still out of memory with adjustV2.6
I'm using v2.3 in parallel with V2.5 with memory issues. I replaced the V2.5 by V2.6 now on photoshop CS. I still have out of memory message from the 2.6 version. I have tried every possible memory setting over 1gig of ram (wich seems to be the stability limit) and nothing changes. Working below 1 gig means loosing speed on everything... what can i do ?

Inappropriate? Please re-download Adjust for Windows from our website at http://www.topazlabs.com/src/topazadj.... Uninstall the current version from your computer using Add/Remove Programs, and install the new version. Make sure that the installer folder inside is labeled "topazadjust26c_setup." This should help.

Inappropriate?Hi Eric,
do i have to uninstall V2.3 as well ? or is it completely separate?
thanks,
Martin -
Inappropriate?@Martin,
fear you would have to lower RAM - depending on your available RAM and on the images size. If you say 1GB is the amount the image needs, to get processed in RAM, it might have a size between 250 and 300MB, right? (If its smaller 1GB allocated RAM would be to much)
If I'm right, TP might need the same amount of RAM (1GB) to process it. Means you would have to lower RAM in CS to ~ 600MB (or even a bit lower since some programs might want to have some of the RAM outside CS as well) :-(

Inappropriate?Martin, how much RAM do you have on your computer and what's the dimensions of the image you're processing? It may be that you actually don't have enough memory for the size of the image. You could try Ablichter's solution and adjust the memory settings. I would suggest trying to set it at 90% and see if that works first.

Inappropriate? Thanks to both of you ! Maybe i'm doing something wrong here:
My concern is to find a way to speed up the time it takes to filter with denoise technology 'on', with vibrance preset.
It takes 1minute 30 seconds to apply the filter on a 15meg decompressed JPG. I'm convinced i would get faster results if i could use more of my memory. Do i need more RAM ? In the same way, is there a way to take advantage of both cpus i've got ?
I've got 2 gigs of RAM on an XP environment. The usual file size i'm working on is small, about 5megs jpg format when not opened(14megs decompressed). I get the error message if the memory allocated to photoshop is more than 1,2gig, and Adjust only works if i don't do any other operation prior to using it. If i do let say a 4X6 cropping operation -smaller file size resulting- and then use the filter, i get the 'not enough memory' message. I've found that i had to set a memory setting of 1gig max (56%) to avoid the problem.
What do you think ?
Thank you. -
Inappropriate?Well Martin, seems you do indeed something wrong, since this are rather small images.
Seems you have to many History States enabled - quoting Adobe:"Each history state that includes an operation that affects the entire image (for example, when you apply Gaussian blur or unsharp mask to the entire image) creates a full copy of your image at its original size."
So lower them a bit or do a Edit => Purge once in a while to free up memory after heavy editing.
But most important, adjust the RAM to the amount you really need: down at the bottom is a small menu, switch it to "efficiency" and lower RAM until it shows less then 100%, when loading your largest image, than raise it again until you reach 100% and give something on top. You have to end PS and load your image again after each adjustment. 3 times the image size should be a good start.
This should make sure, your images are processed in RAM to avoid using scratch disk and keep up speed. My guess is you need something like 300 MB if not less (15 -20 history states) - for a 20MB uncompressed JPG I need about 100MB RAM.
Just keep an eye on the efficiency bar regulary when working with other images, maybe you need a bit more or less RAM.
Check it out, it should solve your problem.
<edit> and no, with this image sizes, you won't need to buy more RAM ;-)
BTW: are you aware, that whenever you edit and save a JPG (especially when compressed) you are about to lose information?</edit> -
Inappropriate?Thank you Ablitcher. i just did what you suggested. Ram is at 20% and there is no loss of performance. History level is at 3. But it still takes 1minute30 seconds to apply that filter. Is it normal ? is there a way to speed up things ? i am always using vibrance presets with denoise technology set on at 1.0 . When i use this, its always the first operation i do right after opening the file, right after opening photoshopCS. Why is this taking so long to apply?
Intel core2 CPU 4400@ 2.00ghz
2.69ghz, 2gig ram
thanks -
Inappropriate?Denoise explains why it takes that long - its not a memory issue anymore, its a CPU utilisation issue, because with denoise this went up to to 98% (triple core, 2,31 Ghz) - vibrance takes me 2 minutes with and 10 seconds without denoise... 5MB JPG
Fear there is not much to do about it, except using another noise filter, like NoiseNija which takes about 7 seconds on the same image and is almost as good as denoise. -
Inappropriate?Martin, the problem probably has to do with the noise reduction as Ablichter said. If you turn off the "best quality" noise reduction or turn it off completely, it will go much faster.
-
Inappropriate?Again, thank you Eric and Ablichter !
Eric, you are right it is really faster but not as good in the result. Is it only a matter of CPU power or can i do something to speed things up ?
I wish you all a Merry Chistmas ! Your team is doing a great job ! Please be sure that speed set aside, i am more than satisfied with your products.
I’m confident
