Trazzler Contest "Wishlist" Rules Unclear
I'm a semifinalist in the current writing contest, and I have a bit of a bone to pick. The contest rules specified that the next stage required me to get the word out and get my trip "wishlisted." My trip was marked "semifinalist" over the weekend; I immediately started inviting Facebook friends and sending emails. Then, last night, I got the official announcement that I'd made the semifinals, and was informed that wishlisting only counted from that moment forward. Now, most of the people I recruited to the site, who wishlisted me, don't count. This was not made clear in the rules that I read. This seems unfair. And why would Trazzler identify me as a semifinalists well before that official announcement if I wasn't supposed to act on it? I've probably lost all chance to make it to the next round due to this misunderstanding, as many of my friends wishlisted before 8PM Monday. Disappointing.

We're sorry that this happened, but our contest page has always had the rules and dates of the different rounds spelled out very clearly.

----------------------------------------------------------------

* Contest submission start date: Wednesday, July 22, 2009, 12 noon EDT
* Contest submission end date: Monday, August 17, 2009, 11:59 am EDT
* Judging period begins: Monday, August 17, 2009, 12 noon EDT

Round Two: Wishlisting of Semifinalist Trips
* Starts: Monday, August 31, 2009, 8:00 pm EDT
* Ends: Monday, September 14, 2009, 7:59 pm EDT
If your trip page has the text “Trazzler #NYCGO Contest Semifinalist” immediately following the trip description—on or before Monday, August 31, 2009—then you are a semifinalist and can participate in Round Two. The 10 trips that are wishlisted the most between Monday, August 31, 2009 (8:00 pm EDT) and Monday, September 14, 2009 (7:59 pm EDT) will pass to Round Three. All entries accepted into Round Two will appear, ranked by the number of "wishlistings" on the semifinals page starting Monday, August 31, 8:00 pm EDT. Strategies for wishlisting. The remaining Round Two trips will still be eligible for the four Editor's Choice Awards.
----------------------------------------------------------------
We also included this information in the email that we sent to all contestants at the end of the Round One submission period on August 20:
----------------------------------------------------------------
The final list of all verified semifinalists will be posted on August 31, 2009 at 8:00 pm EDT on this page: http://www.trazzler.com/contests/nyc/...
IMPORTANT NOTE: The period for wishlisting trips will be from August 31, 2009, 8:00 pm EDT to September 14, 2009, 7:59 pm EDT. Any wishlisting prior to the start date will not count toward your Round Two ranking.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone who wishlisted your trip prior to the beginning of Round Two can delete the trip from his/her wishlist and wishlist the trip again. The wishlisting round has just begun so there is plenty of time.

Megan, I appreciate the prompt reply. My response to yours is only that there is a lot written on your site about the rules of the contest, and they do not spell this out nearly so clearly. This particularly is misleading:
If your trip page has the text “Trazzler #NYCGO Contest Semifinalist” immediately following the trip description—on or before Monday, August 31, 2009—then you are a semifinalist and can participate in Round Two.
No indication of waiting for anything before starting round two. I wish I had seen the line in the email you point out, but I was focused on reading the contest rules on your site, where I don't believe this important fact was ever clarified. -
Inappropriate?Yeah, it sucks because I started promoting this as soon as I found out and most of the people who voted for me I don't even know. Asking them to delete my trip from their wishlist and redoing it is nearly impossible. "Red tape shackles my dreams." You can quote me on that.

Inappropriate?Ack. Bryan--we're sorry about that, but don't give up. If you were able to get total strangers to vote once, you may just have the mojo to make it to the top ten.
Craig--

The Round Two start and end dates appear directly above the text that you quote. We're not sure how we could have made that more clear...
Round Two: Wishlisting of Semifinalist Trips
* Starts: Monday, August 31, 2009, 8:00 pm EDT
* Ends: Monday, September 14, 2009, 7:59 pm EDT
To both of you--we are very sorry that you didn't read the full page of instructions or the email that we sent out after we received your entry. We carefully thought out and defined how each round would work. We had to set it up this way to ensure that all of the Round Two trips would have the same amount of time allotted for voting. -
Inappropriate?I always thought the start dates were stated quite clearly in the rules. I informed all of my friends not to wishlist me until the start date.
I don't think Trazzler is at fault. As with any contest, it is important to read the rules carefully. -
I have to agree, I don't think anyone should be blaming Trazzler - the start dates were very clear.
