I prefer the original Topaz Adjust presets

Inappropriate? We improved the underlying code for the Exposure tab from v2.3, so the original presets won't work with the new ones. I've tried to make them as close as possible to the ones before, but it may not be perfect. (The most noticeable changes are to the Highlight and Shadow parameters.)
You should be able to reproduce the original presets with the current software, but it won't be the exact same settings as before. Sorry for the inconvenience... which preset were you trying to get and what was the problem?
Thanks
Eric
-
Inappropriate?I've noticed a change with all the presets ... I asked another designer/photograher and they noticed them too. I can take an original camera raw photo, run it through a preset (i.e., Simplify) and the results do not look like those before. It is the same with psychadelic, detailed, vibrance and dramatic ... my photos do not come out with same results ... it is sad, but I can live with it ... I still LOVE Topaz! Thanks so much!
I’m disappointed, but can live with it.
-
Inappropriate?Sorry Marjorie...
Are the new results that much worse? We tried to make the results a bit more natural-looking, although u can still get the old results with a bit of tweaking. How would you like to see them?
-
Inappropriate?Well, the simplify is just awful now ... before the upgrade, the results I was getting with skin tones was incredible and I was getting asked how, so I was referring everyone to Topaz Labs ... now ... not at all ... it seems to increase faults (such as dark circles under eyes, etc.). It really is no big deal, I'll mess with the settings until I get it, then I'll save my changes. My original reason for asking was just to see if you had them so I could use them without having to spend the time finding what they are. I will say though, I am getting incredible results on some shots (see image on 4-wheeler). Thanks!
I've attached a before/after upgrade pic of a simplify preset.

I’m complacent.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Marjorie,
I've uploaded some new presets that will definitely improve your results. Download them here.
To install on Windows, drop the file into your Topaz Adjust Presets folder (usually C:\Program Files\Topaz Labs\Topaz Adjust\Presets). Mac users, please do not install these - they'll be included when v2.4 comes out for Mac.
There's some new ones in there, and Simplify should work much, much better. I've also organized them. You were right, the presets had something wrong with them ;) If you have time, let me know what you think!
Thanks
Eric
I’m happy
-
I just tried to download the presets and all I get is that html code that margorie is talking about. I am totally bummed. I wish I had 2.3 setup so I could put the old one back on. -
Inappropriate?Hey, that is not a download ... html code looks like ... how do I proceed?
Thanks so much!
I’m excited to try it out!
-
Inappropriate? It does kind of look like html code. I think your browser is trying to open it rather than download it. Right click the link and click "Save Link As..." and make sure it's named AdjustPreset1.tpp. Drop it into the Presets directory and you're all set!
Eric
-
Inappropriate?OK, one last thing ... I downloaded it and saved it over the AdjustPreset1.tpp, when I apply the simplify filter I get the exact same results ... (I also have an AdjustPreset2.tpp out there could this be why?)
Thanks so much!
I’m confused.
-
Inappropriate? You can delete my prior post. I discovered the problem. I downloaded the revised presets to Topaz Adjust version 2.3. Please tell everyone they must upgrade to version 2.4 before using your adjusted set of pre-sets.
I think I am going to like version 2.4!
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?I'm not sure i want to run this update. I Like the way 2.3 functions now. I Like that it preserves detail and that some of the presets make the photo look like a painting. What should I do?
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate? You can always keep V2.3 if you like it. It is just too slow for some people.
The exposure engine in V2.4 can be seen as a super set of V2.3, it is just that the parameters behave differently. After you use V2.4 for a while, you should be able to create the same effect as V2.3.
In terms of noise, lease try the Topaz DeNoise, due out next week. It is much better than what is in V2.3. After you clean up the noise with DeNoise, you should be able to produce as good result as V2.3 using V2.4, if not better. -
Inappropriate?Oh and Marjorie, if you still can't find the presets, try completely uninstalling Topaz Adjust and then downloading v2.4 from here. It includes the new presets so after you install it you should be good to go.
-
Inappropriate?NO! The new version (2.4) is a big step back from 2.3. I have several examples of images converted in 2.3 that look much worse in 2.4.
With tweaking we can make the new adjustments look like the old? Did you ever hear of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it?"
I'm going to remove this version & reinstall 2.3 & hope it works. It was a great buy originally but I wouldn't have touched this version, sorry. Next time maybe try a beta version.
I’m very disappointed!
-
Inappropriate?I just tried to load in PS7 and it won't evenload in. i get an error message: "Can't load in tliadjust23.dll
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?@inframan
Sorry that it didn't seem to have worked out for you! We try to improve every release, but of course improvement is subject to interpretation. Feel free to keep v2.3. (Maybe v2.5 will appeal to you!) Thanks for the feedback.
@Rob
Try going to Add/Remove Programs and completely uninstalling Topaz Adjust v2.3 and v2.4. Then re-install v2.4 cleanly and it should work fine.
Best,
Eric
-
Inappropriate? The new version is horrible. Don't load it. You've just ruined the best software i've found in a while. Please help me to get the old version back. Very disappointed!!!!!!!!!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Woops. I'll post the old-version link after I get it up. In the meantime, could you tell me what's the problem you're having with the new version?
Several people have emailed me (thank you, by the way) about how they like v2.4 a lot more than v2.3, but I can see that the sentiment isn't universal. If you give us some idea as to what you want, we'll try to make it better for everyone in later versions.
-
Inappropriate?honestley eric, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if you can't see the difference................ you had a very unique piece of software, and i think you were misdirected on what improvements the users were looking for. If you were looking for speed, let the user determine how much noise reduction processing they are willing to put up with, or release the noise reduction software before releasing a new version of "adjust" so we can see how the work together. This new version is just not the same program.
-
Inappropriate?Sorry, I'm not trying to be a jerk either, but it just keeps getting worse! I would not buy this software now ... I loved the original and found myself using it on everything ... it truly was an incredible and unique plug in ... now, I think I'll just spend the money for lucisart.
Adjust was not broke ... slow, yes, not broke ... and you didn't fix it ... you have created a completely new product.
And, if you cannot see the differences now ... i will gladly send you all my before/after comparisions.
-
Inappropriate? Please do send the before/after pictures. We will see what might be wrong and certainly address the issues. Again I really appreciate your help.
-
Inappropriate? If you are asking me to send you before/after pics, you must be kidding. I can't afford the time. I took you at your word that the new version was an improvement. You were way wrong. I recommended this product to a lot of people. I was wrong. Next time, as I suggested before, run a beta test, like a professional company.
I’m pi$$ed
-
Inappropriate? After loading the V24 of adjust, I can't get it work in PS7, i keep getting an error message: Can not load iladjust23.dll . So I removed the topaz program completely and reloaded it. Guess what It does it time and again. Anyway I can just get the old version back until you perfect this one?? can help me figure it out. But I've deleted the program and reloaded it several times now
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Well, I'm pulling for you Eric. Ver 2.3 is a great tool and I use it constantly. I downloaded version 2.4 but have not tired it yet.
Rob, have you tried using "System Restore" (assuming you're on a Windows machine)
Sometimes when a program gets completely messed up it's the only way to get it back to a working state. Just be sure to back up any files that were created after the restore date you pick.
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?i was able to reload 2.3 be reomoving 2.4 and finding the original setup file 2.3 and reinstalling it.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?How about making the 2.3 release a separate plug-in?
Something like "Topaz Adjust Classic",
allowing users to have both installed at the same time?
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?I'd second that suggestion mg. It would be nice to have them side by side to see the differences.
And I don't really have time to install and potentially un-install things right now.
Marjorie, I'd be interested in seeing those before and after shots. -
Inappropriate? It is a great idea. We will do an unoffical release of V2.3 so that you can install it side-by-side with V2.4. We need to settle this issue. Side by side installation will make it easier for you to compare give us concrete feedback.
-
Inappropriate?Albert, awesome idea on the side by side ... GlassHouse ... tell me how to get you the before and after and I'll send ... or I can put on backside of my website, which might be the easiest ... i'll work on getting those out there by tonight. www.stallard-images.com/topaz ... check there later tonight for the pics.
-
Inappropriate?Albert I think that is a great compromise for now. I would like to compare the two and have not updated because of the feedback here. I also have too much invested with photographs for customers and friends who like what I have done with 2.3. I would hate to lose all that, please let us know when and how we can use 2.3 and 2.4 side by side. I have have faith in you guys because you listen to feedback so well. Thanks for a great product.
-
Inappropriate?Albert & Eric - I uninstalled 2.4 & was able to reinstall 2.3 successfully. I really like your products & have been using Topaz Vivacity almost constantly since it came out.
I don't see much use of sending before & after pics for this problem, though, since you actually replaced some of the presets with others which is at the core of the dilemma. As I understand it, you tweaked some of the underlying adjustments code which affected how the presets worked. Suddenly those of us relying on the presets had the rug pulled out from under. Generally one wants to consult with ones' existing user base before changing the way things work (imagine if you were running a network of ATMs & made comparable changes). That's why beta versions are so important. Just ask Adobe. ;)
I’m willing...
-
Inappropriate? This is what I like about this company.
Active, responsive and open to the community!
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Agreed mg
I tell ya, I'd normally be open to changes made by these guys but Ive had such great results from the ver 2.3 noise filter that I'm reluctant to give it up.
This shot for example; taken with a Sony DSC-H1 point and shoot camera and a crop of the original, had serious noise problems even after I used Neat Image, Define2 and CS3's noise reduction filters.
The Topaz Adjust 2.3 is a vast improvement over all of these.
(You can compare the results here).
Moon and Venus (Topaz noise reduction) -
Inappropriate?GlassHouse,
Wov! I was also stunned that a $39 plugin had an extra feature that rivalled dedicated noise remowal plugins, but that clearly shows how it excells!
Can't wait for the nr plugin!
And as I understood, it will be implemented into Adjust when it is ready.
Great things to come, I hope everybody has some patience as 2 emplyees are active and listening.
Lets keep in mind what kind of value we already have!
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Hey, here are the pics ... hope this helps ... I will be adding more pics as I have time tonight, so check back later ... I'm hoping to get an example of each preset.
To make me happy, I would be excited to just get the original back with old presets ... the results I was getting was worth the wait.
Here is the link ... http://www.stallard-images.com/topaz....
And thanks so much for listening to all of us and trying to help! :)
-
Marforie, thanks for showing Topaz what a great product they had. Please put a download of the original 2.3 back up so I can re download it. -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the pictures and all the feedback and comments. You can be assured that we will address this issues quickly. I will get back you to asap.
-
Inappropriate?Hi everyone,
Thanks for the discussion and suggestions. Marjorie, thanks for taking the time to make the comparison page. We'll be putting v2.3 back up for download as an option on Monday. I'll put the link here and on our Twitter feed.
If Topaz Adjust for Windows doesn't work correctly after installing the new version, try uninstalling all versions and doing a clean re-install.
Feel free to post any other questions, suggestions, or sentiments!
Thanks again,
Eric
I’m somewhat caffeinated
-
Inappropriate?I agree 100% 2.4 runs faster but has poorer effects than 2.3 with that said
will be be able to run 2.3 and 2.4 side by side on CS3 when you put the
link on for 2.3 Monday ?? if not anyway we can rename the 2.3 plug in so we can ?? Just another item on 2.3 I could run Topaz Adjust with Photo-Brush
only the photo size had to be 600x451 then came 2.4 and I was unable to run i with Photo-Brush Vivacity runs great with Photo-Brush how bout revamping the "adjust" engine....Thanks -
By the way bingee - we've made Topaz Adjust v2.4 work with Irfanview and some other additional hosts. It's quite possible that it now works with Photo-Brush as well, if you want to try. -
Inappropriate?Hi Eric
I was able, through System Restore, to go back a few days and then my V2.3 worked. So I "uninstalled it". Downloaded 2.4 and and still got the error message in PS7 that it couldn't load iltadjust2.3 dll.
I wondering if 2.4 works with ps7, if you had v 2.3 before. Personally I'd like to try it, but........ Can't. Any ideas?
Thanks
Rob
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Pleas put up the 2.3 version on Monday so I can download it. I am so upset at the 2.4 ver. I tried replacing the .tpp file and that was no help at all with 2.4. I do love the new picture window in 2.4. It allows me to see the whole picture and is really fast but I would give all that up to have Topaz Adjust work the way it used to.
I’m let down
-
Inappropriate? The older v2.3 can now be downloaded at the following links. Unfortunately right now they cannot be installed simultaneously, but we'll soon have a v2.5beta which can be simultaneously installed with v2.3.
Mac Topaz Adjust v2.3 download HERE:
http://www.topazlabs.com/src/oldversi...
Windows Topaz Adjust v2.3 download HERE:
http://www.topazlabs.com/src/oldversi...
Let me know if there's any issue with re-installation.
Best regards,
Eric -
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have 2.3 back on and it works fine. I can't wait to see what you guys do with 2.4 to enhance it. LOVE your product. -
Inappropriate?I uninstalled 2.4 and re-installed 2.3 agree 100% the effects in 2.3 ( presents) at least are much better that 2.4, Yes 2.3 is slow slow slow, also
A favorite program Photo Brush can use Adjust IF the JPG is set for 600x451
in 2.,3
Vivacity can be used with about any program that used Photo Shop Plug ins, would hope some day Adjust can do the same ..... agree and thanks to Marjorie for pushing the issue, there are alot of us "silent" lookers that hope adjust can be fixed -
I LOVE VIVACITY TOO! Great products! -
No 2.4 does not work with Photo Brush again Photo Brush works well with Vivacity..... How ever you set up Vivacity would appreciate the same for Adjust -
Inappropriate?Guess I am alone but I love the new presets..love the photo pop!!!!
-
We appreciate it Nancy :)
Yes, I have gotten many emails from people who love the new presets , but as you can see some would prefer to have the older version. We'd prefer for everyone to be happy - and next time we'll no doubt have a beta so people can chime in before the release.
Thanks for the feedback. -
Inappropriate?Im looking forward to 2.5 also, on my wish list is that 2.5 will run with
the same programs that Vivacity runs with namely Photo-Brush
and no 2.4 didnt run with many of the programs that can use Adobe
8BF files either ...... Please -
Inappropriate?I've been using Topaz 2.4 for a week or two. Yes, I found the presets a lot more subtle than 2.3. But I also found the difference between most of them has become subtle too. Maybe a bit too subtle. I was using the presets in 2.3 as a starting point and it was easy to get into the right ballbark and then go from there, using blending modes and opacity changes to tone them down and if that wasn't enough going into the additional tabs. Now, since there is not much difference between them, it means I have a lot more work to do. I appreciate the increase in speed, but I would love to have version 2.3 to run side by side with 2.4. That way I could use 2.3 on my serious work and 2.4 on my lightweight stuff.
-
Inappropriate?I've been using Adjust (demo) for only a short time, but after seeing this thread I downloaded 2.3 for a try. The presets are indeed drastically different, and if I had to pick one better than the other, I'd say 2.3 presets get much closer to my desired looks.
But the speed of the new 2.4 version makes it SO much easier to manually tweak the individual settings (which I would need to do in either version) that it's no contest for me. I will be buying 2.4 :)

-
Inappropriate? How is 2.5 coming along ?? any possible time frame we could be looking at ?
-
Inappropriate?Hi bingee,
A rough estimate for v2.5 would be about a month. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Regards,
Eric
-
Inappropriate?Hi Eric, i've just installed adjust2.5 and it seems i can't run it simultaneously with v2.3 (as you writen it would earlier)
the two versions are installed but i only see one in photoshop and its the v2.5
is there a solution ?
Thank you :o)
Martin -
Inappropriate?Hi again Eric,
While using adjust2.5, i have noticed a difference in the preview vs the final image with 'photo_pop' and using noise supression with Denoise checked on. While the preview show me no more grain at 1,404 , the resulting image is still full of it. here's the original image to try it.
Thank you and keep up the great work :o)
Martin
-
Inappropriate?Something is wrong with this one. Check the Hue setting to see if it is at 0.
-
Inappropriate?v2.5 Am I missing something, I can't find a Registration button under the About tab.
-
Inappropriate?Moses, something is wrong with this one. Could you please check if Hue is around 0.0
Martin, I will check out your picture and get back to you. -
Inappropriate?Martin, we will put out V2.3 with a new installer so make it side-by-side with main release. Give us a few more days...
-
Thank you Albert ! - Martin -
Inappropriate?Hi again !
concerning my previous msg, i've just found that it's the previewing window that gives a false rendition when not at 100% of actual size. When smaller, it evens out the grain and artefacts more than what you get when clicking OK.
Its kind of sad cause the results in the preview window is awsome (everything is smoothed out without loosing important details, but the real result after clicking OK is full of artefact.
here is the original picture full size
-
Inappropriate?Hi Albert, How are things coming for the new V2.3 installer (side by side with V2.5)?
thank you. -
Inappropriate? Are we able to use Adjust 2.3 with 2.5 yet without any problems?
-
Inappropriate? Here's the v2.3 installer that will run side-by-side with 2.5:
http://www.topazlabs.com/topazlabs/03...
Thanks,
Eric -
Should be alright now. -
Inappropriate?Small problem, presets seemed to come from the 2.5 version.. I renamed the 2.3 presets to Adjustpreset4.tpp and Adjustpreset5.tpp and renamed each preset in these with 2.3_ at the start, then copied them to the topaz ajust 2.5 preset folder.
I think the old registry key from the old 2.3 is somewhere.. so its picking up the wrong presets as i had 2.3 installed.
I can live with the fix above and might have a look see if i can find the offending registry entry :)
e,g,
<2.3_Mild_Details AUTHOR="User" Mod="1" Disp="1" SAEQ="0" SB="1.00" LK="1.00" DT="0.11" DS="19.26" LSD="0.10" LAEQS="1.00" DG="1.14" SAEQS="1.00" NM="1.00" LAEQ="0" HUE="0" DK="1.52" LB="0" NC="1.50" DSP="1.00" LHT="0.10" NT="0" SK="1.00" DESCRIPTION="Naturally enhance the details in your images." NJ="0" NK="0.95"/>
-
Inappropriate?Installed the updated 2.3 installed great however there are NO Presets when you open the file up in PS.....
-
Inappropriate?Hi bingee,
Try uninstalling, re-downloading, and re-installing. We've fixed the presets issue.
Best regards,
Eric -
Inappropriate?Eric,
By far this is my favorite filter. I too love the 2.3 classic set of presets. I have just upgraded to the 2.5 so can I install the 2.3 along side so I can use both of these or do I need to do something different? -
Inappropriate?I installed today the plugin (great ...) but the presets don't work (I see them but when I click one ... no change )
(Windows Vista and Photoshop CS2)
Bruno -
Inappropriate?IBJC: you can install the version of 2.3 that was specifically designed to operate side by side with v2.5. That version is here:
http://www.topazlabs.com/topazlabs/03...
gandalph,
You need to double click on them, or click Apply Preset. If you have been and it's still not working, try this thread:
http://getsatisfaction.com/topazlabs/... -
Inappropriate?Eric, it's IBJC (Jen) again and I have successfully installed 2.3 but I can NOT get the same results that I previously got. Maybe I had a version earlier than the 2.3. I am not gettting the smooth fluid looks that I so loved in the earlier presets. Is there a listing of settings that you may have that can help me get a smooth look vs something that has so much noise.....even though I removed a lot of it. I just can't get anything to look as good. Here are pictures to show you....I love the first one and can't get anything to match now.... The first one is what I'm looking for

This second one is a repeated attempt of getting the same look as the first and I don't care for this one at all... Any thoughts?
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I'm not sure... Judging from the images, try setting the Regions setting in the Exposure tab lower and the Radius and Threshold in the Details tab higher.
Are you using the presets or the actual sliders? It may give you more control to try the presets as a starting point and refining it via slider.
Best regards,
Eric -
Inappropriate?I can't use the presets found by default. They're listed but don't produce any effect when I double click on them. Even if I click on ok the effects don't work! Where is my mistake???
