How do we raise awareness of our local transit system?

Inappropriate?I really like the idea of painting bright colored lines on the street or the sidewalk to mark out the route!
I’m optimistic

Inappropriate? It's not just a bus: it's part of a system.
Every bus that goes by could say on the side and back: "Did you miss me? I come again in: 15 minutes."
In phase 1, the "15" would probably be hardcoded to the official route frequency.
When the 21st century arrives, the "15 minutes" could be updated live by nextbus.
Are there any cities that do this today? I feel like so many bright ideas at TransitCamp are (potential) reinventions of wheels. -
Inappropriate? On every interstate, signs say "San Francisco 40 miles". The electronic ones say "San Francisco 40 minutes".
In Philadelphia, the middle of every block has a signpost, and every signpost has a map showing "you are here".
See http://www.upenn.edu/almanac/v48/n08/...
I wish the signs at bus stops showed
a) a map, with the route highlighted
b) major destinations, each one N minutes away
So:
Welcome to Route 22.
You are HERE.
Palo Alto University Ave: 20m
Stanford Shopping Center: 15m
Downtown Mountain View: 10m -
Inappropriate?I really liked the idea of having NextBus or NextBus style displays in public places like offices, but also in malls, shopping centers, schools, government buildings.
I’m enthusiastic

Inappropriate?Yes, I like the idea of making signage more person centric, instead of system centric. Showing times away is a very human scale.
I’m thankful for good ideas

Inappropriate? To some extent, the overhead electric cables in San Francisco already do this if you know to look!
(Incidentally, I got a ride in a car the other day from somebody who relied on following a specific overhead line to find their way).
I’m intrigued
