Don't Leave Mom Out!
I'd like it to be easy to add a second parent to your account. It was so cool when signing up to signify myself as "Dad," but I'd like to be able to have a button to "add Mom" to the account or "add Grandparent," etc. I THINK this is done by inviting a friend, but I'm not sure how that works--would they have access to the entire account dashboard? If nothing else, maybe this could be clarified for new users.
I want to say, this is a TERRIFIC service. I've had WordPress blogs and all sorts of fancy ways of creating up-to-date pages for my kids, but this is by far the nicest, most efficient and safe. I appreciate your hard work.

Inappropriate? Thanks; we appreciate the kind words :)
As for account types...right now, when you invite people to the site they can sign up with a 'kid account' (if they want to create pages for their own kids) or with a 'grownup account' (if they don't want to create their own pages)...any users who accept your invitation as a grownup can then optionally be designated as a 'contributor' (by going to your 'Friends' page) -- a contributor has the ability to contribute photos & videos to your kids profile.
(we'll continue looking for ways to communicate this best to new users; anything in particular you think would have helped introduce this stuff?)
We do not currently have the ability to add other 'administrators' to your account -- where they would have access to the entire dashboard and all administrative settings (e.g. sending invites, setting notifications, etc.), but we definitely see the need for it, and are exploring a few different options to do this in the easiest way possible...
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?OK, that makes sense. Yes, I would really only want my wife to have full administrative access so she can also input favorites, milestones, weights, etc, etc. I want her to have access to everything I do. For now I'll probably just have her log in as me, but that would be a very nice option in the future, to be able to give another administrative privileges.
As far as communication about adding another family member goes, I just think it needs to have a clear way, maybe during setup, to do this. It could be part of your 100% filling-out of the profile. One step should be "Add your spouse as an administrator or contributor" (whichever one prefers).
What I ran into was when I finished, I wanted to add my wife and I thought, ok, I can send her the email, but then I imagine when she contributes something, it will be like a friend doing it and not Mom. And if she IS designated as Mom contributing something, then how come I'm not designated as Dad doing something when I contribute?
I'm not sure if that makes sense, but overall, I just found myself wanting to know how I can make sure both my wife and I can add photos, videos, journal entries, time-line info, milestones, etc. Because if we both have access to do this, it will make each of our kids' sites MUCH more content-rich and memorable.
I’m thankful, too.

Inappropriate?Boy, unbelievable interface on TotSpot. I am extremely impressed, and I signed up. My son has been wanting to create his own Web site. He's seven, so he may be a little older than your target audience, but it seems to have everything he needs for his own social networking site. So, we're in.
Like JuryDuty, I'd love to have the ability for both mom and dad to have admin access. In our case, mom and dad are co-parents who live down the road from each other, and I just know we'll both want to contribute and grow our son's TotSpot site. I'm betting we're not a total edge case these days! So, please consider making this possible.
I’m already hooked on TotSpot

Inappropriate?I agree that if Mom and Dad both have separate accounts, they should both be able to login as themselves, and have full access to the child's page. The workaround for now seems to just log in as the child name - but it's not the most intuitive.
-
Inappropriate? As Michael noted, this is definitely something we need to address (Eric - you are 100% not an edge case). As of now, the workaround is to login with the child's username but we need a better solution. Do you guys think this makes sense to put in the setup process? (as JuryDuty suggests) - our hunch is both setup and Account Settings - idea is that you'll probably only use this once.
-
Adam, I am a little shocked that you guys didn't turn this up in user research before you launched the site? This was the first feature I looked for when I signed up tonight. I also thought that was a sparkline you had on the page, but it appears to just be an icon that looks like a sparkline. But back to the topic...
Yes, both places and I would go out of my way to explain it. I wouldn't classify it as "One time use" like a setup wizard but more of an infrequent use. The whole divorce and custody thing gets tricky with the multiple admin thing though. Tough feature to figure out, but a fun challenge! -
werker - This definitely did come up in our user research but we thought the workaround - login as the child's username (as Nathan pointed out) was sufficient. It is definitely not and so tackling this is certainly a high priority. As you noted - not so simple to figure out exactly, but we'll find a way. -
I agree, I was trying to find the place where my wife could signup to update the kids info and nada. This should be your #1 priority to add, otherwise I won't be able to use this site much. Please add it! -
