Topaz adjust keeps crashing Photoshop CS3
Downloaded the demo version 2.2 and it keeps crashing Photoshop CS3 extended. I'm running Windows XP media center SP 2.
I really like the plugin and hope a stable version is forthcoming.

Inappropriate?Hi,
Try downloading the latest version (just updated) from our website. It should then work.
Thanks!
-
Inappropriate?Eric, just downloaded 2.3, upgraded from 2.2, if I resize my image, it immediately STILL crashes topaz adjust & CS3. If this product was just reliable, I would purchase it. I do like the results it does only with my images resized. It just can't handle the full size of my images.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Chris,
What is the size of your full image? At what zoom it crashed? Try to give us as much details as possible. Please help us reproduce the problem and I am sure we can fix it. (We have tried all sort of ways trying to crash it before this new release obviously we did not covered your case). -
Inappropriate? The new release seems to have worked for me. No more crashes even with big files. Speed has increased in preview also. Thanks.
-
Inappropriate?21 MP, 1ds mk III, immediately attempt to select the - sign, crash...
-
Inappropriate? We are trying to reproduce the problem. What is the exact width and height in terms of pixel? 8 bit or 16 bit?
What happen if you first click the "100%" button and than "Fit" button? -
Inappropriate?5616x3714, 16bit Tiff
There is no 100% button or fit button that I could see in this application -
Inappropriate?Hi Chris,
You seems to still have pre V2.3 version. Try to download
http://www.topazlabs.com/src/topazadj...
and reinstall it.
-
Inappropriate?I have a mac, you don't have 2.3 for intel mac yet.
-
Mac update is out, let me know if it doesn't solve the problem. -
Inappropriate? We're working on updating the Mac version as I type. Expect it out in a week !
Thanks,
Eric
-
Inappropriate?I am crashing as well.Just downloaded your program and used on a Mac G5. Image is a 28.8 Jpeg from Canon 40D processed in Lightroom 2.
It shows up as 100% and when I try and reduce it,I crash. Or,when I try and do anything.I crash out of PS3.
Linda -
Linda:
I'm actually surprised that it installed or ran at all. Topaz Adjust isn't compatible with Mac G5 - only Intel Macs with CS3. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Best,
Eric -
Inappropriate? My computer that this installed on is an Intel Mac(2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and no it does not work. Constant crashes and the presets didn't even manage to get installed and an error comes up with that as well...Over 10 crashes reported to Apple/Adobe when the screen popped up.
Linda -
Inappropriate?Hi Linda,
Try waiting for the new release of Adjust for Mac, which will come very soon. It should solve most of the stability problems. As for the presets, see if this is it:

Inappropriate?Mac update is out. Direct link: http://www.topazlabs.com/src/topazadj...
Just install and enter your old license key. Fixes update speed problems and some bugs.
Thanks!
Eric -
Inappropriate?I updated to the new MAC version and the presets are there but it keep crashing when I try and enlarge the image either with the + or just clicking the 100%
-
Inappropriate?Hmm, that's strange. Try going into Photoshop --> Preferences --> Performance and lowering the amount of memory Photoshop can use. Restart Photoshop and try again to see if it helps any.
-
Eric, I just finished trying everything you said to do and I get the same results. CRASH -
Ed; did you have Mac or Windows version? Also make sure that you've installed 2.3 (check the About page in the plug-in to make sure).
Also, how much memory do you have on your computer? -
Eric,
I just downloaded the latest off your website and it said 2.3 however when I checked what loaded to my computer it was 2.2. How do I get 2.3 to download to my MacBook pro? -
Run the installer that you just downloaded and enter the same key that you had before. You won't need to uninstall or remove the previous version if you're on a Mac - just run the new installer and follow the instructions.
After that, restart Photoshop and it should be the new version and a lot more stable. -
Hello Eric, I purchased this product in 28 Aug and have the same problem about half the time when I attempt to save. Mac Intel, dual core, 10gb RAM, latest version of software. tkx Dennis -
Hi popjond,
28 Aug was actually 1 day before the faster and more stable v2.3 came out for Mac. Download it here: http://www.topazlabs.com/src/topazadj...
Just install it over the previous Mac version. You will need the license key that you purchased. Let me know if you still experience problems with the newer version.
Thanks!

Inappropriate?Hello,
I also have a problem running Topaz Adjust on CS3, when I start the filter it just hangs, I do not get to the filter dialog. I tried also on Irfanview with same problem. I am running on Windows XP with the latest Topaz version and I am using a really small image to test with so I think the problem is elsewhere. Any hints or ideas I can test? Thanks for your help in advance. -
Inappropriate?Hi juanjoem,
Does it have any sort of error message?
Try going to Edit->Preferences->Performance/Memory and reducing the maximum RAM that Photoshop can use. That should help...
Best regards,
Eric
-
Inappropriate?I already tried that, an also using a small image (100x100 pixels) but no luck. No errors at all, it just hangs while loading the plugin. I can use PS and other plugins I have installed normally but not Topaz Adjust. I will see if I can try in a different machine later.
-
Inappropriate?Try the new release V2.6. It should be more stable and we finally fixed the memory problem:
http://www.topazlabs.com/src/topazadj...
No need to mess with Photoshop RAM setting anymore. -
Inappropriate?I use a mac, uploaded the new version and my images keep on crashing my photoshop. I am using the filter, then erasing back in the parts of the image that I do not want the filter on. Then it will either crash while I work or it will crash when I try to save. I have not been succesful in using this product since I bought it. It is frustrating, I really like the way it looks, but it is completely unusable for me. help please!
-
Inappropriate?Hi Shellie,
Is it crashing when you're using the filter, or when you're erasing afterward in Photoshop? Because we can probably help solve the problem if it's crashing when you try to apply the filter, but if it's crashing outside of the filter it's probably not Topaz Adjust's problem.
Nevertheless if you send an email to support[at]topazlabs.com I can send you a file that may help with the crashes. Let me know!
Eric -
Inappropriate?Hi Eric, Thanks for answering. It is crashing after I apply the filter, when I am doing additional work on the image. It is absolutely something that topaz is doing to the image. My photoshop never crashes otherwise. I doubt topaz expects people to use the filter on the image and then be done with it, I'm sure you know how much ps work goes into people's images! ;-). It is crashing sometimes while I am working, sometimes when I try to save. I have never successfully worked on, and then saved an image after using topaz. I should mention, I am not an amateur, I am a professional photographer, and have been using photoshop for years. I really want to be able to use this cool filter I bought from you guys, I hope you can help me. I am using a mac book pro, with an external hard drive plugged in (although it crashes whether or not the hard drive is plugged in). Is it the Mac? Please help! :-)
-
Hi!
I have an iMac with the exact same problem. I'm no amature either, I'm actually a programmer in image processing & computer version & a professional photographer for a few years now!
I love your filter but I can't use it!
Any ideas? -
I have the exact same thing happening. -
Hi Constance,
Please install the latest version of the software and see if it works better. You can get the upgrade here: http://www.topazlabs.com/src/mirrors....
Best regards,
Eric -
Inappropriate? As a follow up, when I use the OS's Saving dialog's photoshop doesn't crash and I can save my files fine.
I did several tests, it's only when Topaz Adjust runs, do you edit anything to the photo's EXIF or do you have a different compression format?
I'm almost sure it's the file format that makes the photoshop crashes! Something is not matching Photoshop's.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Moe and Shellie,
I'm not sure what this problem is! I'll see if Albert has any suggestions here. Topaz Adjust doesn't do anything to modify the photo's EXIF. All it should do is modify the pixels like a regular Photoshop filter such as Gaussian Blur.
We do use Intel multiprocessor support that had caused some problems in the past, though. Disabling it might help. Try the solution here:
http://getsatisfaction.com/topazlabs/...
Best,
Eric -
Inappropriate? We're also working on Topaz Adjust v3 right now which will fix this problem. Currently only the Windows beta is out, but the Mac version is coming soon.
-
Inappropriate?I have this question as well. However, I am running the beta version of Windows 7. I have tried upgrading to the latest version on the topaz website, uninstalling the older version and Photoshop CS3 keeps crashing. I have lowered the amount of RAM photoshop uses in performance and it crashes. I have also resized the resolution size and it still crashes. The odd thing about all this is, I have my hard drive partitioned where one partition is Windows XP and the other is Windows 7, and when I load Photoshop off the Windows XP partition and try using Topaz it works fine, but when I decided to try install CS3 on the 7 partition and using Topaz it crashes. Any suggestions? I'm going nuts. Thanks.
-
Inappropriate?Try the newest Topaz Adjust V3.0 beta. It should work with Win 7:

Inappropriate?Hi!
When is the version 3 coming out for Mac? -
Inappropriate?Hi Moe,
Thanks for the message! Topaz Adjust v3 will be here by the end of March.
Best,
Eric
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?I've been using v3 for a couple of days now and it has been working flawlessly until tonight. I give this thing a pretty good workout. I've been processing the image twice with Topaz, once for the subject and once for the background with a lot of noise reduction in between. After the second Topaz adjustment CS3 apologizes for the inconvenience and crashes. When I try this with the older v2.? (whatever the latest was) I don't have this problem. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Doug -
Inappropriate?Thanks Grampa Doug,
Does it consistently crash when you do the same procedure, or was it that one time? This will help us narrow down the source of the problem.
Thanks,
Eric -
Inappropriate?Eric,
It doesn't happen 100% of the time, maybe 75%, but only when I make multiple Topaz adjustments. I create a Topaz adjustment layer, open topaz, make my adjustment, click OK and return to the PS window, then create another layer and repeat with a different Topaz adjustment. When I click OK on the second time around..........PS crash.
I am using Windows XP SP2, 4GB Ram.
Thanks,
Doug -
Inappropriate?Thanks Doug,
We're investigating the problem, I'll let you know when we find out what the deal is.
Best regards,
Eric -
Inappropriate?Eric,
Please keep trying, with this one I get a lot of "UNKNOW ERROR" after I click OK. The new interface is so much better, it's a shame it's so difficult to apply.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hi Doug,
Is the version that you're using 3.0.9 or 3.1? If it's not 3.1, please try re-downloading and re-installing because that may solve the problem.
Dl links here: http://www.topazlabs.com/src/mirrors....
Again, sorry for the inconvenience! Please let me know how it turns out.
Best regards,
Eric

Inappropriate?Anyone still have problem of Topaz Adjust crashes, please try the new update V3.1.1.
We have been trying to nail this problem for a long time. Since we have trouble to reproduce it reliably here, we are sort of in trial and error mode.
Here is an update, V3.1.1, in which we put in a lot of msgs and some changes that we thought should help the crash. Since we cannot really test it, we are not sure. If it is not too much trouble, please give it a try:
1. un-install you current V3.x (don’t unstall V2.6)
2. download http://www.topazlabs.com/src/topazadj...
3. run the installer to install this version.
4. re-start Photoshop to use it. If it has problem, it may give out more error code. Please email/post the error code here.
Thank you very much. -
Inappropriate?Sorry, the editor cut it out. Here is the one:
http://www.topazlabs.com/src/topazadj... -
Inappropriate?Guys, This is going from bad to worse. I installed your 3.1.1 and after my third image I got this: procEngine: error code: -1000. I'm sure you can feel my pain, that after creating a masterpiece, to watch it vanish right in front of you.............. (kinda like kids <g>)
Does it make any difference that these are huge files. Images are generally between 75 and 230 MB. I use Topaz to touch up HDR files.</g>
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Sorry. It seems our ability to improve memory management can never catch up with the size of image...
But we are trying. Here is an update, V3.1.2, with yet another improvement on memory management.
http://www.topazlabs.com/src/topazadj...
Please let me know if it is better. Again, you need to un-install V3.x, but not V2.x before installing this one. -
Inappropriate? Thanks Albert, I appreciate your efforts as I do like this little plug-in!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Guys,
I think you may have taken too much from Photoshop, now PS is crashing before I get to Topaz. -
Inappropriate? An update: Things are settling down now. Only one PS crash in the last couple of days. I use this plug-in a lot.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Thanks for letting us know.
I am not sure if you aware of it. the newest version is V3.2.1, which has proven to be very stable now. If you are not using it, please upgrade.
