you're using Topaz plug-ins and then switching back into it when you're using the older plug-ins. Just be sure to close Photoshop as you're doing it.
Best,
Eric
